Why does that bloke keep crying?

I was (almost) enjoying the show, it's a bit cheesy, but why does that guy keep crying 🤨
It's a bit ridiculous. Nothing to do with him being a bloke btw, I just don't understand why he would cry like that, first time all he was doing was introducing the show :/ Absolutely nothing happened.

Its it supposed to be an endearing gimmick??

I'm male and can't watch Forrest Gump without a box of tissues to hand... especially the scene where he asks if Little Forrest is like him.
But I work for a funeral director and attend funerals all the time. I don't cry at everything, I shut that side down and be professional. I'm not saying I've not shed a tear, I've done a couple of funerals where I knew the deceased and had a wet face. But this guy is a complete pain

That’s the bit that gets me too (although I’m female). Also, in the “Railway Children” when Bobby sees her father get off the train and cries “Daddy, my daddy” and the death of the King in the “King and I”. In fact, when I saw the latter as a stage version in London a few years ago, I was in a whole row of complete strangers, all sobbing. It’s odd the things that affect you the most, isn’t it?

Look, he’s a potter, not a professional presented. If you want to focus on that watch Traitors or that little Irish guy Graham Norton. He cries, he is passionate about his pots.

Talipesmum · 10/01/2026 11:59

There’s been no change. This is how he is as a person. It’s genuine. He’s not snivelling. It’s not put on and it’s nothing like the arrogant full of himself “Hollywood handshake”. If it annoys you don’t watch it, or just try to accept that it’s going to happen and it’s not a fake thing.

Alcoholrecovery · 10/01/2026 12:01

I can’t watch it because of this guy and the performance of crying. Totally ridiculous and contrived. An embarrassment. How does anyone not see it as the gimmick it is?

Coffeeishot · 10/01/2026 12:12

LaffyTaffie · 10/01/2026 11:50

Because everything else about it is great and he is fine when hes not snivelling.

He isn't "snivilling" as i and PP have said it probably isn't for you.

I can cry for England. It's a bit embarrassing how easily I cry. It's more embarrassing for the people around this 6'2" large bloke with a shaved head, a face that has run into a couple of parked buses and an accent that screams working class... crying at a duckling being separated from it's mum

Shedmistress · 10/01/2026 12:30

I cried when I opened my kiln yesterday to be fair. When the clay doesn't S crack, doesn't lose any bits and the glaze works it is a bloody miracle.

Interested in why you say that, if he hasn't changed how has it changed to being performative? I didn't watch until last year, so genuine question. I started watching after the Our Welsh Chapel show with him and his wife. They both seem lovely.

Because everything on Mumsnet is performative!

FurForksSake · 10/01/2026 12:50

@ShedmistressI will cry when my kiln arrives next month and then every time I open it, cracked or not 🤣

BMW6 · 10/01/2026 12:52

I've been watching it from the very start - he's not putting it on, he's just very emotional.

He's not going to change at his age - I suggest you switch over and watch something else!
