Why does that bloke keep crying?

I was (almost) enjoying the show, it's a bit cheesy, but why does that guy keep crying 🤨
It's a bit ridiculous. Nothing to do with him being a bloke btw, I just don't understand why he would cry like that, first time all he was doing was introducing the show :/ Absolutely nothing happened.

Its it supposed to be an endearing gimmick??

It's just how he is. His emotions are freely expressed.

FurForksSake · 09/01/2026 16:11

He just has emotions and that’s how they come out, not a gimmick just who he is.

Egglio · 09/01/2026 16:11

Awww don't pick on Keith. I think all my troubles in the world would be solved if Keith gave me a tearful hug.

Joolsin · 09/01/2026 16:11

The crying was originally quite sweet, now it's just performative and boring!

highlandharpy · 09/01/2026 16:13

I agree that it's cringe and frankly, it invalidates it being of any importance when he does it on a whim.

I think it used to be the equivalent of a Hollywood-Handshake if you made Keith cry but now, he does it for everything. Performative is indeed the word I'd use.

FuzzyPuffling · 09/01/2026 16:18

I love Pottery Throw Down. It's a genuinely good hearted programme and Keith is a gem.

CarlaH · 09/01/2026 16:20

I do enjoy this programme. I don't love Keith and his supposed crying. Sadly as a PP said it is the equivalent of a Hollywood handshake and has to make an appearence in nearly every programme.

I wish they would quietly retire it along with calling so many contestants lovey. Can't he remember their names?

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 09/01/2026 16:25

My uncle is just like Keith - any hint of positive emotion in what he's got to say and he gets choked up. He feels the good feelings far more acutely than the average person. He's had to fight back tears thanking me for homemade cake before. He's lovely, it's genuine.

VivienneDelacroix · 09/01/2026 16:27

That's lovely @PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich I'd love to be more in touch with my emotions. I love Keith.

Interested in why you say that, if he hasn't changed how has it changed to being performative? I didn't watch until last year, so genuine question. I started watching after the Our Welsh Chapel show with him and his wife. They both seem lovely.

LaffyTaffie · 10/01/2026 11:14

Sorry but it's ruining the show for me. I started backwards, so at the newest series so maybe I haven't got the context of series one and his passion or something but the guy literally sobbed over a very normal looking ladel.

The other female presenter looks fed up by it too.

Wish it would stop as i really enjoy seeing what people are creating.

The weird juxtaposition of him being the bad guy that throws bad pots into the bucket then him crying iver a spoon just doesn't do it for me.

He gets emotional about how much feeling people put into their work, does a man crying make you feel uncomfortable i think that is maybe a you issue, and the programme and Keith isn't for you.

I said it has absolutely nothing to do with his sex. Its performative and feels fake. He literally switches it on and off in seconds and dabs his eyes when there are no tears.

I can understand it when peopke are talking about the atories behind the work or if something is really stunning but he literally picked up a very plain ladel, made some boohoo noises and said 'im crying over a ladle now!'

There was absolutely no reason for it apart from it being a gimmick

I'm male and can't watch Forrest Gump without a box of tissues to hand... especially the scene where he asks if Little Forrest is like him.
But I work for a funeral director and attend funerals all the time. I don't cry at everything, I shut that side down and be professional. I'm not saying I've not shed a tear, I've done a couple of funerals where I knew the deceased and had a wet face. But this guy is a complete pain

Thankyou!

Its not about showing emotions at incredible pieces of work (absolutely justified) its him doing it every 2 mins at very normal things and being very 'oh look at me, here I go again!' about it.

Feels very disingenuous.

I don’t think it’s fake or performative. He just feels things intensely and has an easy cry response. The show isn’t for you OP.

I love the show & Keith. Even that he's very emotional & calls everyone lovey.

but this series it feels like the producers have said 'we want more of that' & I'm finding that a bit annoying.

but maybe he's just not trying so hard to hold back or something, I'll see this weekend.

He is as much the show as any other part of it. The show wouldn't be the show without him, so you can't really love the show but think he's ruining it.

It isn't every 2 minutes but even if it was so what, he is an artist who feels emotion, i just don't think it is something you will enjoy, and if you continue watching it will just irritate you.

BurntBroccoli · 10/01/2026 11:32

He is hyper sensitive and hyper emotional. Some people are and they can’t help it.

Other people lack empathy and aren’t compassionate.

But he is part of the show how can you love it if you think he is ruining it?

Because everything else about it is great and he is fine when hes not snivelling.
