Youngest 28? Really. I just had my second I’m 24 and had my first when I was 16.

I was the youngest the first time but definitely not the second

MyIvyGrows · 09/12/2025 12:55

I was 35, youngest was 32 I think. Oldest was 39 as I remember her turning 40 when the babies were still v small. She had 3 under 4 eventually.

That is very young through to have children. 16 is still a child yourself.

I was the youngest in mine at 31 and the oldest was 43!

Justlostmybagel · 09/12/2025 13:00

Youngest 20, oldest 26. I was one of the 20 year olds.

Yes I was definitely the youngest with my first but not with my second at 24, lots of ladies in their early 20s

TheTaupeScroller · 09/12/2025 13:14

Youngest was 33, oldest was 41 if I remember correctly.

noramoo · 09/12/2025 13:19

I was the youngest at 28. Oldest was 40. Most 34-37. Fairly affluent London area.

Very different to mine - youngest was 28 and oldest 35. I was 30. Didn’t do NCT for my subsequent DCs but at school, all the parents were mid 30s and above at reception with some in their 40s. No parents in their 20s or very early 30s on the school run.

Frogbear · 09/12/2025 13:31

Oldest in mine was 38. Youngest was 29. I was 33, so very similar to you.

Interesting, at my dcs school there’s a lot of variation I thought I was the youngest until I found out another child’s parents were 15! But the child is being raised by grandparents as the parents want nothing to do with the poor child

I didn't attend any NCT classes in person but regularly attend baby groups with our 11-month-old now. When I first started going to groups, when she was tiny, I had feared I would be the oldest mum there, in my very late thirties, but I have found that I am pretty average. To my surprise, I don't think I've come across a single mum in my cohort under 34. I don't know if it's the area we live in or some other factor, but having a baby in your late thirties or early forties seems incredibly common round here. I suppose I shouldn't be too surprised, most of the women in my family, including my mum and grandma, kept having babies well into their forties. However, most of my friends with kids had them a few years ago, usually in their early 30s. The youngest of my friends to have a baby was 28 when she had her first. Oddly enough, having had had no new babies in our circle of friends for about three years, three of my friends, all older than me, had babies within a few months of me so maybe it's something in the water!

FunnysInLaJardin · 09/12/2025 13:58

depends entirely on your demographic!

Friendlyfart · 09/12/2025 14:03

I had DC at 30 in early 2000s - I was def the youngest.

Poor kid.
Out of my friends from my childhood, university and work, the youngest age for parenthood was 28 and oldest was 43y (wasn’t her first baby). All my cousins had their children in their 30s.
For parents on the school run it must be a local demographic thing. For the others, it is probably a case of birds of a feather.

elliejjtiny · 09/12/2025 14:07

Only did antenatal with older 2 but did baby groups with all 5. With eldest I was the youngest in antenatal classes but not by much. I was 24, most were mid to late 20's, oldest was mid thirties. Second baby i was 25, fairly average age i think. 3rd i was 28, I was older end of the middle. 4th I was 31, definitely one of the older ones. 5th i was 32. Was on the antenatal ward for a while before i had him and was the oldest by about 2 years. Most of the other mums were teenagers.

PurpleThistle7 · 09/12/2025 14:08

My daughter is 13 now but I remember that ours was 28-42 (I was 32 and remained friends with the 28 year old so still remember we were the babies!)

In my group of friends I was one of the first to have a baby. Most of my friends were more mid-30s or older.

The question was about NCT groups though, which tend to be a middle class thing, often skewing older because women in the target demographic tend to have kids later in life. Youngest in mine was 28 too, most were mid 30s

Overthebow · 09/12/2025 14:10

Youngest was 27 and oldest was 38. I was 32. I didn’t got to NCT when pregnant with my second.

The average age to have a baby in the UK is 31 currently so it isn’t that surprising.

I did attend a pre natal group and baby groups I don’t think I attended nct admittedly. I was the youngest with my first definitely not with my second (24) though

The average because there’s also a lot in their early 20s and late 40s so it evens out at 31

Early 40s not late

Rocketship003 · 09/12/2025 14:18

Out of 10 woman I was the youngest at 27. Oldest was early 40’s

Christmascaketime · 09/12/2025 14:21

My dc is a teen now but I was youngest in nct class at 30. It very much lived up to its middle class stereotype. All but one couple were married professionals.

Poorly3yrold · 09/12/2025 14:22

I was the oldest at 40, youngest was 30. Most mid 30s.
