M & S Fishermans Pie issue

GeorgeA12 · 12/12/2025 19:56

Bought a M & S Fishermans Pie tonight and was really looking forward to it. Got myself all set up, TV, drink and on the couch after a long week. To my utter astonishment there were only pieces of white fish in there. Checked the box and its true, they have only put cod in. So its basically cod, sauce and mash.

To my mind, Fisherman's Pie must contain at least smoked haddock, succulent prawns and chunks of cod all in a nice sauce. So, am i being unreasonable? Must a Fishermans Pie contain more than one type of fish or is this another case of food outlets trying to completely reduce the cost of ingredients and hope we dont notice? I feel conned!

I'd be very disappointed too.
I buy the one with salmon and prawns, smoked fish etc, but I assumed all fish pies had a mix.

..and it didnt fill me up despite being the one for two people

Send them some feedback.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/12/2025 21:16

I have the fish pie from Marks and it has lots of different fish and seafood in it. Never had the fisherman's pie.

HeddaGarbled · 12/12/2025 21:16

Yeah, I’ve just clicked on the link and that is clear as day (not hidden in small type, no need to read the list of ingredients) that it’s just cod.

Evaka · 12/12/2025 21:17

Elektra1 · 12/12/2025 20:03

Presumably the ingredients list itemises what’s included.

Yeah she read the box when she realised how shit it was. OP is annoyed because product name suggests a mix of fish.

Evaka · 12/12/2025 21:18

Outraged for you OP

ChikinLikin · 12/12/2025 21:23

I'm outraged too. What kind of fisherman only catches cod?

lifeonmars100 · 12/12/2025 21:26

And I bet it cost about £12 too.

They are a shower of bastards altogether...

Edited

I was contemplating getting a M and S fish pie to shove in the freezer for me and my adult child to eat in the pre Christmas lead up, it was about £12.50p said it would feed two, two toddlers judging by the size of it so I put it back on the shelf

Ready meals are always tiny.
I'm currently living on them as I've broken my shoulder and I buy two for a meal.

Friendlyfart · 12/12/2025 21:32

Fish pie should be salmon, smoked haddock and cod at least. What’s the difference between fisherman and fish pie?
I used an M&S fish pie mix and it had all the above fish in it!

muddyford · 12/12/2025 21:34

Not prawns. I hate the rubbery lumps in an otherwise luscious fish/sauce/mash combo.

Friendlyfart · 12/12/2025 21:35

Oh, I just looked this up online and on the box it says ‘cod mornay …’
Def not ‘fish pie’

chickenfucker · 12/12/2025 21:40

I had a co-op one the other day and it was very nice, surprised me

The Fisherman's not a fussy eater, is he?

What you need OP is an Admiral's Pie

NewYearNewNameWhoKnew · 12/12/2025 21:46

There's a picture of a cod on the box!
I imagine a pie made by an actual fishwife would probably have only 1 type of fish in it - they traditionally weren't exactly high earners. Nowadays the earnings depends on how much black fish they land (or drugs)

I imagine a fish wife would make a pie from whatever trimmings were around, but then wouldn’t charge £5 for the privilege

GeorgeA12 · 12/12/2025 22:00

I like the sound of an Admirals Pie! Hopefully have more than just cod in it 😂

We are not taking about a fisherman's wife pie 😂

Deleted as too slow!

Viviennemary · 12/12/2025 22:29

I wouldn't eat fishermans pie. However. I would think fisherman's pie contains fish. Like meat pie contains meat. Chicken pie contains chicken. So if it contains fish I dont see the issue.

FurForksSake · 12/12/2025 22:30

The reason there are different fishes is to give variety and balance. Usually salmon, white and smoked.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 12/12/2025 22:48

MinnieCauldwell · 12/12/2025 20:17

I used to buy this in the 80s. It contained 2 types of fish and prawns, mash had a crispy cheese crust.

Wasn't that called an Ocean Pie back in the day? I remember it being my mum's favourite and it being a very sad when the realisation dawned M&S had discontinued them!

SouthernNights59 · 12/12/2025 22:50

My DM made a glorious fish pie with only one kind of fish. It did have boiled eggs in it however.

GeorgeA12 · 12/12/2025 23:08

What's with the boiled eggs in a fisherman's pie.....?

Personally I’d expect a fish pie to have the usual 2/3 types of fish plus prawns. The use of the term Fishermen’s pie would make me think it might have different ingredients.

Why?

If a man fishes for a living, and catches only cod, is he not a fisherman?
