Claire's are going into administration.

Just wondered what happened. Where are the people who shopped in there going instead.

They will be no ear piercing if they've all gone shopping online??

Mine were pierced by my GP, with 9ct gold studs.

Whatsinanames · 06/01/2026 14:47

I was in a branch over Christmas and saw them piercing a tiny baby's ears. I was horrified. Good riddance to the shop I say.

Nincompoo · 06/01/2026 14:51

It’s always been a place I avoid anyway due to the upselling at the tills! No I don’t want to buy anything else l, thank you!

same for WHSmiths

LIZS · 06/01/2026 14:53

They have been on the brink and “rescued” before. Overpriced tat does not pay rent, salaries and rates. You can get better value online.

Lovisa do piercings, I've got quite a few piercings and tbf, my lovisa one healed better than the professional shops. You can buy Claire's in Asda and like others, Shein or Primark for jewellery.

They pierce cartilage with a gun so they’re absolutely no better than Claire’s.

Back in the day you could have your ears pierced in the jewellers. I had mine done in a large SE London department store

Hairdressers for me.

Ugh Claire’s.

The size of a postage stamp with every tween in the city crammed in. It made me so bad tempered.

So were mine. My others done by a beauty salon, and me with a needle and an ice pack (and vodka).

Just as well. Piercings should be done (on consenting adults) by an experienced piercer in a clinically clean environment.

Just out of interest, do you mean your GP as in doctor, or grandparent?

I assume doctor, mine were done by my doctor (or nurse at the medical centre).

Thank you. As I say, it was pure curiosity! I’ve never heard of them being done at the doctor’s! Every day’s a school day!

Someone I know got her kids ears done at Claire’s £90 is cost her!!!! £90!!!!! This was going back maybe 3 or 4 years too so god knows what it costs now. And they got infected and had to be removed.
I paid £25 at the same time for my daughter at the local piercers. I can’t believe people were still going there at that price. I thought it was cheap and cheerful but it was absolute extortion

That will have been for the grossly overpriced earrings rather than the piercing itself. They upsell sparkly crap to kids, whereas a sensible jewellers sells you basic gold studs and then you swap for expensive sparkly stuff once they're healed.

Tj Jones now Smiths. Will always be known as Smiths though.

Apart from the name NOTHING has changed in my local branch. The lights are still off, the products are still overpriced, the staff are still vacant and the store is still dirty. So it does make one wonder what on earth the point of a rebrand actually was.

Oh and another vote for getting ears pierced in the hairdresser's. I was only allowed to do it when I hit double figures so spent part of my tenth birthday sitting with a load ladies waiting for their shampoo and set 😄.

TwillTrousers · 06/01/2026 15:30

Our Claire’s is in town. No way would I let/or DD wander round town like I would have done. I’d drop her to the out of town shopping place. I imagine they’ve lost loads of trade that way.

I loved the town as a teenager but now it’s unpleasant with groups of men now.
I look DD to a piercing place for hers, no way would I go to Claire’s.

Nyeaccident · 06/01/2026 15:31

I don't know anyone who used Claire's for ear piercing

My daughter loved the shop as a little girl but I was always steering her away from it because I hated the overpriced products where there were so much pressure to buy multiple products every time

unicornpower · 06/01/2026 15:41

They’re ridiculously bloody expensive. My daughter picked up a nail varnish set with Elsa on it. £20!!! You can’t get much under £10 and it’s all shit!

Happyjoe · 06/01/2026 15:52

I had mine done in a piercing shop, way before Claires was even a thing and I think hair dressers used to offer it.
Sad to see people again in retail lose their jobs, but Claires had it's day, surely? Was just tat.

DramaAlpaca · 06/01/2026 16:02

I also got my ears pierced at the hairdressers.

TorroFerney · 06/01/2026 16:13

Cookingupmyfirstbornson · 06/01/2026 13:49

Good hopefully no more children damaged by dirty piercing guns

Was just going to say that. Would a reputable jeweller do a babies ears? I know there’s no law against it but I can’t imagine the posh one I had my teenagers done at admitting a baby.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 06/01/2026 16:18

Mine were done at a beauty salon (1983) and jewellers (1986).

I’ve never been inside a Claire’s.

LorenzoCalzone · 06/01/2026 16:21

I got mine pierced at Superdrug recently, by the woman who also threads eyebrows. It was fine. At least their gun won't have been used on genitalia in the previous appointment 🤣
