To send out save the dates for a 40th birthday celebration?

To be held in May. Everyone very busy, go on lots of holidays etc.

Why on Earth not? I have a slightly OTT friend who did this for his 30th and we all enjoyed the early notification and the flair. Who says that weddings are so much more important anyway- at least a 40th can't end in divorce!
