I can’t believe I’m asking this!

I asked my partner for some more ideas for stocking fillers for our 8 & 9 year olds. He mentioned new toothbrushes. I said oh actually I was thinking of getting them electric ones so we just change the heads. He said no and that he has stabbed hhimselfin the face by his eye when the head has came off the toothbrush of his electric one. I was bewildered and said how on earth does that even happen?! He’s the processed to say I’m argumentative and if I buy the kids one and they stab themselves in the eye when the head comes off it’s all my fault. In my 36 years of life and using one. That has never happened. Am I right in thinking WTF?!

Never would have pegged electric toothbrushes FOR THE WIN as a stocking filler. Everyday's a school day though ... Grin

Braygirlnow · 20/12/2025 18:47

Your husband is being ridiculous. Get them electric toothbrushes and get your husband a manual baby's brush...😆

Francestein · 12/12/2025 00:15

If my husband said something like this, he would never live this down. I would wait until we’re were eating with his family and ask him to pass his plate over so I could cut up his food. When he looked baffled, I would say “You stabbed yourself in the eye with your toothbrush. You know you can’t be trusted to wield cutlery without hurting yourself.” I’d even have some baby cutlery on hand to give him.

😭 I'm dying! 😂😂😂

Oh, no darling. Give me your plate. Let Francestein do it for you. Don't want you to poke your eye out. 😂

Cue bewildered looks.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/12/2025 18:49

@flowerbiithc please put various plasters, PPE and a manual toothbrush in you dh's Christmas stocking. 🙏😂

SShelby · 20/12/2025 19:06

Ngl, but if this was a thing I’d be buying the BD one of theses for Xmas 😂 unfortunately it’s not!!

I mean if that did happen to him he’s doing something wrong 😂😂😂

Abracadabrador · 11/12/2025 00:06

Free yourself of your boyfriend, as the best stocking filler ever.
Your kids will thrive not having some male in their home who thinks women are 'cunts'.

I hope you feel better and next year you'll be telling us all about looking forward to your first christmas without that deadweight of an ex! Hope the kids enjoy their toothbrushes x

KitFox · 20/12/2025 19:25

I presume he's happy with them using a metal fork!

Fluffypiki · 20/12/2025 19:26

I am neuro divergent and electric toothbrush scares me to death, the kids are absolutely forbidden from leaving them without the head.i use them because they clean very well but every time I look at them, I have loads of intrusive thoughts.
I get what he means but they really do clean teeth very well😔.

Yelrab · 20/12/2025 19:30

What a horrible stocking filler for a child! Perhaps the children could give toothbrushes to their parents for next Christmas!

SapphireSeptember · 20/12/2025 19:34

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 10/12/2025 21:46

Does he mean he had hold of it pulling the head off, it was stuck but then came off suddenly and he effectively punched himself in the face holding the head? In which case he's a bit of a twit.

Or was he an innocent victim of a toothbrush with aspirations to be a nerf gun when it grows up?!

😆😅😂🤣 That last line properly got me, not gonna lie.

I've managed to get toothpaste in my eye, which stung like a bitch, but never managed to stab myself in the eye with my toothbrush.

chaosmaker · 20/12/2025 19:37

It gets turned on and off in my mouth, who wants toothpaste flying about everywhere. He's a weirdo, clearly.

tara66 · 20/12/2025 19:53

Please tell your DH that ''toothbrushes'' are on the suggestion list for items to make up charity Xmas gift boxes for very poor and deprived children in disaster areas around the world - I have done those boxes in the past so remember the toothbrushes!! Maybe he sees his children as very deprived?!

OogieBoogiO · 20/12/2025 20:13

My son pulled the head off and put it on backwards - now I can’t get it off. If I were to pull super hard I think I may stab myself, yes, in the face.

Either way, what does it matter if it is very likely to happen. You should listen to your husbands concern even if it’s not rational. You make it seem like he is lying.

flowerbiithc · 11/12/2025 01:35

Thankyou my love! The toothbrushes are arriving tomorrow!! Might ram them up his arse whilst he sleeps 😂 thank you for your kind words. Have a lovely Xmas 🎄

That would be a waste of two good toothbrushes, while I can understand how satisfying you’d find it @flowerbiithc 😬

SpunkyUser · 20/12/2025 20:49

Not so much the dangers of electric toothbrushes but as a child i would hate to get one in my christmas stocking.

PurpleFlower1983 · 20/12/2025 20:52

Every kid I know uses an electric toothbrush and I’m unaware of any eye injuries.

OccasionalHope · 20/12/2025 22:06

TBF they've inherited half his genes so maybe better safe than sorry :)

pilgrim13 · 20/12/2025 22:58

Of course OralB recommend them. They want your money.

Yakacm · 20/12/2025 23:56

You know what, I can see where he’s coming from, when I’ve changed the brush on mine I remember thinking, ooh pointy, I mean probably subconsciously, like it’s not like I have thought about it for more than a nanoseconds though, but still there’s definitely scope for an eye based injury. All that being said, I can’t see it happening much. It’s like those warnings on the cup when you buy coffee from McD, or why those eco friendly metal straws have a bend in them, those things exist because ppl can be stupid.

Yakacm · 21/12/2025 00:06

So, I just had a wee look online, just to see if there have been electric toothbrush accidents, and I found this.

…in 2010 the FDA released a warning about Oral B-CrossAction Power and PowerMAX brushes whose brush heads could also come loose and potentially choke the tooth brush user.

PingPongPippa · 21/12/2025 01:12

Ignore him.

Su9 · 21/12/2025 07:42

More importantly this sounds like gaslighting. Has he related in this blaming, non conversational, one-way style before? Look it up. Or is he just immature in his communication and way of seeing things, or similar? All the best

purpleygirl · 21/12/2025 10:08

I did actually look up accidents in the home with electric toothbrushes. There’s no mention of people stabbing themselves. It seems very strange. Is your husband DH just argumentative generally?

ScreamingBeans · 21/12/2025 15:27

Well anything could have your eye out really.

Imprudent handling of a piece of toast, tripping over the sofa and landing on a cushion button, the injudicious deployment of the remote control, a less than careful flipping of a magazine page... the world is full of objects just waiting to take your eye out.
