No even a token bonus

I started a new job a month ago. Everyone got a bonus, even people who have been there 3 months got 5%, others more. Am I unreasonable to think I should have got something ? Perhaps just a token 1%of my salary. I am also one the lowest person paid in the company despite my experience.

I am really trying to focus on the positives but this is really getting me down.

A month in you are being unreasonable.

springintoaction2 · 17/12/2025 06:42

hehe try working in the NHS or the Co op where you get sweet FA the whole year round

But what about people who have only been there 3 months? They still got a bonus

Presumably after 3 months they have passed probation.

Whaleandsnail6 · 17/12/2025 06:45

I think you are a bit unreasonable... A Christmas bonus is surely a thanks for the hard work over the period since last Christmas and you haven't really been employed by them in that time

3 months is longer than a month and generally at the 3 month mark you become more established in a job whereas a month is still very new.

No I don’t think you should have one month in.

Evaka · 17/12/2025 06:47

You're being nuts OP. You shouldn't know such specifics about others' comp either, focus on doing well yourself.

KabukiNoh · 17/12/2025 06:47

I think the 3 monthers are very lucky to get anything!

Christmasishere2025 · 17/12/2025 06:49

Thank you all. It is not ai much about the money but just feeling a bit appreciated, just a token for Christmas. I wasn’t expecting a lot but just s Christmas thanks and a few hundreds.

Yes - try not to take it personally - the bonuses probably took a few weeks to sort out/confirm (I’m a finance manager) so you were just too new or hadn’t even started at that point. It’s just timing
You work for a company that gives bonuses even in the current climate so I would stick with them!

LiddySmallbury · 17/12/2025 06:50

How do you know everyone else’s exact length of employment and whether they hit a bonus or not?

A bonus is a thank you for your work over a period of time. After a month you won’t have earned a bonus in that time.

25flyby · 17/12/2025 06:50

Still learning the ropes at a month.

Three months is a quarter of a year which by then they have added something to the team.

I wouldn't give the lack of bonus a second thought one month in but you shouldn't ignore lower pay unless your job is a lower grade. Talk to your line manager from the perspective of wanting to understand how your role differs from the ones you said are higher paid so you can be sure you understand what they are asking of you.

When the bonuses were probably authorised and the money assigned you weren’t there.

What do the bones scheme rules say about the criteria for a payment?

Overthebow · 17/12/2025 06:57

I wouldn’t think you’d get a bonus at most places after only 1 month. It differs from 3 months because at 3 months they’ve worked 1/4 of a year, got through the initial settling in few weeks and contributed to the year. At 1 month you’ve only just started and wouldn’t have contributed much in the year. They have to have a cut off somewhere. I’d think of it as a positive that you are likely to get a bonus next year, which is becoming increasingly rare.
