Following on from the toilet roll threads on here today , I googled what is a normal amount of loo rolls a family of four use a week.

If you use water first then there is no need to use tons of loo roll, it’s obviously much cleaner too. I never understand people that don’t use water first !!! It’s extremely unhygienic

How, though? Do you make sure that you've got a good seal with your bum and then flush it a couple of times first whilst you're still sitting there?! Or do you do something unseemly with an extra shower pipe extension without a head on it?!

bugalugs45 · 04/01/2026 07:25

I buy the double rolls so last ages , in fact I save the loo roll inners for my friends nursery school and takes me several months to even fill a small bag . Have 2 loos & they last at least 2 weeks each
My sister uses loads , no idea what she does with it

Use a bum gun or a jug!! Like most of Asia lol

TricNorthCarolina · 04/01/2026 09:38

Family of 5, 4 adults, all wfh 3/4 days a week. We go through 2 loo rolls a day.

How old is he?

introduce him to a cloth & toilet cleaner if he doesn't think your took ref seat is clean enough for the backs if his legs! Does he sit on grass. Walks etc outside in summer with shorts on?

@Poodlelove Are you U or NU about what? All you've said is that you googled something???

He’s 16… autistic with OCD…. And no he won’t wear shorts either - might get contaminated .
He won’t engage with therapy anymore - so we just accept that he uses a lot of toilet role . Can’t change someone at this age unless they want to change unfortunately.

But we don't tend to have Asian-style toilets readily available to buy/use in Europe. And if you asked somebody in the UK if they had a jug you could use for going to the toilet, they'd probably fear that you wanted to use the jug instead of the toilet and be horrified!!

luckylavender · 04/01/2026 11:07

Two of us and we use one every other day

Yes I misread, it wasn’t the op!
I agree not needed at home but if the previous poster’s son won’t sit on the seat without something then there are liners available.
no idea if they are actually flushable but I do recall reading ‘flushable liners’ somewhere!

mind you I may have misread that too 😅

😂😂😂

you may have read it, but they say 'flushable' on stuff that isn't,(like wipes) because of our slack laws about the claim (I can't remember but it's something like if it breaks down in water - doesn't say how quickly!). It might break down in 100 years, but that doesn't help our sewage system.

pee
poo
paper (toilet roll only)

if he's old enough I'd be insisting that if it's not clean enough for him he uses a cleaning cloth & spray) if he's not old enough I'd just be telling him no or giving him wipes that go in the bin! (& yes, I have plenty of SEN experience if he has SEN)

@Fidgety31 just read your post about his age &SEN. Sometimes you just choose a different solution & that works for you, so. Not the end of the world.

however, I disagree that you can't change behaviour at 16. With both SEN & OCD you can, if it's important enough to you. I can see why this would come a ling way down the lust though. I wish there was a hug emoji that wasn't so smiley!

supersonicginandtonic · 04/01/2026 13:00

We're a family of 7 and use a pack of 24 per week.

Nolongera · 04/01/2026 13:09

1 per person per week.

No idea what some people do with it. Possibly think they needs tons every visit.

IceIceSlippyIce · 04/01/2026 13:28

I cannot believe how much loo roll you all go through! OK, so 3 of us are out of the house 5 days a week, which is going to reduce the usage, but I buy 16 rolls maybe every 6-8 weeks? So less than a roll per person per week.

SapphireOpal · 04/01/2026 14:21

intrepidpanda · 03/01/2026 23:58

OK there is only 2 of us but we are 1 a week (and i pee a lot). Don't know how a family even goes through 7 to 10

1 a week for 2 people?! Are you not at home very much? Are you both very constipated?

SapphireOpal · 04/01/2026 14:24

This is going to turn into a "how many sheets do you use per wee" thread isn't it...

Sharptonguedwoman · 04/01/2026 14:30

1 good quality roll per bum per week in our house.

Denim4ever · 04/01/2026 14:37

KarenWheeler · 03/01/2026 21:49

It would surely depend on the ratio of male to female household members? Women and girls use a lot more toilet paper than men and boys.

The opposite in my experience, although I understand that some males don't wipe after number 1

Denim4ever · 04/01/2026 14:43

Not all loo rolls are equal. Quilted doesn't go as far even though it's better quality. Very thin likewise

85 per person, per year is UK average....

DJSteves · 04/01/2026 14:51

I buy a pack of 12 every couple of months. Two of us but we do have visitors regularly. We have three toilets and live in a country that culturally use bum guns as standard. My mind boggles how much some of you use. Your poor pipes 😂

notedbiscuits · 04/01/2026 15:01

Fidgety31 · 03/01/2026 21:54

At least one a day (3 person household ) but that’s mainlY because my son lines the seat every time he uses it

Why does your son line the seat? There is no benefit of people laying loo roll on toilet seat. As the paper is porous, your skin is a natural barrier to germs. Unless you have an open wound on your bum.

notedbiscuits · 04/01/2026 15:02

I live alone and probably use a loo roll every 6-7 days.

notedbiscuits · 04/01/2026 15:04

There are some people that use too much loo roll. Put a new loo roll out earlier in the day and later a (ex) friend came to visit and used the loo. She used a quarter of it in one loo trip.

1 a week?? Do you have a bidet?? This is an alarmingly low amount. Amazed. We use more like 1 a day. Family of 4. All very regular.... clearly!

DancingNotDrowning · 04/01/2026 15:11

I haven’t the faintest idea how much we use, but I’m absolutely certain that life is too short to feel stressed about how much you use or don’t, much less how much anyone else uses or doesn’t.

Really? Strange that as most of my Muslim friends ( in the UK) have jugs for that purpose. And I have a bun gun fitted in my bathroom

You can use them with western style toilets

He’s autistic and has OCD too- it’s just one of his quirks . I could explain this to him all day long but it wouldn’t make any difference unfortunately.
