What’s your thermostat set to?

My DP really feels the cold and has the thermostat set to 21 degrees from 6.30am til 10pm and 15 degrees at night. If I turn it down to 19 degrees he complains so I just wondered how warm you try and keep your house?

20-21 depending on how we feel.
we both wfh and have sedentary jobs so get chilly just sitting still.

Simonjt · 29/12/2025 18:37

21, off overnight as it doesn’t get below 16/17 at night.

cupfinalchaos · 29/12/2025 18:44

We have underfloor heating set to 22 all the time.

pinkblueyelloworange · 29/12/2025 19:15

Off at night, small window open.
20-22 in the day.

Bigcat25 · 29/12/2025 19:25

21

Insidemyownhead · 29/12/2025 19:27

18 in the day, off at night.
based in scotland, if that helps.

FinallyHere · 29/12/2025 19:31

24deg centigrade 24hrs/day

Its for Elderly Mr DH, who is scheduled shortly to be admitted to Thoracic ward Harefield hospital with multiple issues including significantly impaired mobility and heart/circulation

i have to warn anyone who comes to visit to bring beachwear. My elderly mother was the same. Sigh. I keep a fan by my bed and often need to run it

PurpleReindeer2 · 29/12/2025 19:36

20 during the day. Goes off at 9pm until 6am.

MiddleAgedDread · 29/12/2025 19:45

20 degrees for a couple of hours morning and evening, 16 in between (often boost it for an hour if working from home) and 14 overnight.

ThirdStorm · 29/12/2025 19:46

18c between 1730-2000 each day. I have a very energy efficient home and it has to get consistently below freezing for me to need it on longer.

SoPunkontheInternet · 29/12/2025 19:47

21, boosts to 25 if we get cold, although dh does look at me like this 👀 when I hit that button

Left · 29/12/2025 19:48

17 during the day. If it gets super cold then I knock it up to 20, but that hasn’t happened too often this winter. I turn it right down at night.

IsoldeWagner · 29/12/2025 19:49

LuckyCharmz · 28/12/2025 23:29

2I.5 and off at night.

Exactly the same with us.

Redcabbagefarts · 29/12/2025 21:55

It's set to 20° for when we're at home. Goes off at 9pm during the week and 10pm at weekends. House is of modern construction and well insulated.

Teajenny7 · 29/12/2025 22:02

20 to 21 daytime. 18 overnight. I don't work to sit and freeze!. Personally, I would have it warmer but I am marrid to Yorkshireman.

16.5 all the time . Turn up to 18 if it’s really cold

This makes no sense. However cold it is outside 16.5 inside is the same temperature. And it’s not really warm enough.

mindutopia · 29/12/2025 22:05

😂 we don’t actually have a thermostat set as in a minimum temperature that we keep the house at. We just turn on the heating when we feel we want it on. But our inside temperature is usually between 14-16c. Very rarely above 17c because I feel like I’m roasting then! We don’t keep a warm house.

fitflopqueen · 29/12/2025 22:11

No general thermostat here, do have a couple of tiny ones. No heating on now but log burner on slow and 22 in sitting room. Bedroom is nearer 15-6,
Range cooker in largish kitchen so usually around 20 and that keeps the bathroom above comfortably useable

Get yourselves a standing desk with a treadmill.

Anything above 16 feels warm to us. We have the heating off at night, windows open, bug, thick feather duvets. Very comfortable.

Tumbleweed101 · 29/12/2025 22:25

20C if I'm sitting about at home in the evening or in the day (ie over xmas!) but it goes down to 15C when I go to bed or when I go out. Keeps it warm enough not to let damp form or freeze. I might turn it down if active doing housework at home. I always wear a jumper so not hanging out in summer wear when it is at 20C.

BeMintFatball · 29/12/2025 22:28

Somewhere between 19 and 21 depending on whether I’m laying on the sofa or need the radiator on to dry clothes.

My frail mother has hers on 25 all the time. When I have spent 90 minutes on public transport to get to her I feel like passing out with the heat.

Both my partner and I grew up in older houses with no central heating when we were very young...I wonder if you were the same?
12 degrees! But we have a wood burner which basically heats most of the house, 12 is for the kitchen. Our bedroom is about 10 degrees and we sleep really well

BlueWorkDay · 29/12/2025 22:46

19 during the day.
16 at night.

If we feel chilly we boost it up to 21.

TeaBiscuitsNaptime · 29/12/2025 22:46

18 degrees generally and I often turn it down to 15-16 at night time. It often reads 21-22 degrees though which is way too hot IMO
