To think this is really rude?

My flat is part of a larger building that currently has scaffolding up because the owners are having some work done. Late this morning (around 11.45), I heard the builders showing the owners around. My curtains were closed, but they could probably tell I was still in bed.

I then heard the woman mutter “what a lazy girl” and “get a job!” as they went past. I assume because she saw me lying down.
For context (not that I should have to explain), I’m an adult with a full-time professional job and I simply had the day off today.

I’m honestly fuming. I work hard, earn a good salary and live in a nice flat. The cheek of her making comments like that about a stranger!

You could have been a nightshift worker, people shouldn't judge.

JacknDiane · 02/12/2025 12:22

Am confused. How did they see you, how did you hear them??

Wtfisgoingin · 02/12/2025 12:23

My window was open and my the bottom part of my blinds were open. I assumed they couldn’t see my but I’m guessing they could from the angle. They were very near my window so it felt quite intrusive.

Well they wouldn’t be getting a cup of sugar from me.

Are they on your floor? Never take in a parcel for them and give them the death stare whenever you bump into them in the hall.

W0tnow · 02/12/2025 12:24

I’d be (probably irrationally) irate at that.

Wtfisgoingin · 02/12/2025 12:25

No sadly they’re in a different building so I’ve never met them! I’m fuming though

Imicola · 02/12/2025 12:25

We're they on scaffolding, or is your flat ground level? Not that it makes much difference, they were incredibly rude and if I was in your position i probably would have loudly told them to fuck off.

Howtogetthrough · 02/12/2025 12:25

I'm reading this lying in bed. Because I'm not well.

There could have been a lot of very valid reasons why you were in bed at that time.

Or it could simply be because it was your day off and you were in your own home, and you just felt like lying in bed. Nobody else's business but your own.

So yes it was a rude, uncalled for comment. Just ignore it OP.

Wtfisgoingin · 02/12/2025 12:26

They were on scaffolding so it felt incredibly intrusive. My flat is pretty high up and they were feet away from my bedroom window

That's horrible, a total invasion of privacy.

Sartre · 02/12/2025 12:28

Awful and it further shows a complete lack of critical thought. People work shifts, have days off, get sick etc. Total fools.

Next time they’re back, call them out on it.

youalright · 02/12/2025 12:29

The builders took them up the scaffolding

Probably property flippers.

caramac04 · 02/12/2025 12:31

I’d have shouted well you’re not at work love so fuck off!

SecretSquirrelLoo · 02/12/2025 12:31

Tomorrow you’ll be back at work, whereas that woman will still be an idiot. Enjoy the rest of your day off!

StrawberrySquash · 02/12/2025 12:37

It's the sort of thing one might say half in jest when you forget you might be overheard. I say that as someone who lounged around in bed to a similar hour when I had a day off last week. And I was having a nice lazy morning TBH!

Muffsies · 02/12/2025 12:38

People are getting increasingly more rude and judgemental. It shows a lack of humility and reasoned thinking. Typical dumb-arses who like to feel superior by putting others down (even when completely in the wrong).

Ironically they are the ones bringing society down with their idiot attitudes.

Wh7ly dont you go and find them and give thmm a piece of your mind. It will teach them a lesson.

isitmytime · 02/12/2025 12:54

I don’t think I would have been able to stop myself opening the blinds properly and saying “you never heard of a day off” the cheek.
I’d also be fuming for the rest of the day!

toomuchfaff · 02/12/2025 13:34

YABU to give a shit what a passing stranger said.

Just get on with your day knowing that person lives a stress ridden life due to their own involvement in everybody elses business.

id even think of ways to perpetuate it so she proper loses her shit, Let her...

Smacks of jealousy to me! Ignore and live your best life, lie ins and days off are allowed the cheeky mare 😂

StruggleFlourish · 02/12/2025 23:23

Whoever said this, the female owner, or otherwise, is an arse.
There's a dozen reasons why at nearly noon you could be in bed.
She was just being a judgy Ms Judgy-pants.
Pay no mind,

ScottishFi · 02/12/2025 23:26

I know you should probably rise above it but are you not just a wee bit tempted to put a notice in your window for next time the builders are showing them their work?! Something along the lines of 'to the person who I heard saying I was 'lazy' on my day off - I am at work today but you are still an idiot' (comment influenced by a previous comment on your post) 😁

Arlanymor · 02/12/2025 23:27

Still not sure how they could see you, but I would have just responded: "It's my day off and none of your business thanks!" VERY LOUDLY.

Then I wouldn't give it another moment's thought. What idiots. Who honestly cares what they think? No one. There are heaps of reasons why someone might be in bed later in the day.
