Apologies cant see a thread about this.
Staff at Bristol Brunel academy blocked a visit by Damien Egan, their local MP because he is Jewish. Clear case of antisemitism. AIBU to thinking that headteacher and those driving this decision should be sacked and reported to the Teacher Regulation Agency?
(Apologies thread title isnt correct, but i can't edit it)

I don’t think he posed any threat and don’t think he should have been banned. I don’t care about his stance on Israel.

But I don’t consider that it’s racist to bar somebody from speaking at a school because of safety concerns prompted by their position on a topic, be it Israel or “BLM” (🙄) .

So what was the reason for cancelling him? What else are we left with if he posed no threat? The school caved in to obnoxious fascist bullies. Fascists who don't like Jewish MPs speaking about positive stuff which benefits school children. If he were not Jewish, the teachers would have no problem. Mr Egan also has an Israeli boyfriend. What a fantastic example to set to children in being intolerant.

There are far more non Jewish people in Israel than Jewish people in Lebanon, Iraq, Egypt, Libya… I could keep going. 850,000 people displaced from Arab countries, obviously many more from
Europe. Etc etc etc. Not to say two wrongs don’t make a right but why is Israel held to a higher standard than the 22 Arab nations?

Obviously not every Jewish person is a Zionist but I am. Not because I think it’s perfect, but because I am scared that if I don’t have that in my back pocket I’ll one day be left with nowhere to go and no one who wants me. Just like millions before me.

Me too. I'm old now but I am very worried for the future of my half Jewish grandchildren. And also how to explain why some people hate Jews so very much.

So let me get this straight.

You say the head made the right decision because the pupils would have been endangered by a planned protest.

The protest was planned by Michaela Wilde, an employee of the trust.

So an employee of the school trust knowingly endangered its pupils.

So this is gross negligence and she must be fired right???

You seem to think that I would disagree with your post.
But I don't anyone that works in education and organises what amounts to something that will put children in danger (both mentally and physiocally) should be removed from their job.

In education the safety of the children should always come first

Entirely depends on what their manifesto is. If it refers to anything trying to dismantle/destroy Israel (I.e. River to the Sea) then no it most certainly is not OK.

But their support is tantamount to this while Hamas remain in power in Gaza. Why else get elected in a platform that has fxxx all to do with Britain.

Just wanted to add a quick comment just to you. Please believe that there's loads of us out here who support you unfailingly. Our UK Jewish community has such a rich history and has been part of us for so long that it grieves me deeply that any of you are being made to feel unwanted and unsafe. I have watched the escalation in anti semitism in recent times with growing horror and wish there was something that I could do about it. I send my love to you and my hopes that things will improve and that you can feel more supported, as you deserve.

Thank you @Andouillette

So it's mob rule from now on then?
So we live in an anarcho state run by thugs?

The school has a duty of care to the children.
That should always come first.

And for your talks of mobs, there always tends to be two of them, not caring about who gets caught up in the middle.

The Jewish MP is not a mob on the other side of this.

He’s just someone who wants to talk about their role to students.

I didn't say that he was a mob.
But there are plenty on here that don't seem to care that children are being put in the middle of this.

nomas · 14/01/2026 09:15

Can you quote what I’ve said about Egan? Because I have no idea what you and your cheerleaders are on about.

That's blatantly obvious from your attempts to make this an anti Israel thread. As pp have posted already go back to CITME, that cesspit of anti Zionism/antiSemitism.
Just a reminder: this thread is about a Jewish MP who was cancelled by a local school.

MaturingCheeseball · 14/01/2026 10:49

The authorities should come down hard on this teacher. The man is an elected MP for a Bristol constituency. No-platforming him - when his visit was to talk on uncontroversial matters to the pupils - is a disgrace.

Does this teacher have a personal veto over visitors she doesn’t like? Why is she ruling the roost?

If my child were at that school I’d be furious. If we were Jewish I’d be very afraid.

In this case there isn’t two of them, a mob on either side, which you put in your pp.

I think it is bad children are caught up in this. But not due to the MP, but the other adults reacting to him.

There is a clear mob mentality on here. And they are clearly ingoring the children in the middle of this. Several posters including the OP have made it clear that they think that the visit/talk should have gone ahead. Even saying that the head could call the police.

I think the point is there was no reason for it not to go ahead, until a useful idiot decided to manufacture one and therefore endangering students. The students would have been perfectly safe if it weren't for this one person who objected to a Jewish MP attending due to her inaccurate and anti-Semitic assumptions about him.

That prize goes to the adults celebrating the ‘win’ against a Jewish MP. Their dc won’t hear about an MP’s role or democracy from someone representing voters. They’ve created a hostile environment where he can’t turn up.

Humdingerydoo · 14/01/2026 11:11

Believe me, as someone with children at a Jewish school, I understand the need to protect children at all costs. In our case it is at literal costs for security guards at schools etc as well as figurative ones. The kids have to cover up their Jewishness when on school trips by covering their kippot with hats and tucking their tzitzit into their pockets, and the ratios of adult to child is insane in order to take the kids to a local museum, just to protect the primary aged children from hate. I'm talking 1 adult per 3 children. So we do understand the importance of protecting children! We just don't think the children at the school in Bristol needed protecting until a useful idiot created an issue out of absolutely nothing.

Livelovebehappy · 14/01/2026 11:11

The thing is you can still be pro palestine and agree that the banning of his visit is a stupid decision. He is visiting in his capacity of an MP. Hes not going to be brainwashing anyone by talking about his stance on the Israel and Gaza situation. So why does it matter which side he sits? I work with Muslims who are clearly pro Palestine. I'm not. Would that be enough for them to ask for me to be removed? The parents and teachers are likely to have other parents and teachers amongst them who are pro Israel. Are they next to be targeted? Demands for children of jews to be removed from the school? As a country the UK really need to put a stop to this mentality creeping in that people should be cancelled because of their differing opinions. This is what.happens in the Middle East and ironically is currently something many Iranians are protesting.about, yet we have others who live here who are trying to introduce a dictatorship.

Omeom · 14/01/2026 11:13

Wilde should be the one who should be barred from access to the school and kids, totally inappropriate, hateful, along with anyone else who thought this was a good idea.

I agree.

But unfortunately the school/head has to act on that basis.

Yes, totally not propagandist or hysterical at ALL. Definitely 100% objective, fair and truthful.

No doubt those at the Canary and their foolish acolytes here view themselves as highly righteous however.
