How many packages do you get delivered?

Just got a slightly judgey comment from the postman about the amount of deliveries we have been getting lately.

We have a 5 month old baby and we do get a lot of stuff online because I don't want to traipse around the shops with him. So we end up getting one or two packages delivered most days. Just bits from Amazon, Vinted, etc.

It's mostly baby stuff but I end up getting toiletries and some food bits on Amazon now as well because it's just so easy. I know it's a bit wasteful, high street is use it or lose it etc, but at the moment with the baby it's just so convenient.

Just wondered if this is normal? Or am I being really wasteful? Should we all be going out to the shops more??

We have something probably every other day on average. At this time of year there's at least 1 a day.

I'd be inclined to tell the postman to keep his thoughts to himself.

winterbluess · 15/12/2025 12:05

I don't exactly the same.. I need batteries/face wash etc, I'll just amazon it. I even get my bottled water from amazon these days 🤣 if it's hard to get out then why bother?

Violinist64 · 15/12/2025 12:08

Surely the postman would be out of a job if it were not for the letters and parcels he delivers...

NeedForSpeedyGonzales · 15/12/2025 12:09

Postie needs to butt out. Either he is paid to deliver parcels and letters or he's out of a job. Can't have it both ways.

ThirdStorm · 15/12/2025 12:09

Depends if I've splurged on Vinted or not! Last week I had 6 parcels! Generally Amazon is just 2/3 times a month.

MouseCheese87 · 15/12/2025 12:09

Loads at the moment, it's nearly Christmas. Ignore him.

GarlicBreadStan · 15/12/2025 12:09

I've had loads recently but only because of Christmas. Otherwise, I don't get many delivered at all.

My mum, on the other hand has at least 2 deliveries a week

LifeBeginsToday · 15/12/2025 12:12

I buy almost everything online. They say to support the High Street, and I would if there was anything worth buying there. Our High Street is dire.

tedibear · 15/12/2025 12:14

On an average week generally a couple a week. In the lead up to Christmas so probably from November it can be serval a day. I don’t think it’s that unusual at all. Not usually all Royalmail though, a mixture of them, Evri, yodel, Amazon etc. Ignore him, maybe he shld get a different job!

northtea · 15/12/2025 12:15

What was the comment? Was it actually judgy or was it just an attempt at a lighthearted joke like the last poster who said similar the other day?

SunnyViper · 15/12/2025 12:19

About 3 a day at the moment.

blankcanvas3 · 15/12/2025 12:23

Almost everyday. DS is 17 so always ordering things, DH is an Amazon Prime fiend and I’m addicted to Vinted

Isthisforevernow · 15/12/2025 12:27

I did exactly the same when my dc were small, trying to get round many shops with a pushchair and all the time constraints that a baby brings was just not worth it. So back then it was probably several a week, because I would wait until I had multiple items needed at once.
Last week dd and I went to the nearest big shopping centre. We couldn’t get anything we wanted in person. Other than a nice meal with dd, it was a pointless trip! We came home and I ordered the lot online. So I’ve had parcels daily, although from different couriers.
None of the posties business, frankly. Does he want to be out of work if we all stop ordering things?

Ihateslugs · 15/12/2025 12:33

I buy almost everything on line, even have a Tesco food delivery each week because I have mobility problems and cannot walk around shops. However, my goods seem to be delivered by several different carriers like Evri, Royal Mail, Amazon, Fed Ex or direct from the store such as John Lewis. I do seem to get a lot via Evri which is fine as the driver is usually the same guy who knows that it takes me a while to get to the door and sits in his van waiting to wave at me when I open the door.

Mooninjune · 15/12/2025 12:34

I echo pp in that the postie would be out of a job if people didn't have parcels delivered- that's the side of the business that Royal Mail actually depends on for business. And if he makes any more snidey comments I would be telling him that quite bluntly.

I go through periods of having very few parcels delivered and then a flurry of quite a few in a short space of time. I don't have a car and the choice of shops near where I live isn't great so I rely on online ordering. If I had a wee baby like you OP I would be doing just the same as you: ordering online because of the convenience

Mistyglade · 15/12/2025 12:47

The postman can fuck off and do the job he’s paid to do. He’s literally moaning about doing his job.

FestiveBauble · 15/12/2025 13:12

What was the actual comment?

I joke with mine all of the time with how often they’re round - I see them all of the time, they’re lovely.

Stressybetty · 15/12/2025 13:15

Not so much from postman. We get lots of Amazon and supermarket delivery. Evri man dumps parcels on doorstep, thumps door and runs away.

muddyford · 15/12/2025 13:17

Most days. I go to the nearest large town about twice a year. I check prices and end up buying online. No hassle getting there, no ridiculous parking charges, no vapers and potheads. And this is a desirable, provincial, small city.

Is he though? We don’t actually know what was said.

Natsku · 15/12/2025 13:32

I rarely order things online, maybe once a month averaged out over the year (most parcels coming this time of year). I prefer to shop in person so only order things I can't find in shops.

OH is always getting packages delivered though, mostly work stuff. He'd rather order online and pay delivery fees that go find the same thing in the local shop, which seems insane to me. Our postie never makes a comment though, not even when she came twice in the same day.

Friendlygingercat · 15/12/2025 13:33

I buy everything online (mobility issues/non driver) but I try to combine batches so average would be 1/2 times a week. Mostly Amazon. Expecting new diary today.

snugasabug75 · 15/12/2025 13:58

It's Christmas almost daily deliveries

GreenGiant167 · 15/12/2025 14:28

Don’t worry about it. We get a delivery at least every other day. We’ve had deliveries the last two days and are expecting one today and on Thursday (65 inch TV 🙌)

TeenLifeMum · 15/12/2025 14:29

3 teenagers here - it’s daily 😆
