What’s your thermostat set to?

Keepingmecalm · 28/12/2025 23:05

My DP really feels the cold and has the thermostat set to 21 degrees from 6.30am til 10pm and 15 degrees at night. If I turn it down to 19 degrees he complains so I just wondered how warm you try and keep your house?

23.5 all the time

PurpleLovecats · 29/12/2025 00:00

18 and off overnight. I usually switch it off in the day but the others turn it back on!

nam3c4ang3 · 29/12/2025 00:00

21 all day.

Tdcp · 29/12/2025 00:04

We have a young baby so it's set to 20 / 21 during the day at the moment..night is around 16.

LegoHomeAloneHouse · 29/12/2025 00:08

23 all day as we work from home. 19/20 at night, which is mainly for the dogs!

mondaytosunday · 29/12/2025 00:13

18

SnowFrogJelly · 29/12/2025 00:14

21 here.. occasionally 22

converseandjeans · 29/12/2025 00:16

6-8am 21
8-3pm 14
3-10pm 21
overnight 14

18 seems very low but it might depend on layout & how well insulated the house is.

Cursula · 29/12/2025 00:17

16 and we wear clothes ! Weird going into other peoples houses and seeing T-shirts but that’s because they have thermostat at 22. Each to their own.

HeddaGarbled · 29/12/2025 00:17

Pick a number, any number.

Eggseleventwelve · 29/12/2025 00:18

21c . Can’t bare getting up to a cold house. Just back from Oz !

LBOCS2 · 29/12/2025 00:21

16.5/17 when the heating is on - but it’s not on all day, a couple of hours in the morning and then early afternoon and in the evening it’s on for 4hrs. Completely off overnight.

isitmytime · 29/12/2025 00:21

14 if I’m out the house, working staying with DP or sleeping etc
17.5 upstairs
18.5/19 downstairs.

I hate being too warm and if it’s really cold I just chuck on an extra layer or grab the sofa throw while I watch tv

embarrassedparent2025 · 29/12/2025 00:23

20c from 5:30am - 22:00. 17.5 overnight

Also if 1yo DD bedroom drops below 17.8c overnight the heating kicks in for 30 minutes. She wakes up if its cold overnight

Stayeduptoolateagain · 29/12/2025 00:25

9 degrees. Genuinely 🤣. Have the heating on a couple of times a day. Let it get up to 20, then switch it off. We have log burner in the lounge most evenings though.

Keepingmecalm · 29/12/2025 17:45

What a range! Shows how different we all are!

18 degrees when it is on, which is usually a few hours per day. We wear thick hoodies/jumpers.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 29/12/2025 18:08

When it’s on (generally early morning for an hour or two and then 3pm-8.30pm if we’re out of the house at work / college, otherwise its on most of the day) usually 18 or 19 degrees, occasionally my son will turn it up to 20 if it’s really cold.

I don’t understand people having heating on overnight whilst they’re asleep, seems like an unnecessary expense, isn’t that what thick duvets and hot water bottles were invented for!

HollyhockDays · 29/12/2025 18:16

It’s not on overnight. We don’t use the timers just put it on manually - downstairs is about 22 upstairs is 24!!

Chestnutmarenutjob · 29/12/2025 18:21

We have ours on at 24 downstairs and 20 upstairs.

BUT our door and window seals are fucked. So we lose a lot of heat out them and need to have the heating on higher to compensate. And we live right by the North Sea. Windows and doors Being replaced in February thank god.

WinterWooliesBaa · 29/12/2025 18:28

It depends where your thermostat is as to how warm a house feels at different temperatures. Knowing what other people have theirs set to doesn't help.

mine is set at 21.5, but it's portable, so if it's in the lounge (radiators on high) the house is quite a different temperature than if it's sitting in the bedroom (one radiator on low) because if it's in the bedroom it's waiting for the single radiator on a low setting to make the bedroom 21.5° before switching off, but if it's in the lounge the radiators on high get it to 21.5° quickly & turn off. The hallway is somewhere in the middle.

mine is currently in the lounge set at 21.5° but it still feels cold in here because I have been away for a few days ' it was in a low setting, so no residual heat in the furniture.walls etc.

it's a new thermostat & I need to sort out the programming.

so if your thermostat us portable. Put it somewhere colder & your living area will get warmer. But he won't whinge because it'll still say 18°

vanillalattes · 29/12/2025 18:29

We just put ours on as/when we need it - never any warmer than 19 degrees though and only for a couple of hours at a time. Always off at night as well.

Titillateanocelot · 29/12/2025 18:32

19 is perfect.
18 is too cold and 20 is sweltering in my opinion!

WrigglyDonCat · 29/12/2025 18:32

5 at the moment as heating off as I'm still busy and always dressed for outdoors in winter. Once I stop doing stuff it will go onto to 15 until I got to bed then off and windows open upstairs. But I wear thermal base layers top and bottom, trousers, top, thick wool jumper pretty much every day in winter.

lobsterkiller · 29/12/2025 18:34

17-17.5c twice a day. It's ways off on a night time.

I've got a log burner for very cold days.
