Traitors - Black Contestants - WARNING, SPOILERS! (Title edited by MNHQ)

SPOILER ALERT!!!

Time and time again black contestants are voted out early doors on reality show. The latest series of the traitors has been on for 2 days and 2 black women have already gone. I even checked the statistics with AI:

Black contestants are statistically eliminated earlier in some reality shows, particularly Survivorand Big Brother, a pattern that has been documented in studies and fan analyses, often attributed to systemic bias or strategic targeting, with discussions on the topic growing as diverse casting increases. While some instances involve clear gameplay, many viewers and players observe a recurring trend where Black individuals, especially women, are targeted in the early stages, leading to deep discussions about racism, privilege, and gameplay within these shows.

Isn’t it about time that protections were put in place on these shows, to make it a fair for all?

When talent shows such as Pop Idol and The X Factor were popular in the 2000s, talented black contestants were often eliminated in favour of mediocre white ones. I also remember Simon Cowell being quite dismissive of black contestants, telling one that she had "all the grace of a boxer".

Boxers have alot of grace otherwise they'd be really bad boxers and get knocked out.

Yea it’s unconscious bias being played out

more suspicion of people of colour from white counterparts who unconsciously collude

probably Ross next

I don’t think anything can be done as it reflects our society sadly

One turned their head when C said 'Traitors' and one mounted another contestant!

They were shockingly bad players.

Shedmistress · 03/01/2026 13:57

Ross told everyone his plan was to ignore his friend. Another really bad player.

FrenchBunionSoup · 03/01/2026 13:58

Erm, I must have missed that bit!

😆

Or you could say 'those two really were bad at this game' and not think they deserved special treatment for being bad at the game just to avoid being thought of as racist.

My position is that they were fucking awful at this game. Thinking they need to have been kept in for some reason based on their skin is racism.

Do they have the right to fuck up just like anyone else or not?

Sure. And viewers have the right to observe that the first two contestants leaving the show were non-white females and not one of the many young white males.

And also to think that Judy was banished because everyone thought she was a traitor even though she was a faithful, so perhaps it was Sam and everyone who voted for her who is bad at the game and not Judy.

She turned her head when Claudia, the host, said 'Traitors'.

That is what put her in the spotlight.

She played it badly because she is now out of the game.

The game is to play to win the money.

There were lots of examples of everyone doing things that were suspicious

black people have more focus on them than white skinned people

on the contrary it’s wise to get people out who you may thing are a challenge and good at the game

also the jumping up at Ross in recognition - if you were hiding something you wouldn’t have done it imv so not sus at all

And no one else looked at Claudia when she was talking? Are you sure of that?

James was drinking the pink 'Traitors' drink instead of the orange Faithfuls drink. Such bad gameplay, no?

Well, as my very first post on here said, it was down to the producers of the show who to recruit, who to allocate as Traitors and what shots to show. I think if they'd have got a shot of two people turning their heads they'd want to up the intrigue and would show it. And nobody else seems to be talking about anyone else doing it so that's all we have to go on.

The players don't seem to have brought up James drinking the wrong drink and they have shown him doing so, so maybe it will come up another time?

This IS a game to get people out and leave yourself standing with the money so those who stand out WILL get voted out. The first woman was the one that put forward the second woman as a potential Traitor so is it her that is racist?

Racist in your eyes. Got you. I take it those posts are being deleted.

They are now deleted I am pleased to say.

The players don't seem to have brought up James drinking the wrong drink

Because James drinking the 'wrong' drink isn't bad gameplay?

They could have equally latched onto James messing around with wanting a shield and then not wanting a shield.

Just remembered that Tameka was also on strictly a while ago and got voted out either first or second I think.

On celeb traitors I couldn't warm to Tameka at all and found her uninteresting, and felt the same way about Kate. I realise that editing plays a part in constructing what you see, but I do think people can be voted off because they're just not that charismatic or suited to the format, and race/sex/etc isn't all there is to it

Re Ross and Netty, I felt really bad for him, she was giving it laldy and he was clearly cringing himself to bits and didn't want it to be a big thing. And how can they not check whether the cast know each other?

WhatterySquash · 03/01/2026 15:22

Meanwhile both Cat and Nick were fascinating and fun to watch and lasted a long time.

anyolddinosaur · 03/01/2026 15:34

CountFucula · 03/01/2026 11:12

Why are you commenting if you never watch?

Because every person of colour is always deemed to be perfect and the only possible reason they are not still on the show must be bias. If there is bias it is likely to be a reaction to that whole idea - that you cant possibly want someone to leave a show for any other reason.

You dont realise how much damage you do.

Perhaps stop and think why you trivialise the concern raised about the possibility of unconscious bias being at play. Why is that idea so odious to you?
Your comments are very much in the vein of the pp who referred to people wallowing in victimhood.
Consider the damage caused by minimising and dismissing these possible biases rather than trying to raise awareness of them.

itsthetea · 03/01/2026 15:51

The trouble with racism based on unconscious bias is that any individual case is hard to prove - it only becomes obvious when looking at the big picture , the program over time, all programs, employment opportunities when it’s clear it’s a massive problem

anyone denying that bigger picture exists really is racist. Anyone not being able to make the leap form the bigger picture to how it might play out here isn’t thinking hard enough

once concerns have been raised then something should be done.

no one likes to think they might have irrational biases but the shame doesn’t come from having a bias, but from refusing to consider that you might have one, refusing to work towards making bias explicit so it can be overcome, pulling yourself up if you realise you have demonstrated one.

This basically

SparklyGlitterballs · 03/01/2026 15:55

Two black women are the first out and two of the three on the second shortlist are POC. What are the chances they'll choose Ben? The secret Traitor seems to have it in for Maz too, as he's been on their shortlist twice.

SkaterGrrrrl · 03/01/2026 15:57

OP I made the exact same observation to my family last night while watching episode 2: people of colour being lined up to be killed and to be voted out. Unconscious bias is totally a thing.

Before anyone says it, I realise I've muddled up the names of Reece and Ross, so only one POC on the shortlist. Apologies for my mistake.

blacksax · 03/01/2026 16:38

There's a list on another thread of people who voted for Judy at the round table. Not all of them were white. If they'd had any suspicions that the accusation was racially motivated, they wouldn't have voted for her, would they?

Quine0nline · 03/01/2026 16:40

I don't give a fight for Traitors, but given that black people make up 4.1% of England and Wales and Asian people make up 9%, what happens to the Asians? Data from 2021 census.
