Sil being a cf

So 2 of my dc have recently been prescribed glasses. Eldest just tested yesterday.
As they are under 16 they get them on nhs so at no/low cost depending on frames.
Eldest is excited to get glasses so was texting sil this morning. Within minutes i get a text from her :
Hi dc1 delighted to b getting glasses..ask them for both his and dc3 to get a receipt under my name (not theirs) so I can claim for it for u...tests and glasses. Thanks xo'

This isnt the first time shes asked about it, ive never took it on, ignored it because theres alterior motive here.

Why would she need it when im not paying anyway?

I have health insurance through work and can claim for myself and my kids for any glasses, dental etc (up to a certain amount). Each receipt has to be in the name of the person I am claiming for and they have to be listed on my policy.

As you say most kids prescriptions are free, my big teen has expensive tastes so I am happy to pay the upgrade costs.

Keep repeating the same thing, and don't feed the insanity.

I have medical cover I can claim for dental and optical for it only covers my DH and my children. The claim receipts have to be in our own names.
When my children were under 16 there was no claim as free.
Also asking the opticians to put another name on is receipts, no opticians should do that.

Did your cover know you had dependants at the time you took the cover out? I doubt ops sil has cover that means she can claim for kids that no one even knew she had. Im sure they ask this stuff 🤦🏻‍♀️

tigger1001 · 06/01/2026 18:36

I'd play dumb and go back and say
" I'm confused.... what are you wanting to claim for? And by the way as it's prescribed glasses the receipts will always show who they were issued for not who is paying so I'm still confused? What are you asking?" Make her explicitly say what she's wanting the receipts for

laughingnow · 06/01/2026 18:40

What is the point of this thread?

Nearly50omg · 06/01/2026 18:41

If she has the receipts in her name she can claim the money paid for them from the government and they would
pay her the cost of the lenses and frames wtc if she gets certain benefits. Shes not trying to do you a favour she is trying to commit fraud and also steal from your children!!!

An eye test is not a business expense. You can’t claim that against your tax bill.

We do, as we use DSE.

MrFluffyDogIsMyBestFriend · 06/01/2026 18:43

Here's an idea: why not ask her to clarify? It appears that you don't want clarity because then you wouldn't be able to moan about her on here.

MaidOfSteel · 06/01/2026 18:45

Was she planning on claiming the money back and keeping it for herself?!

Shinyandnew1 · 06/01/2026 18:48

I know shes itching to get buying them glasses 'to ease the financial side.'

To ease the financial side of what?

OP, none of your posts make sense.

Surely, you just reply saying, there's no receipt because it didn't cost anything. There is nothing to claim back 'for me'.

Lamentingalways · 06/01/2026 18:51

This is so confusing! I can’t understand why you haven’t simplified it yet. Or explained exactly what is annoying you so we can then form an opinion and give it to you 😭

SurferRona · 06/01/2026 18:57

With some schemes (Beneden maybe one, but I may be misremembering) you just get cash for being unlucky enough to need and use NHS services. Eg, hospital visit for x, we’ll ’pay out’ £200 cash etc. It’s not health insurance like BUPA etc, it’s a sort of risk pooling /anti-premium bonds. I reckon this is more likely the case.

PrettyPickle · 06/01/2026 19:04

I'm kind of thinking she knows they are free for the kids but does she wear glasses herself? I'm guessing she wants the receipts in her name so she can claim on a hospital policy or a work glasses scheme and make some money out of it herself? Anyone else thinking this or am I evil?

I am in a hospital scheme where I get help with glasses but then my employer will pay for eye tests and glasses if its needed for computer work.

I think dear SIL is trying to make a quick buck and not to help you!

Hairgician · 06/01/2026 19:15

Im not giving her any.of my dc medical info and defo not asking opticians to fudge anything either which they wont do anyway if theyve any sense.

Theres nothing to claim for either as they were covered by nhs.

Some people just want to beat the 'big companies' and they do all sorts of stupid shit. My parent is like this... I hate it.

tipsyraven · 06/01/2026 20:23

Mrsclausemunchingonamincepie · 06/01/2026 15:41

She wants to tell people she paid for your dc's glasses...
She wants to be able to flash a receipt in her name.

No, she wants to claim on her own insurance which is why she wants it made out in her name. It would be fraud if there were any receipts to claim for.

Shinyandnew1 · 06/01/2026 20:24

I know shes itching to get buying them glasses 'to ease the financial side.

Who would be 'itching' to buy any other relative glasses?!

CombatBarbie · 06/01/2026 20:26

Cucumbermunch · 06/01/2026 14:56

Your child must be exceptionally close to his aunt to be desperate to message her about it!

Its their aunty?? No different to a grandparent, my DD told the whole family when she got her braces....

Alpacajigsaw · 06/01/2026 20:52

Well if she’d give you the money she’s not really being a CF but she’d be defrauding her work insurance benefit. Just tell her no.

BasiliskStare · 06/01/2026 21:05

@Hairgician

I think a pp had it . Just ask her very clearly why she is asking for this information . And get a clear answer. Until you know , you don't know .

Basilisk ( Professor of the Bleeding Obvious 😂)

I think you are right not to tell her but if it were me I would want to know why she persists.
