How often do you bake?

Just being nosey really.

I probably bake something once or twice a week like flat breads or cheese scones. But that’s more out of necessity.

I probably bake as a hobby and for actual enjoyment once a month. Trying to stick to a calorie deficit so possible would bake more if I had an ounce of will.

How about you?

I work with children so bake at least once a week with them. The child in question loves baking & will eat it while we're together but doesn't ever want to take it home, so it's down to me. Perks of the job!

Depends how stressed I am.

I struggle with anxiety and have always "anxiety baked" to help soothe my mind when I'm anxious. I adore baking and the ritual of it helps detach me from negative feelings.

So if I'm having a normal, good week I'll bake a couple of times a week. Bread at the start of the week, maybe croissants or some other kind of pastry for weekend breakfasts.

If I'm stressed you'll find me making Baklava and my fifth batch of cookies at 4am and everyone in my office will be enjoying lots of baked goods as I make too much for just my small household 🙃

I can relate to this. If I’m moderately anxious, I often bake because it helps me relax. If I’m extremely anxious, I can’t face it at all though. I have rage baked a few times🤣 There will be aggressive mixing and a bit of slamming and banging and at the end of it I have a cake or a fruit loaf to reward myself. Not scones though as they need to be treated with peace and love!

DiscoBeat · 22/11/2025 13:33

At least twice a week, usually more. I make a cake every week and usually cookies or similar, bread every few days.

Northquit · 22/11/2025 13:37

Not baking but I made fudge last week. It was delicious. We have the ingredients to make it again.

Luckyingame · 22/11/2025 13:38

Rarely to never.

Wow! What sort of things? How many of you are eating it?

Several people at home eating, but I also give baked goods to others as well.

A typical week:

  • biscuits
  • something 'heartier' for after hobbies (like a healthy flapjack, or a muffin)
  • a couple of savoury snacks in (scones, sausage rolls, cheese straws etc)
  • a 'proper treat'. A cake, a sweet loaf, an old school pudding (chocolate concrete...) or something like a crumble...

If we're having bread as an accompaniment to something, I try and bake that as well depending on what our week looks like.

I have young children and I like knowing what is going into their food.

Not very often, probably about 4 or 5 times a year. Apart from bread, which stops you buying UPF bread in the supermarket, baked goods are not really good for you.

LilacBlues · 22/11/2025 13:55

About once a week to keep me supplied with cake. I'm the only one who eats it so it lasts well.
When DC were at home it was a lot more, bread, cake, flapjacks, brownies.

sweetsardineface · 22/11/2025 13:59

Bread 3 or 4 times a week. I love baking.

Croolo · 22/11/2025 14:07

I absolutely despise bread or anything I need to properly need to knead/get into. Drives me mad.

Cake isn’t good for you?

Rarely!

Baking isn't my forte unfortunately. I also don't really have much of a sweet tooth for things like cakes, so just can't be bothered. The kids are the same. They'd much rather have a bag of crisps than a cake. The rare occasion we do fancy a sweet baked treat, I'll just buy it from the shop. There's a farm shop near me that does lovely cakes.

I do bake the occasional banana bread, maybe twice a year. I've tried baking regular bread, but I don't have much luck with it, nor the patience to try and improve.

Cynic17 · 22/11/2025 14:18

I think I last baked something when I was about 14. I'm now 60 😂

Ineffable23 · 22/11/2025 14:20

I don't bake very often any more because I just eat it and I need to lose weight, not gain weight.

I go through phases of making my own bread or baking particular things and in those phases I bake a couple of times a week. I used to bake more often when I worked in the office regularly.

I can't knead bread due to arthritis and I find food processors / mixers struggle. I use a breadmaker to mix and knead then I tip it out and make into rolls or a loaf.

Chazbots · 22/11/2025 15:59

I make an overnight foccacia as my bread, no kneading, mix of flours. Crumble, cake, whatever, I do like a pudding and my DH turns sideways and disappears, more so if I'm not baking.

I was very pleased recently as made some half-decent vegan cakes/muffins for my hobby chums.

Rescuedogblues · 22/11/2025 16:01

Few times a week, cookies, cake, biscuits, home made pizza, easy air frier donuts, I mostly cook from scratch too

ChubbyPuffling · 22/11/2025 16:12

Our local independent bakers sells packet mixes for a breadmaker - their own recipe - pour it in, add oil, add water, let the machine do its job.

So I guess it depends on your definition of baking. 😆

HeadyLamarr · 22/11/2025 16:26

Like @JudgeBread I used to stress-bake, so all the damned time when we had 3 young children and DP's job moved so he was away 4 days a week. We couldn't eat it all because I used to make so many cakes, biscuits, loaves etc.

Several times a week when the kids were young. Once or twice a month now they're adults.

Obviously now is an exception as from here until Christmas there's a lot of festive baking going on.

StinkerTroll · 23/11/2025 19:22

Once a week term time, I bake something for lunch boxes, flap jack this week

Skyflymom · 23/11/2025 19:27

I work away a lot but If I'm home I usually bake daily. Stuff gets sliced up and popped in the freezer for when I'm working away so hubby and son have cakes/treats/bread etc they can just take out as and when they need it. Sourdough, cakes, cookies, brownies that sort of stuff.

Perplexin · 23/11/2025 19:33

Never, my Mum is a professional Baker so she does it all for me 😂

SapphireOpal · 23/11/2025 19:36

Once a week. Usually bake cake or brownies or similar while I'm making the Sunday roast, for snacks/puddings through the week. My DP can't eat dairy or gluten so bought stuff is eye wateringly expensive and not always available. I do enjoy it but it's to keep costs down really.

TwooooDoooozenRoses · 23/11/2025 19:36

Once a week, sometimes twice. Sundays are for roast dinners and for baking, in my opinion! I tend to do a cake and another sweet option on a Sunday and just whatever I fancy otherwise. We employ a few people and so I tend to put the cake (whatever’s left 😂 ) in the grub room for them on the Monday.

HansHolbein · 23/11/2025 19:37

Once or twice a week for sweet stuff. I make bread every 2-3 days.
