I can’t believe I’m asking this!

I asked my partner for some more ideas for stocking fillers for our 8 & 9 year olds. He mentioned new toothbrushes. I said oh actually I was thinking of getting them electric ones so we just change the heads. He said no and that he has stabbed hhimselfin the face by his eye when the head has came off the toothbrush of his electric one. I was bewildered and said how on earth does that even happen?! He’s the processed to say I’m argumentative and if I buy the kids one and they stab themselves in the eye when the head comes off it’s all my fault. In my 36 years of life and using one. That has never happened. Am I right in thinking WTF?!

You are lucky this trivia is all you have to worry about, I don’t mean unkindly just have a rethink 🫶

I suggest you have a reread of the OP's post where its clear that her husband calls her a Cunt on a regular basis and she is making plans to leave him and dont post unhelpful bullshit like this if you cant be arsed to actually read and comprehend an OP's comments.

I do mean that unkindly.

This is so funny. My kid has been using electric brush for years since was 3yrs old and never had an incident. I’ve used electric brushes for over 15 years. I’m really curious how he managed to stab himself so bad

Billybea · 12/12/2025 06:57

The heads only come off when you buy the cheap alternative heads online, trust me, I know this! 🤣
stick with the genuine replacements and it's fine.

ACynicalDad · 12/12/2025 07:02

We have one each so we don’t take the heads on and off. Means we can use a trial pack of heads that don’t quite fit properly my wife got given by a dentist with saves a packet, but also means they don’t loosen over time and the huge risk of blinding ourselves is reduced to something manageable.

This is true, the generic cheaper version of replacement brush heads don't fit oralb/braun very snuggly.

Does your child take off and replace the head twice a day though?

pollymere · 12/12/2025 08:03

Mine is nearly 20 and used an electric toothbrush from 3-18. They've never had any tooth decay... And despite being ripe for it, they've never stabbed themselves in the eye with it either.

tedibear · 12/12/2025 08:05

That’s an easy fix if that’s his concerns. An adult changes them. My kids have been using the oral b toothbrushes since they were about 2/3. I change the heads when I notice they need it. I think he’s also exaggerating just a little bit lol.

Yes but that is once every 3 months .. she's saying 1 handle between the two children so each will be changing heads twice a day

DarkwingDuk · 12/12/2025 10:04

In what universe has he managed that?!
Is his neck double jointed?! Perhaps if he wound it in he'd stop doing stupid things!

As for how he talks to you - I really hope you don't have daughters...or at least if you do he doesn't say things like this in front of them. Horrible to think they'll end up with someone who speaks to them that way because it's their 'normal'

What an idiot 🤣🤣

CrazyMare70 · 12/12/2025 13:24

Out of curiosity how does he cope with cutlery? Is every meal a finger buffet or is PPE standard issue to avoid any potential gouging accidents round the dining table?

Sorrynotsorry22 · 12/12/2025 13:29

Bought generic replacement toithbrushbheads once, it came off mid brush and I gagged on it ! Luckily managed to cough it out, lesson learned.

starfishmummy · 12/12/2025 13:47

He's bonkers!!
However Christmas stockings are supposed to be fun, so I find the idea of putting toothbrushes of whatever type in rather odd!!

(Yes I know some people have to put practical items in due to low income but if the OP can afford to consider electric toothbrushes, I assume that is not the case here).

AmyDudley · 12/12/2025 15:00

'stop brushing your teeth, you'll have someone's eye out'

said no parent ever to their child.

Nottodaythankyou123 · 12/12/2025 15:39

GrannyAchingsShepherdsHut · 10/12/2025 21:46

Does he mean he had hold of it pulling the head off, it was stuck but then came off suddenly and he effectively punched himself in the face holding the head? In which case he's a bit of a twit.

Or was he an innocent victim of a toothbrush with aspirations to be a nerf gun when it grows up?!

I have done this, it’s easier than you think but not a reason to be vehemently opposed to them!

Daftypants · 13/12/2025 16:54

What … ??? 🤪🤣 the only things I’ve poked myself in the eye with are the ends of my glasses ( rounded off plastic thank goodness) and mascara brushes.
never my electric toothbrush.
I take off the old head whenever it needs changed and I pop on a new one nowhere near my face ??
I wish these toothbrushes had been around when I was young , I’d have better teeth and not a bunch of fillings and crowns .

He obviously doesn’t care about his children’s teeth. I would not be taking advice from someone that can’t even put a head on a toothbrush properly.

RollOnSunshine · 20/12/2025 18:24

Do you let your husband out in public by himself?

ThatLilacTiger · 20/12/2025 18:26

What the fuck? Reminds me of Homer Simpson stabbing himself in the eye with a hotdog.

Daisybluebelle · 20/12/2025 18:27

Was he drunk at the time?
You could blame him if the kids end up with tooth decay…My kids have been using them for years.

Silvercoconut · 20/12/2025 18:31

Haha
I have PUNCHED myself in the eye whilst trying to change the head as it was on so tight, no chance of them flying off and landing in an eye 😃

ToadRage · 20/12/2025 18:36

How exactly does one stab themselves in the eye with a toothbrush? He is clearly an idiot. I didn't have an electric one as a child and my friends who did have them told me horror stories about loose baby teeth going flying across the bathroom. I have had an electric toothbrush most of my adulthood and my dentist reccomends oral b ones.

"he has stabbed hhimself in the face by his eye when the head has came off the toothbrush of his electric one"

Easily done. I understand King Harold did a very similar thing whilst twiddling an arrow, showing off to his mates.

Google woman dies from metal straw in eye
the most unlikely accidents happen, but I’ve never worried about my toothbrush…
