How often do you bake?

Just being nosey really.

I probably bake something once or twice a week like flat breads or cheese scones. But that’s more out of necessity.

I probably bake as a hobby and for actual enjoyment once a month. Trying to stick to a calorie deficit so possible would bake more if I had an ounce of will.

How about you?

If you call a bread maker baking every day

landlordhell · 23/11/2025 19:38

Once every few months. Not really a cake person. I will always make our immediate family birthday cakes though and an occasional banana bread if we have to use bananas up. Not very sweet toothed but do cook every day.

Giraffe888 · 23/11/2025 19:40

@StinkerTroll what flapjack recipe do you use? I never get it quite right

Rarely. I'm not the best baker of cakes...but I make a mean chocolate brownie. Sadly I worked out they have 650+ calories per square, so I only make them once in a blue moon.

However, I am chief consumer of cakes. 🍰

Holy moly - I genuinely thought you must mean a massive slab of brownie for those calories. Then I worked out the calorific value of the ones I make. Because I cut them really small I genuinely thought they were about 150 calories a square - turns out they are 450! And they are so small! It explains a lot 😂

TangerinePlate · 23/11/2025 19:49

Quite often

Sourdough bread
Pizza/focaccia/garlic bread
Brioche
Sweet rolls/buns(with filling)
Cakes(love cheesecakes especially with mousse in all sort of flavours)
Sponge cakes with different fillings
Crumbles
Muffins
Bundt cakes
Carrot cake

Apple cakes at the moment, will switch over soon to gingerbread and poppy seed roulade

Mind you I come from Central Europe so baking in my country of origin is a bit different

Emmz1510 · 23/11/2025 19:50

Less often than I’d like. I enjoy baking and in another universe I could make quite a hobby of it. But I struggle too much with my weight and it’s too much temptation for me.

I can’t sympathise, I recently made cupcakes for my daughter’s birthday party. The cupcakes required scooping out a hole. All the excess sponge ended up in my gob. Ridiculous behaviour. I’ve lost 30 pounds and that was the first time where I’ve gained in ages.

I never bake - for some daft reason I dislike that word!

Now and then I will ‘make’ a cake, but usually only when guests are coming. If it was a regular thing, dh and I would be fat as pigs.

I will soon be making dozens of mince pies to take to a big family gathering, though.

GetOverTheEgo · 23/11/2025 21:06

I meant to bake today based on this thread, Then forgot.

Not as much as I'd like.

But when I do bake I then go crazy. Fill the freezer with scones and flapjacks and cookies.

I used to subscribe to Baked In which was brilliant. Shame they went bust!

mamagogo1 · 23/11/2025 21:14

I make flatbreads every week/twice a week but they are pan fried. I try not to bake cakes unless we guests for waist circumference reasons!

JFC how big are you cutting them? Or what are you putting in them? I use Sally’s Baking Adfiction recipe for the “seriously fudgey brownies”. In an 8x8 pan, cut into 2x2 squares. They are around 280 calories. I bake them weekly for our local community coffee morning.

Girasoli · 23/11/2025 21:16

Every couple of weeks - I enjoy it. I don't always bake for us though, I also make cupcakes/a sponge etc. for church or school/work or if we are visiting friends.

I'd love to do a patisserie course (for fun)

pumpkinscake · 23/11/2025 21:16

I like baking and love eating home baked goodies, but as a post menopausal woman sadly have to watch what I eat. So not as often as I'd like is probably the right answer

Girasoli · 23/11/2025 21:17

Ooh or maybe a course to learn to make fancy bread

DarkEyedSailor · 23/11/2025 21:20

Bread 3 times a week, a cake once a week. Today I made a coconut flapjack.

SnoworRainbow · 23/11/2025 21:36

Rainy days in half term with my son. Otherwise I never would.

Radionowhere · 23/11/2025 21:39

Rarely. I'd get fat if I baked regularly. That's as good an excuse as any 😆

PenCreed · 23/11/2025 21:41

I‘m a decent baker but it’s just DH and me in the house so i only bake for guests. I don’t have the time to do it more often! I do enjoy it though.

Changename12 · 22/11/2025 13:48

Not very often, probably about 4 or 5 times a year. Apart from bread, which stops you buying UPF bread in the supermarket, baked goods are not really good for you.

Baked goods are only not good for you if they are all full of sugar and eaten in one sitting and personally I would NEVER eat a 1/4 of a brownie traybake. Complete with whipped cream.😊
At least with home baked you know exactly what is going into them and hence exactly what you are eating.

Dh bakes all our breads, several times a week. He bakes everything, rolls, soda bread, porridge bread, etc.
I bake several times a week also, including a lot of breakfast and lunchbox foods such as scones, flapjacks, muffins and pancakes and try and use as much fruit and vegetable substitutes to add sweetness as possible.
We also have plenty of not so healthy goodies but all in moderation.
I love baking and find it very therapeutic.

Barney16 · 23/11/2025 21:50

Often because it feels like it's 1973 and I'm turning into my mother. Brownies, muffins, cake, puddings, biscuits. I bloody love sweet stuff and I have gone low UPF. I bake and freeze half. Tomorrow I'm making an apple and blackberry crumble. Sadly that's likely to be the highlight of my week 🙂

At 1.5” squares mine are 450 calories! Ingredients: equal quantities of butter, sugar, eggs, and chocolate. Pinch of salt. So tasty though!
