Would just get on with it?

Ok ask the name and occupation of the contestant. That’s all I care to hear thanks.

I don’t care what they’d spend the money on.
I don’t care if they’ve got a funny story about a bucket. It won’t be funny.
I don’t care what their hobbies are.

Just get on with the quiz/game.

RessicaJabbit · 10/01/2026 21:07

It's just filler because the actual game bit didn't fill the allotted and time..

StabbyCat · 10/01/2026 21:11

But it’s so BORING.

Createausername1970 · 10/01/2026 21:14

I do understand. I like Pointless, but I generally watch from Round 2 onwards, as Round 1 is tediously long because of the chit chat. I put the kettle on at the start, and by the time I walk through with my tea, round 1 is just ending.

What a clever thing to say! I’d never thought of that!

🙄

I like quiz shows. I just don’t like the chit chat.

I mean, don't watch the chit chat bit.

Fast forward.... Turn on a bit later.... put the kettle on etc.

The “banter” on 1% Club is the worst bit YANBU

Nicecatneighbour · 10/01/2026 21:22

I've gone off House of Games. The quiz itself is enjoyable, but Richard Osman's droney voice 😱

MirrorMirror1247 · 10/01/2026 21:24

I get what you mean, but sometimes the chit chat can be funny. An example is Lee Mack in The 1% Club. As he's a comedian he can have a laugh with the contestants, which probably puts them at ease a bit.

MrsALambert · 10/01/2026 21:25

This is why I like only connect. Straight into the quiz

There's the unfunny fact about each contestant and Victoria Coren's awful little monologues to get through (but the actual quiz in between is great).

TroysMammy · 10/01/2026 21:36

It takes me 10 minutes to drive to work and it's at the time Radio 2's Scott Mills has The Easiest Quiz on. I used to enjoy answering the questions but the inane chit chat before the questions is so tedious I now drive in silence.

I actually find it worse when the presenter tells stupid anecdotes about the contestant abseiling on Only Connect, but then I find the antics and singing bad as well. This is obviously a serious consent, rather than just for fun. <grumpy>

All of the ones with a set number of questions have the filler because each time the actual time played will be different, Mastermind doesn’t need it because each round is a certain length instead.

RaraRachael · 10/01/2026 21:45

I hate it too and also when contestants give endless explanations of why they chose/didn't choose an answer. On that new Millionaire thing they had 15 seconds to answer but went through such a palaver that Clarkson had to tell them to hurry up!

Just answer the bloody question!

Agree. The chit chat on that is great because Lee Mack is actually funny.

True but compared to others it’s tolerable

LemograssLollipop · 10/01/2026 22:00

I fast forward all the inane guff on House of Games - it's nearly two and a half minutes. Like the quiz.

Well I agree with you, but given the time of the OP I kind of assume that is what she was watching when she started this thread!

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/01/2026 22:28

It annoys me on The Chase.

"Hi, I'm Fred , a retired teacher from London "
Then they take their turn at the cashbuilder and Bradley Walshs first question is
"Hi, what's your name? Where are you from? And what job do you do?".
Contestant then repeats what they said to camera 2 minutes ago.
Then "funny" comment from Bradley Walsh.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 10/01/2026 22:34

I like the man with the gong on the Yes - No bit, although I've not seen him for a while. 🙁

PhantomOfAllKnowledge · 10/01/2026 22:37

I completely agree.

justpassmethemouse · 10/01/2026 22:40

I thought Big Fat Quiz of the Year was an actual quiz. Omg. Never watching again. 90 minutes and 30 questions.

Correct 😀

Lee Mack is funny on WILTY but he’s painfully unfunny on 1% Club. Or at least no funnier than any other presenter.

Bradley Walsh knows where the bodies are buried.

Remember when he pretended to cry with laughter when one of the answer options was “Fanny Schmelar” (sp). So so fake.

It's a comedy show not a quiz ...
