Apologies cant see a thread about this.
Staff at Bristol Brunel academy blocked a visit by Damien Egan, their local MP because he is Jewish. Clear case of antisemitism. AIBU to thinking that headteacher and those driving this decision should be sacked and reported to the Teacher Regulation Agency?
(Apologies thread title isnt correct, but i can't edit it)

Crikey I’m not pretending anything, I’m just a fairly bog standard person who can see that this guy is lobbying to provide UK weapons to the Israeli government. I don’t believe in eradicating the Israeli state, and I don’t believe in supporting an apartheid system in Palestine. Unfortunately the Israeli government are now an ethno-nationalist apartheid government, a long way from 67 borders.

im also not against him visiting the school, however i do agree with the union protesting about his actions. Personally I think a statement alone would have been reasonable.

Edited

Would you be able to provide any kind of evidence of him actively lobbying for weapons to be sent to Israel?

Unless you can provide any kind of proof to indicate otherwise, I think it's safe to assume that he isn't a fan of the current Israeli government seeing as he's actively for a two state solution. So maybe let's stop pretending he's some kind of monster who shouldn't be allowed to visit a school in his constituency.

Simple is certainly the word

Simple minds that cannot distinguish between criticism of a state with hatred of a people

That'll be you then. We can all see it, don't worry.

What's your excuse?

I'm white and don't like the St Georges flags either. They are not meant to symbolise patriotism. My dh and both sons think they are a good thing dd and i don't agree with that.

I don't like St George's flags. But that's the point.

I think they’re talking about his voting record - voting against a ban on selling to Israel and for a ban on Palestine action. I can’t find anything anywhere that he campaigns regularly for Israeli issues but perhaps noting against banning something could be said to be voting for it?

In any case this entire post is somewhat less depressing than many previous ones so genuine appreciation for that. I’m so f’ing tired I’m not even angry anymore. And certainly nothing has surprised me for a while.

Kingscallops · 13/01/2026 23:25

But it's OK for Muslim MPs to lead their manifesto on Gaza.

Entirely depends on what their manifesto is. If it refers to anything trying to dismantle/destroy Israel (I.e. River to the Sea) then no it most certainly is not OK.

hihelenhi · 13/01/2026 23:46

Hmmtheplant · 13/01/2026 22:35

I agree, but I don’t think there is evidence of anti-semitism here.

It is blatant anti semitism. What the fuck is wrong with you? Have you always been a racist?

Kingscallops · 13/01/2026 23:50

Hmmtheplant · 13/01/2026 23:41

Yeah sure you got me I’m really a massive closet anti-Semite cunningly disguising my bigoted views in political beliefs FFS

No indicators needed. Your posts lend themselves to a fair conclusion.

Then I suggest you don't know the implications of from the river to the sea. Keep trying to educate yourself. I promise you being fully furnished with the whole history of the ME will enlighten you further.

Although this thread has been generally depressing, I enjoyed the little treason detour. Given we're technically a CoE country and I know quite a few staunch Catholics who might value faith over country, I've been debating where we deport them to - Vatican City?

More concerning is what on earth we do with the Quakers and Methodists??

Just wanted to add a quick comment just to you. Please believe that there's loads of us out here who support you unfailingly. Our UK Jewish community has such a rich history and has been part of us for so long that it grieves me deeply that any of you are being made to feel unwanted and unsafe. I have watched the escalation in anti semitism in recent times with growing horror and wish there was something that I could do about it. I send my love to you and my hopes that things will improve and that you can feel more supported, as you deserve.

Are Palestinians equally appalled by Hamas carrying out attrocities in their name? I suspect not...

Great point. Aren't Hamas the government of Palestine? The terrorists.

Vatican City is a morally corrupt enclave. There's no more room there but the Tower of London still hold some redemption value.

Methodists to Wales and the west Country. Quakers? Maybe back to the Midlands to reopen their chocolate factories?
Sorry, facetious.

I think that poster is just arguing for the sake of arguing to be honest, and therefore just regurgitating what they've seen people say about it on social media without actually doing any research.

Just look at his voting record on UK arms exports to the current Israeli government, it’s public information.

Edited

Did he vote aye on UK arms exports to the current Israeli government? I can't find anything regarding that in his voting record, nor anything in his questions or statement record supporting it. https://members.parliament.uk/member/5010/voting?page=1
Happy to be corrected.
Also, can you please link to where he lobbied to provide UK weapons to the Israeli government? If you're referring to him not signing letters by a group of parliamentarians regarding enforcing sanctions on Israel and suspending arms sales to Israel, that's neither voting nor lobbying, the majority of MPs also didn't sign them and your opinions are not facts.

Was he planning on communicating these political opinions to the children? He’s al elected representative. I think Corbyn is foul but I couldn’t care less if he visited a school in his capacity as an MP.

We have a democracy, people vote for all sorts, people voted for him, he’s committed no crime. I find the idea of cousin marriage revoting, should I be able to ban one of the Gaza MP’s from my local school because they expressed support for it? In a democracy I’m allowed to hold that view.

The irony in that is there is a huge letter writing campaign against anyone in the public eye who is pro Palestinian…lots of venues overwhelmed and cancel bookings because of pressure (relating to people talking about the genocide there)..investigations of this work by friends of Israel groups by the Charity commission at the current time..because they are taking a doxxing political stance to free speech.
