Dh got me a watch…from Primark

Twinklylightseverywhere · 21/12/2025 22:29

Would this bother or am I being mean?

Dd went with Dh today to get my present.
Dd is only 6 and couldn’t resist and told me, when Dh went out that they got me a gold watch…from Primark 😬 Dd said to me that I’ve been wanting a watch for ages..?! I have literally never mentioned a watch and haven’t worn one for years. If I wanted to wear one, I have a classic silver Armani one from years ago that just needs a new battery, i’d wear that.
Dd was excited so I made all the right noises and acted excited

Is it just me? I didn’t even know they sold watches in Primark. I’m not knocking the shop as would be happy with fluffy socks, pjs, hot water bottle, candle..anything else really

Wtf is wrong with you?

It's a present from your own little girl. The fact she went out and picked what she thought you might like is adorable.

Presents from children at that age are so much more meaningful when they get free reign over their choice. The fact you do not want or need it is completely inconsequential.

Twinklylightseverywhere · 21/12/2025 22:51

No honestly i’m not, we don’t have loads at the moment and must admit I love spending more on Dd and we will spend money on nice food and a few meals and treat days out. I would much rather that than money on a proper gift

But you’re communicating to your family that you don’t matter and that you are happy with the bare minimum, when actually you are not, and rightly so.

Stop saying that shit!

Bungle2168 · 22/12/2025 22:55

The Casio F-91W is the best digital watch ever made and it costs around a tenner. Endorsed by the Taliban, too, for street cred.

As long as it keeps the time and does not look like it fell out of a clown’s pocket, I’d wear it.

Icantsaythis · 22/12/2025 23:04

My kids got me 3 very ugly ceramic mice for Christmas when they were 6, they saw them in a charity shop, thought they were ‘cute’ and as I liked animals apparently thought I would love them. Ditto the frog ring they got me the following year. Absolutely priceless and treasured by me and tucked in my bedside drawer. This is her not him.

Userxyd · 22/12/2025 23:06

She’s 6?! DH paid but it sounds like it’s from her?

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 23/12/2025 07:17

You are bothered about presents, no matter how much you protest.

You've started a thread on it and done some gentle investigation on 6 year old.

Do a list next time or even better, a link/photo of what you'd like. Doesn't have to be expensive but at least it will be something you'll actually use and like.

butterdish93 · 23/12/2025 07:57

If it’s from your child that’s fine!

if that’s what your husband is getting you then I’d be upset yes

Stephy1886 · 23/12/2025 07:59

I know what you are trying to say but did you know that the movement inside Armani watched is from the company Fosil?

Might as well be wearing a Primark watch

indigox · 23/12/2025 12:59

What did you get him for Christmas?

Westfacing · 23/12/2025 13:38

https://www.primark.com/en-gb/search?q=Watch&tab=products

i didn’t know they sold watches either!

it sounds like it’s from your DD but DH paid? You will need to update us after Christmas!

I hope it's not the £10 'Rolex' !

Add a touch of luxury to your accessories edit with this timelessly sophisticated metal watch

I’m not sure really? I said not to spend much and am genuinely not bothered about a gift as I like to spend more on Dd and some nice days out instead. Perhaps she saw it and dh went along with it, i’d even prefer just a necklace from there, I never wear a watch 🤷🏻‍♀️😅 I will say I love it though etc of course

But it’s clearly what your dd chose, so just act really happy when you open it. I think Irma really nice your husband let dd chose something she liked. She’s only 6 after all. Her taste will change and as she gets older she’ll understand your taste better.

Happyasapiginmuck1 · 23/12/2025 21:37

My child picked me out a pot of potted Stilton as his gift to me yesterday! I couldn't be happier! 😂

TiredMummma · 23/12/2025 22:58

Not sure with this one - suspect your DH bought you something else too? One year my DS got me a dinosaur 🤣

HotMummaSummer · 24/12/2025 17:18

My husband and 5 year old came back from Tesco one day with the "most beautiful necklace ever". The chain of.my favourite necklace had broken a few days before.
I wore the Tesco necklace for a day and then said I was saving it to wear on a special occasion so that could work? It's since been forgotten about

hattie43 · 24/12/2025 17:20

I’d kill anyone gifting from Primark .

ManyPigeons · 24/12/2025 19:10

Stop saying you’re not bothered about gifts or getting anything and maybe they’ll make more of an effort.

And tell your husband when something isn’t right and why or you’ll get gold jewellery and fluffy pjs for life.

jasminocereusbritannicus · 26/12/2025 15:39

If that’s what she chose you…. I personally would love it no matter what!
I don’t understand people who are so picky about gifts from other people. Someone cared enough to give you something. Accept with good grace and bring it out on ‘special occasions’ if it’s not really to your taste.

Flowersforyourchocolateprettyplease · 27/12/2025 09:13

What was it OP? Invested.

CheshireDing · 27/12/2025 09:21

Yes OP we need an update.

Who was the lovely watch from ? 🤔

That's only true up to a point. I agree when it's small kids who are gifting, but not when it's adults.

My niece bought my husband a car washing sponge one year, I think she bought her Dad some soap. I got a tiny notebook. We all acted thrilled.

Hopefully, your husband let your daughter lead on this gift choice. Perhaps he’s got you something different.

I'd happily use a new car sponge, and I sell small gorgeous notebooks in my art gallery - what's not to like :))

Twinklylightseverywhere · 27/12/2025 09:34

Hi everyone

So it was a gold watch from Primark, small perfume and fluffy socks from Primark and a mini snow globe…from both of them..from
what I could gather 🤷🏻‍♀️

Simple....next year all DH presents cone from Primark, chosen by DD and you buy yourself what you really want.

Oh, you need to start doing a list OP.

By saying you're not bothered, you probably still expected a good effort, so if anything, a list means you get something you'll actually use.

I got a set of distinctive pillowcases in a bright colour, and all my bedding is in full sets and white 🫠.
Won't match anything and feel bad even regifting them.
