I asked DH to get salted crisps from the shop today. He came back with salt & vinegar ones. When I asked why, he said it’s what I’d asked for and that if I’d wanted salted ones, I should’ve said “ready salted.” 😂

If you were asked to get salted crisps, would you buy salt & vinegar or ready salted ones? 😂

I would buy ready salted.

I hate salt and vinegar crisps!

DrFoxtrot · 09/11/2025 18:41

I would buy ready salted but you did phrase it weirdly. I agree you should have said ready salted 😆

QueenClinomania · 09/11/2025 18:42

If you don't say vinegar, you won't want vinegar!!

CarefullyCuratedFurniture · 09/11/2025 18:45

Hes a twit. Obviously "salted" means ordinary ready salted. If you'd said "plain", would he have come back with a sliced-up potato?

Nellieinthebarn · 09/11/2025 18:47

I always say plain for ready salted, but you are not being unreasonable as I am sure you will have mentioned that you don't like salt and vinegar before now. The only solution is to LTB!!!

dizzydizzydizzy · 09/11/2025 23:42

I would assume it meant any flavour that involves salt. I would also say you should have asked for ready salted.

Talipesmum · 09/11/2025 23:51

If someone said “salted” crisps my brain could equally go either for salt and vinegar, or ready salted. I never ever call ready salted crisps just “salted” - I’d say ready salted or plain. So I think you were being unclear and not saying a real flavour.

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 09/11/2025 23:57

I've never heard anyone call Ready Salted just "salted" - they either say the plain or the original or Ready Salted

If someone said "salted crisps" I'd probably ask them to confirm if they mean Ready salted or salt and vinegar tbh

Contemporaneouslyagog · 10/11/2025 00:00

I think my DH would struggle with interpreting that request , he'd probably phone for clarification or give up and come home empty handed

LimeSqueezer · 10/11/2025 00:04

I think he was just giving you the benefit of the doubt. He seems to have better taste in crisps than you. Count yourself lucky!

I would obviously only buy S&V because I like my crisps to be tasty.

BillieWiper · 10/11/2025 00:11

He calls salt and vinegar crisps 'salted'?! Yeah right. He just didn't listen properly or was having some bizarre personal crisis.

Like Skinner from Simpsons calling Krustyburgers 'steamed hams'?!

FetchezLaVache · 10/11/2025 00:13

I can empathise, as I asked DH for peanuts in the pub this afternoon and he came back with some kind of sweet and spicy coated monstrosities. Back to the bar he was sent. You need to nip this kind of behaviour in the bud.

Well this, obviously, but you did describe the crisps you wanted accurately.

It’s just they are awful.

RedFlagsAllOver · 10/11/2025 00:26

I once asked my son if he could pick me up some crisps, anything but salt and vinegar.
He got salt and vinegar.. he heard that and blanked out everything else.

sweeneytoddsrazor · 10/11/2025 01:05

I would have double checked. Have never heard anyone call them salted before. Always plain or ready salted

AutumnLeavesFallingFast · 10/11/2025 01:12

I don't think I've ever heard anyone call them 'salted', just 'plain' 🤣

but surely he knows you eat them & don't like S&V (you weirdo!!🤣)

HoppityBun · 10/11/2025 01:12

What does he think the “ready” means? There are no crisps that are salted but not “ready” salted. It’s not possible. Ready salted means already salted as opposed to plain. It means they’ve added the salt for you.

Hmm... it's only just occurred to me that the term "ready salted" must date back to the dim distant days of my childhood as the salt used to come separately in a twist of blue paper inside the crisp packet.

PyongyangKipperbang · 10/11/2025 01:59

Ask him if he knows where the name "Ready Salted" comes from. I will bet a tenner that he doesnt!

chattyness · 10/11/2025 02:30

I would have bought ready salted automatically. You don't say "salted and vinegar" do you it's "salt & " plus you didn't say vinegar did you. He's a numpty.

Topseyt123 · 10/11/2025 02:40

I think you phrased it strangely and I'd have been surprised by that. I suppose it should have been pretty clear though as you didn't mention vinegar at all.

It would have been clearer and beyond doubt if you had said ready salted.

It could’ve been worse, he could’ve got you scampi fries 🤮!

Nopersbro · 10/11/2025 03:03

I would have assumed that "salted crisps" meant plain (no additional/specific flavour added) crisps that are NOT low sodium or sodium free and are not the kind with the little bag of salt to add yourself (if they even still make those). So yeah, Ready Salted would qualify. Salt & Vinegar is a specific flavour.

They do still do the salt n shake! Love them!

mondaytosunday · 10/11/2025 05:46

I think I would have said ‘regular crisps’ - I’ve never called them ‘ready salted’. but agree salted crisps are not the same as salt and vinegar.
