To ask how many clothes that you own?

AyUpLass · 04/01/2026 21:46

I have so many - triple wardrobe at home with shelves full too (poor DP is in the airing cupboard!) and at my mums I still have a double wardrobe, a chest of drawers, 3 storage boxes of clothes on top of her wardrobe and part of her wardrobe too! Along with some (not many) in my attic.

its insane, I often think if I was to up and leave for any reason what the hell would I do with them all.

do you have many?

Hardly any to be honest . About half a rail plus two drawers of jumpers and tops. Plus underwear. I’ve put on weight after a few difficult years, have lost confidence and think I look awful in most things. I love looking at clothes but feel I’m hard to buy for - big bust and short legs ! Plus everything is so expensive I think I’ll get it wrong and I can’t afford to. I really need to work on myself, I’m having some great counselling and am beginning to like myself again!
Blimey, that turned into a bit of an epic !!

Christmaseree · 04/01/2026 21:57

I’m guesstimating 200 items.

FettleOfKish · 04/01/2026 22:06

About the width of a single wardrobe hung up, two shelves of jeans and jumpers and two drawers of T-shirts and vests. A few very much summer items in a suitcase in storage. Used to have a lot more but when I was pregnant I quite liked the ‘freedom’ that came from having very limited choices so cleared out a lot. It’s crept up since then but I try to regularly drop a few bits in the charity shop bag I’ve always got on the go for stuff DS has grown out of. A lot of what I buy now comes from charity shops too, less guilt if I only wear it a few times before donating it back.

Snowingtoday · 04/01/2026 22:08

I've got a lot but wear very few of them.
I tend to stick to my favourite things.

Lately though I've been making a conscious effort to wear more of the stuff I already own rather than buying more new things which will get squiralled away in a wardrobe or drawer. It's a hangover from my childhood where new things were put away " for best".

TheToteBagLady · 04/01/2026 22:09

Lots, but I did a huge cull over Christmas.

I probably have about ten of everything - skirts, jeans, blouses, T-shirts, blazers, sleeveless tops, dresses, jumpers, etc

And summer clothes that are boxed away (mostly dresses)

PickledElectricity · 04/01/2026 22:09

Much less than that. 3 drawers, half a wardrobe and about 6 coats.

You can't possibly wear all that? Time for a clear out?

soupyspoon · 04/01/2026 22:09

Im not sure, I feel like I need what Ive got but it doesnt fit in the storage I have. I only have a small double wardrobe, I think its about 150cm across and a few leather jackets take up space in there. Then I have 3 chest of drawers and coats separately on another rail.

Im cold a lot so have lots of thermals, jumpers, thick joggers, thick socks, it seems to take up a lot of space.

RandomTyping · 04/01/2026 22:11

Not much. A small wardrobe. Two drawers. That's everything including underwear and pyjamas, not including coats (I own four coats/jackets.) DH is like you and has mountains of crap, so there's no space for me unless I want our house to be drowned. I resent him hugely for it!

Catza · 04/01/2026 22:12

No. I recently moved so I can tell you I have exactly five extra large vacuum sealable bags full. This includes a large puffer coat.
Most of my things are still in storage and for the last seven months I've been living in

  • three pairs of jeans
  • three identical black polo neck jumpers
  • four pairs of gym shorts
  • one leather skirt
  • one little black dress
  • one cashmere smart jumper
  • two pairs of leggings
  • three gym tops and two casual t-shirts
Plus a drawer full of pants and socks and one set of PJs. And it's been perfectly fine and I can dress up or down for any occasion apart from a gala or royal tea party.
Perrylobster · 04/01/2026 22:13

Similar to you and I offload to charity at least 4 times a year

Sharpzebra · 04/01/2026 22:18

Not that much maybe 5 pairs of trousers 12 tops 2 jumpers one hoody and undies and bras and 3 skirts tights 1 dress black

RosesAndHellebores · 04/01/2026 22:20

I've a 12' run of wardrobe space with shelving above and a five drawer chest of drawers.

Ineedanewsofa · 04/01/2026 22:21

x2 drawers of sports clothes
x1 underwear
x1 socks
x1 T-shirts, long sleeve tops, vest tops
x1 thin jumpers
x3 rails in the wardrobe for blouses, jackets, cardigans, skirts, work trousers
x5(!) shelves of thick jumpers/hoodies, jeans and joggers
An entire 2 door wardrobe of coats with yet more coats hanging up downstairs in the porch and the utility room! I have downsized my coat collection significantly recently but there are still far too many. I love a good coat.

FunnyOrca · 04/01/2026 22:26

Oh wow… what do you do with them all OP?

1 jeans (I need another!)
3 leggings
4 jumpers
4 cardigans (2 need to be replaced)
1 smart cardi/jacket thing
~ 10 tops
~ 5 “everyday” dresses
1 skirt
~ 5 “summer” dresses
~ 10 party/wedding guest dresses
2 coats
Need to replace a jacket

IDontHateRainbows · 04/01/2026 22:29

Too many,,due to space I can't get any more as there's literally nowhere to put them and the ones already stored away tend to get forgotten if i can't see them. Not counting out of season clothing which is stored in the attic.

I have an attitude now of trying to buy most things second hand ( vinted/ charity shop) and then giving to charity when im done with them so unless I love something I try to think of my clothes as transient. I dont give money to charity generally so this is instead.

ultracynic · 04/01/2026 22:30

I reckon about:

10 pairs of jeans
10 other trousers / skirts
20 dresses
15 jumpers
15 nice tops
15 T-shirts/casual
20 vests / summer tops
10 cardigans/hoodies

In fact I’m going to use that list to start doing an audit. Will get all my jeans out this week for a try on, and put some in a charity bag as I only really wear two or three pairs.

There are things in there that are a decade old. There are things I love that will never fit me again. There are a handful of expensive items I should sell.

My wardrobe can’t take any more. It’s time.

patooties · 04/01/2026 22:35

Absolutely loads. A triple wardrobe and a big chest of drawers. Coats and jackets are down stairs in the cloakroom. Under my bed I have 3 boxes of knitted things in sealed containers.
i also stash things in the loft - there are 4 large suitcases with ‘other season’ clothes - and a rail of wedding and black tie fancy stuff that I resurrect when I need to. I need to get rid of loads really.

Sonolanona · 04/01/2026 22:46

4 pairs of jeans
5 jumpers/sweatshirts
6 Uniqlo long sleeved heatec tops
5 shirts/ popover tops
5 t shirts
5 vest tops
One pair of dungarees
3 sports leggings
2 sports vests
loads of socks, wellie socks, pants and bras
WAYYY too many coats... at least 10
Too many boots, trainers and flip flops!

I wear most of these but need to have a sort out and recycle some stuff!

Anothercoffeex · 04/01/2026 22:54

I own the following.
4 plain hoodie jumpers.
2 fluffy jumpers.
3 plain hoodies coats.
7 pairs of leggings
2 pairs of cotton slacks.
6 plain tshirts.
5 plain vest tops.
7 bras 22 pairs of knickers 10 pairs of socks.
1 scarf 1 hat.
4 sets of fluffy pjs.
3 pairs of shoes trainers, flipflops and boots.
All hanging on a small clothes rack that looks half full.
Pants and socks are in a hanging net.
2 sets of bedding one on one off on the bottom of my rack.

SALaw · 04/01/2026 22:56

Do you wear the ones still at your mums? That seems like an easy one to sort either by getting rid of the lot or keeping a set number of favourite items (10?) and getting rid of the rest.

Boudy · 04/01/2026 22:58

8 dresses.
3 pairs leggings
3 cardigans
1 wool poncho
4 pairs pjs
3 dressing gowns
4 pairs tights
3 bras
10 pairs pants
3 coats

TheChosenTwo · 04/01/2026 22:59

Probably ‘too many’ but after losing a lot of weight on MJ I have rediscovered my love of clothes.
I have a double wardrobe and 4 large drawers, summer stuff is stored out of the way in one medium sized suitcase.
I’m actually going to do that thing this year and turn the hangers around when I’ve worn something. Anything that’s not worn by the end of the year can be decluttered if it’s not an ‘event’ type of outfit that I just didn’t have the right occasion for. Might even take some daily outfit photos for myself to see if I can identify what my actual style is (suspect bag lady but I have so many lovely clothes now that I can’t still look like a bag lady!).

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/01/2026 23:02

Couple of jeans
half a dozen shirts/t-shirts
one dress
several walking clothes
several pyjamas

eurotravel · 04/01/2026 23:03

I charity shop anything I now don’t wear regularly with a few exceptions

AhBiscuits · 04/01/2026 23:05

Quite a lot but nowhere close.to.what you have. Why not get rid of some? At least once a year I go through my wardrobe and ditch anything that no longer like and know I won't wear again.
