Not looking for a new year new me kind of thing, unless thats what your doing. More like I want to do more of this and less of that.

Curate my social media and unfollow the irrelevant
Unsubscribe from endless company emails
Walk/move more
Lift weights
Maintain friendships/contact with people
Read more, scroll less
Purge all subscriptions for 12 months. There's enough free stuff out there
Declutter the house and sell on Vinted

My big one is to read a book a month - I used to read a lot but since having my daughter I’ve found it so hard, 1) to find the time and 2) to concentrate for more than 30 seconds.

Second one is to switch my workouts from only running, to running + strength training. Again, since having my daughter I’ve not been exercising as much, but when I do I find I’m so much more sluggish than I used to be, so figured that changing my routine might help and ultimately strength training is really good for running anyway.

Third one is to try to make an effort with my skincare - in preparation for this I asked my husband for some of my favourite products for Christmas, and so I feel like this should be an easy one to stick to.

NimbleHiker · 01/01/2026 10:59

I am going to start reading more as i have loads of books that i haven't read yet. I am starting with the deptq books. I am going to stop buying books on impulse.

Clear out the clutter in my house.
Less Mumsnet, especially relationship threads, so many sad/bad dh threads that make me feel angry/sad.
Read more books.
Find a hobby.
Do less housework or at least be more assertive and delegate to the 4 other adults who live here too😁

I know what you mean about MN but those threads have also opened my eyes to what sadly some people have to deal with. I find it an education.

Change job by mid June, see family and friends more, get back to bring me x happy new year everyone x

The job one is good. I don't want to change my job but will be looking out for the same thing closer to home - less commuting.

I was diagnosed as pre-diabetic in October so am going to give up sugar in the hope I can reverse it. I LOVE cake so this will be a huge challenge for me - wish me luck!! Also good luck to all of you with your own resolutions🤞.

You can reverse this! Best of luck.

Best of luck, prioritise yourself as no one else will

Thanks. I work with send kids and I’m just so fucked off with parents who won’t parent ‘oh they have autism/adhd/whatever’

yeah, and? They can be taught not to hit. They can be raised like other kids. They’re capable and funny and able to thrive if you just stopped babysitting them with a fucking screen, did therapy with them you’ve been taught how to do but think it’s only the Drs to do, parent them!

I don’t get paid enough to fix these problems and take the abuse so… new career training has been happening for the last year and a bit

im hoping to have a new job before the end of the school year. I’m very tempted to hand my notice in and be unemployed for a bit but I don’t know what’s worse.

unemployment or working like this 😭

Fixydodah · 01/01/2026 12:42

Wellbeing will underpin everything this year. It’s a broad heading but before I do anything, say anything, buy anything, react to something etc I will see how it serves my want to be really well. I will also continue my exercise regime which I have followed last six months, which has made me feel so much better. Lots of being in nature too, I love it. I want minimal drama and as stress free a life as I can get.

Read more fiction. I have tended to read a lot of non fiction in the last few years. I read that reading fiction makes you more empathetic and I do think I have become too matter of fact.

Listen to music more. And to crazy dance when nobody is in. I feel so much better after both.

Unemployment is worse I think, stick it out don't have a break in your pension. There are good jobs on local council websites linked to education with some time wfh. You could also do admin in a school and still get the holidays.

I hate the holidays! Everything is expensive 🤣

I’d love a 4 on 4 off or 4day week FT job over a term time only and the option to choose when I go on holiday but I’ll happily take a regular 5 day week job.

yes jobs market is terrible right now. I’m highly skilled outside of education but I’ve barely had any interviews. And you’re right about the LGPS I need it. Thankfully my state pension is all paid up and I’ve topped up where necessary.

Standing on one leg whenever I check my phone. I've only recently started doing this, but it means I'm not tempted to scroll for hours.

NotrialNodeal · 01/01/2026 13:24

I'm on a low spend, saving up mission and I'm also quitting vaping and loosing weight. Successful 13 hours in...nicotine patch on, no vape. Eaten two pieces of brown bread with butter and put £1200 into savings. Feeling great 😎😆

Schools are crying out for support staff, so perhaps you just need to sort your CV to really sell yourself. You sound like you have a great attitude towards the children and could do so much more in the right setting. I hope 2026 sees you finding a great school that values you.

WestwardHo1 · 01/01/2026 13:31

Be kinder to myself, in all ways.

RoamingToaster · 01/01/2026 13:41

I’ve gone a bit mad with resolutions 😂 annd so won’t bore everyone with the list, although most are small, simple and not overly difficult if I make time.

What I plan to do to be more productive and achieve most of them is to try out using a kanban board and make goals to complete for each three month period.

MCF86 · 01/01/2026 13:46

I love the simple, achievable resolutions!

Use the car less

Put my phone down and pick up a book

Do better with meal planning to cut back on waste. I threw away a while pack on mince yesterday 😭

I’m going to fill as a minimum one bin bag full of stuff per fortnight. As of January I have compressed my work to a nine day fortnight. my husband and I plan to drop said bag at charity shop or tip on our lunch break on that day & then out to a cafe for lunch date.

Every door or cupboard I open we are absolutely choc a block with stuff. I need some space. And we need some time just us 2.

Excellent stuff here.

-Do a quality improvement project at work
-Get back to reading 50 books a year - I’m on the threads here but didn’t get there in 2025
-Get to a healthy BMI (boring I know)
-Aim for sex 3 x a week
-Kill off my toenail fungus 🔪

I'd tackle #5 before going for #4. But the road is long and arduous, my friend 😁

Good luck.

I deleted Facebook and Instagram - my only social media accounts - on New Year’s Eve and I already feel lighter. I am not a content creator and found it was becoming more and more draining / toxic. I am pregnant and particularly found the content geared to me troublesome.

I am otherwise hesitant on resolutions given this year will look different as I am due in July and don’t wish to overextend myself, but here goes:

  • sell - don’t just buy - on Vinted! But also keep up the second hand buying that I started in 2025.
  • read more novels. I studied English at university and miss reading when I am in my day job (which involves a lot of not-so-fun reading!)
  • get back into a sensible healthy eating and exercise regime (within reason given baby!) - I had a good thing going but have been travelling the last few months and eating what I like.
  • tackle house / admin in a more productive / efficient way. I tend to get overwhelmed with lists and how much there is to do and get paralysed into achieving very little!
  • design our garden for a transformation in 2027.
