Apologies cant see a thread about this.
Staff at Bristol Brunel academy blocked a visit by Damien Egan, their local MP because he is Jewish. Clear case of antisemitism. AIBU to thinking that headteacher and those driving this decision should be sacked and reported to the Teacher Regulation Agency?
(Apologies thread title isnt correct, but i can't edit it)

Israeli soldier describes arbitrary killing of civilians in Gaza

https://news.sky.com/story/israeli-soldier-describes-arbitrary-killing-of-civilians-in-gaza-13393422

This thread is about the cancellation of Damien Egan's talk at a British school about democracy and his career as an MP. CITME is that way 👉

RestartingForNY · 14/01/2026 08:36

For those who are saying his visit was cancelled due to his "political views" are you kidding me - people walk in and out of a school all of the time and a huge amount of them will be supportive of Israel but are not banned. This event had nothing to do with Israel. The people threatening actions targeted him because he was Jewish, he had a public profile and supported Israel.

I am so sick of people trying to pretend antisemitism doesn't exist and its just about disagreeing with someone else's political views. If a school stopped a black person from attending a random school event because they had publicly supported "black lives matter" would anyone agree when they claimed it wasn't racism, it was just a concern with their political viewpoint? Of course not - it would quite rightly be seen as blatant racism.

Why not say that to the people defending Israel as well?

Who is defending Israel on here? I feel like we're just constantly trying to point out that the MP in question doesn't even defend Israel, that he just believes in a two state solution. But that seems to be too much for some people.

Why not stop plopping onto threads about antisemitism with hyperbolic accusations about Israel that have nothing to do with the thread topic and then people wouldn't need to respond with any defensive or explanatory posts?

BlakeCarrington · 14/01/2026 08:44

dairydebris · 13/01/2026 12:57

Exactly.

People should be aware of the long history of antisemitism and that there has always been a convenient reason why they need to be treated this way.

This. The antisemitism being tolerated in UK society and displayed by some posters in this thread is truly nauseating.

Israeli soldier describes arbitrary killing of civilians in Gaza

https://news.sky.com/story/israeli-soldier-describes-arbitrary-killing-of-civilians-in-gaza-13393422

Ok? Is the takeaway here that war is brutal and terrible? Yes. Agreed. It's terrible to live in the kind of fear people (on every side) have lived with in that region for generations. It's brutal to kill people. And it's awful that this entire war has been turned into a massive propaganda machine for every other country in the world. Yes, terrible.

What this has to do with a British MP who may or may not have defended the COUNTRY of Israel is a bit beyond me. The only thing these teachers and union (who surely has better things to do given the state of education right now!) has said is that they don't like him because he has an Israeli husband and hasn't called for the destruction of another country. And obviously because he's Jewish but we aren't meant to notice that. And that our police force is incapable or unwilling to protect him carrying out his duties he was elected to do.

Then you won't have any problems pointing out exactly where she defended Israel? Because I can't see it. Unless you think her pointing out that Israel is full of different people, some good and some bad, is her defending Israel and is also somehow inaccurate?

The country of Israel has sanctioned IDF to kill
Palestinians indiscriminately.

IDF doesn’t operate in a vacuum.

So all Israelis in Israel or anywhere else in the world are responsible for this? I'm very sorry to tell you that your own country has a pretty interesting history as well. As does Christianity if you'd thinking religion as opposed to nationality. There's horrible things happening all over the world at every moment of every day. All I'm saying is that Israel isn't unique - it's no better or worse than any other country. It is, however, significantly better than Hamas.

And back to the point - this actual person - this MP who was elected by this area to represent them - has never ever stood up and said 'I renounce my loyalty to the British throne and will fight for the IDF against British people forever'. He's not a terrorist, he's not someone with confused loyalties or a warmonger or anything... he is a Jewish man with a Jewish-Israeli husband who is a member of an organisation calling for the ousting of Netanyahu and a two-state peaceful solution. The fact that even this isn't 'good enough' for this cesspool of a union is ridiculous and the fact that the police force - who I help pay for - isn't capable of ensuring his safety is horrifying.

I know from previous threads that criticising Israel is your happy place, but this isn't the thread for it.

Please provide any kind of proof that Damien Egan MP is a danger to school children, as well as proof that he is in any way anti-Palestinian.

The only reason people think he's anti-Palestinian is because he's Jewish. It's not based on facts, it's based on anti-Semitism. If he wasn't Jewish it wouldn't even have occurred to anyone to check his voting records before his scheduled visit. This is what makes the whole thing stink of antisemitism.

And this Jewish MP is not responsible for the IDF. Once again, what is a protest against a Jewish man speaking about his job (not Israel or Gaza) in a British school intended to achieve exactly please? Be specific.

Individual Jewish people around the world are no more responsible for the actions of a given Israeli government than you are for Keir Starmer or for every action taken by members of the British army everywhere in the world.

Stop being so bloody racist. You are a great example of the obsessive normalisation of anti-semitism going on in the UK at the moment. There is no excuse for it whatsoever. Shame on you.

It's not because he's Jewish, it's because he's pro-Israel. He's part of Friends Of Israel at Westminster and visited Israel to show support for their government, apparently.

I don't agree at all with banning him, but it's not true to claim it's antisemitism. Being pro Netanyahu is nothing to do with the Jewish community world wide.

My own MP is Jewish and has been going to Israel and Gaza for decades as part of a peace delegation to support both communities.

I am pro Israel
I think they have the right to protect themselves after the scum hamas attack of oct 7
I am amazed that so called liberals think Israel should allow attacks on it's people and not respond Israel Israel an kill ever Jew on the planet
Is that ok with you?
What did you think of the Palestinians cheering and celebrating in the streets after Oct 7?
Was that ok with you?

No, you utter clot. The government of Israel has done that. Astonishingly an actual country cannot sanction anything because it is (and I will keep this simple for you) a large collection of geology, cities, buildings, infrastructure etc. It also contains millions of people of wildly differing opinions, many of whom will be distinctly troubled by the government's actions. In assuming that 'Israel' has done something you are showing your revolting prejudice. Please have a little think about that.

If you read that poster’s post, she is saying that IDF is distinct from Israel the country, so Israel isn’t responsible.

Call it the government, call it the country, whichever way, the IDF kills indiscriminately, like Hamas.

Eh?

What’s that got to do with Damian Egan MP?

What has HE done that you find so objectionable and that justifies his freedoms being curtailed?

You’ve been asked this several times now, but have chosen not to answer.

Please answer now, because if you do not do so - if you cannot justify the way he’s been treated and why you think that’s a-ok - it just confirms you to be a racist.

Why not wait for the facts first? It might not be to do with his religion and more about his lobbying.

Priti Patel lost her job as Intl Dev Secretary for her meetings in Israel and she is not Jewish.

It’s in the Guardian. The HT will move it and make it safer.

It’s not due to views. Well his views. The views of protestors mean it needs to be planned so he and others are safe.

You came onto this thread about Damian Egan MP’s visit to school being cancelled because teachers and others threatened to protest about his presence and intimidate him and you wrote this, in justification of that cancellation, protest and intimidation:

nomas
He is vice-Chairman for Labour Friends of Israel that lobbies for Israel.
If the university had allowed a lobbyist for Hamas people would be up in arms.

So once again - why is it that you think him being Vice-Chairman of the Labour Friends of Israel justifies this?

So you think "ban an MP from constituency school first, find facts after" is the right approach?

Also, not every Jew lobbies for Israel 🤦🏻‍♀️ That's just anti-Semitism shining through
