Have I committed fraud?

Boxedin2431 · 12/12/2025 12:25

I am a single mum to three.

I have a UC review and bank statements are due.
I have three bank accounts and two I have not declared.
The two bank accounts I have not declared get child maintenance paid in from my children’s dads, respectively.
I have not had any other income apart from the maintenance and some help from my dad sometimes.
i transfer money between all three.
Two bank accounts are in my birth name, the third is in my middle name.

Am I in trouble when I declare them?

I only have UC, child benefit into the one I have declared.
i have child maintenance into one bank account and another child maintenance into the other bank account.

Shall I include 6 month statement for all three?

How? What crime has she committed? She has not declared accounts that never have much money in, and money that does not have to be declared anyway.

It has been explained on her multiple times that she will be fine. She just needs to update statements from the other accounts. Even someone who works for the DWP has posted and said as much.

Not declaring everything whilst claiming any benefits is fraud

Not declaring everything whilst claiming any benefits is fraud

So she shows them the bank statements that shows it is CM, which does not affect benefits, and the fact they are mostly empty anyway so not hidden savings. You do not have to declare CM at all.
So she gets the statements and shows them. It is all fine.
No fraud has been committed. This has been explained several times. There have been a few posters here who have done the same.... forgot to declare an account and nothing happened. They updated their details and everyone got on with their day.

You get asked about bank accounts when you sign up, prepare for them to request further back statements to check things through.

I'd get all statements printed off for as far back as I could get ... in readiness to hand over

There are no savings, it is all spent every month.
I am sick with worry and cannot wait to get this all above board.

Should I write a statement to put with the bank statements?

Op, don’t listen to these horrible people scaring you. I work but we get some help from UC. They know about bank accounts you have even if you don’t tell them. I have a few accounts, no money really goes into them, it’s just for transferring etc. when they asked for our statements, they saw the other accounts where I’d transferred money from one to another, they asked for the statements for them, I sent them, it was fine. Just send them, and say “I know you disregard maintenance payments, but I’ve included all my accounts regardless to be transparent, as it’s easier for me to keep track of child maintenance this way”. It will be fine, you have NOT committed fraud, as you haven’t had money you’re not entitled to. Please rest easy and don’t listen to these witches, they’re just annoyed they work and don’t get benefits which they should count themselves lucky they don’t rely on.

Serpentstooth · 13/12/2025 18:04

Yes, you have. Better declare it ASAP.

They ask for the details of the bank you want your payment to go in. At the review, she'll be able to add her other bank accounts.

She isn't stealing anything.

Tuesdayschild50 · 13/12/2025 18:08

Hey hun
Child maintenance isn't counted as income when claiming universal credit .
So you tell the truth you haven't done anything wrong and certainly isn't fraud they will have bigger fish to fry don't worry x

The money in those account is CM and does not affect her benefits anyway. She is not stealing anything, and she wont get into trouble.

ForKandles84 · 13/12/2025 18:09

If money moves between accounts they will question where the money comes from and you will need to show it in your statements..it's best to declare all statements. They will interview you and ask what some of the transactions are.

snoopythebeagle · 12/12/2025 12:28

Yes, this is benefit fraud and hopefully they throw the book at you for it.

Don't be pathetic child maintenance isn't taken into account when receiving UC .
What a horrible bitter comment .

What a silly and spiteful thing to say. Child maintenance does not affect your UC, it is disregarded income. And though OP should have declared all accounts, her benefits entitlement will be the same. I can understand why she might think she didn't need to declare it as its disregarded anyway.

Tuesdayschild50 · 13/12/2025 18:12

Boxedin2431 · 12/12/2025 12:29

I thought that child maintenance was disregarded.
Will I get into trouble for this? There are no savings, every penny is spent every month.

It is disregarded ... take no notice of the bitter and twisted on here.x

Don't worry tell them the truth you thought maintenance was a separate thing. Tell them your really sorry and didn't think you were going to get into bother. It's like, say you had 6.000 to 10.000 in the bank accounts such as savings Never touched it. I believe they don't take this into account when your claiming. But they would want you to tell them what you got.
Look on turn to me and put in everything you get and see what you'd get from the dss..
Maybe you'd be surprised that you're going to be ok
You'll always get people that love to frighten you..
Your on your own with kids and I can see your scared.
Send in bank account details. 4 months each for each one of them. See what they come back with.
Good luck

AlltheJs · 13/12/2025 18:23

Seems like you are making a deliberate attempt to mis-declare your financial situation. sounds pretty off to me.

hcee19 · 13/12/2025 18:27

You need to declare everything, you need to be open and transparent. They can do a search on you and if you are shown to be dishonest you will be prosecuted, as you hide assets. Honesty is always best, you will never be worried about a letter dropping through your letter box. Generally child support does not affect U.C., but even if you are found to be concealing money you quite possibly could be giving yourself sleepless nights, it isn't worth it....

Boxedin2431 · 12/12/2025 12:32

What will happen do you think? It is child maintenance paid every month, the same amount, from my children’s dad.

They will just update the accounts. Child maintenance is not taken into consideration for UC. You should be ok x

SpiritOfEcstasy · 13/12/2025 18:27

Wow. Some Mums really want to pile it on!!! Yes OP you ought to have declared the accounts … but essentially child support is disregarded so it shouldn’t make a difference to your payments. The Mums saying ‘I hope they throw the book at you’, ‘possibly a criminal conviction’ etc I hope you’re all warm and cosy in your glass houses…

Kerensa70 · 13/12/2025 18:29

Yes you have and it reads that you misrepresented your financial position to gain more money. Friggin annoying tbh

Probably jealous as they maybe don’t get UC themselves. It’s a fact that maintenance is not taken into consideration for UC

I can’t imagine any other reason why they’d be so hateful 🤷🏼‍♀️ The OP is aware she should have declared the other two accounts Ana she’s worried. Women who stick the boot in when other women are on the floor have no luck.

She is not hiding assets. CM does not affect UC. She has said the accounts end up empty every month.

All she needs to do is tell them about the accounts and upload the statements. She wont get into trouble.

How?
CM is not taken into account when calculated UC and she does not have savings.

Catandmousemam · 13/12/2025 18:35

As has been stated you need to declare ALL Bank Accounts/Monies you have to the DWP
