Would NASA tell us about aliens?

CrossCountryWoosh · 27/10/2025 08:12

To be clear I dont believe the Big 3I/ATLAS conspiracies. I dont know enough about comets or space (or aliens) to say much but NASA's explanations make sense to me. Then again, if they were lying that is what they'd count on people thinking!

But it has got me wondering. Do you think NASA would tell us if it was aliens? With the rise of amateur astronomers and the ability for easier research (proper and via facebook) and more ways of telling people about it, would they find it harder to hide things like this?

All the "alien encouter" stories I know of (admittedly not many) seem to be difficult to collaborate eg someone says they are abducted but no one else saw it or an RAF pilot sees something when he is flying solo. But this is world wide and harder to hide from the masses.

They told people about 2024 YR4 while only 3(?) 🔭 telescopes could see it.

For those who dont know, Big 3I/ATLAS is an object that has come from a different galaxy. It is due to go past the sun on Wednesday. Some people are saying it is alien space craft because of it's size, it's behaviour eg inconsistant speed and route and it's tail being odd. Plus it looks like a bit has broken away which some are saying is a scout ship. NASA are saying it's an object from another galaxy so might be a bit odd but the route is just luck, the speed isnt unusual and the tail is due to it getting hot as it gets to the sun.

As an aside - I kind of feel a bit sad that technology, particularly mobiles, have destroyed a good comspiracy theory story. Nowadays the strongest argument against someone seeing an alien/fairies/ghost/Nessie/Big Foot is the lack of decent photographic evidence.

But they ARE the aliens! 👽

(So someone at work told us)

didntlikeanyofthesuggestions · 27/10/2025 08:16

Yeah, I'm sure they would. We've shown we can be sensible and trusted with that kind of information.

Im not sure they would do an official announcement but I reckon there would be people who worked for nasa who would share the info.

Kitchenbattle · 27/10/2025 08:25

I don’t know whether they would tell us or not, but one thing I do know is that if it is an alien spaceship they will have no interest or need in us. If they have a spaceship are capable of travel, they are so far in advancement that we are the equivalent of dirt on their shoe. I imagine there is nothing we can offer them so they will pass us by.

Is that like saying we shouldnt research gnats though?

And there is always the story that they just want to plunder the planet which seems to be the basis for many films!

Im not sure that all the energy, money and time we spend on space stuff couldn't be better used on Earth. Sure, there are some things that have been developed by space reseach/exploration but I'm fairly sure that given the same resources they wouldnt have been developed anyway.

We have a stable environment. The Trisolarans are desperate for our planet as their three suns make their planet totally unstable ...

Seeing as we experiment upon fruit flies all the time in order to find information that's useful to us, I wouldn't be so sure.

And I can't see how it would benefit fruit flies to know they're going to be experimented upon (what could they do abou it?), there's no point for humans to know, either.

I do love conspiracy theories when they don't hurt anybody else...

A lot of modern ones target individuals dont they. I feel down a habit hole the other day about red shoes. I mean WTF?! I was literally just looking for some red shoes and suddenly I was reading about Maddie McCann.

Well I wouldn’t want to be the gnat that’s for sure. But what’s to say they haven’t been here before and seen what they wanted to see…they would probably look out the window while passing and say “ oh look at those little earthlings…they’ve still not figured out how to travel through space properly”

Somersetbaker · 27/10/2025 09:00

Bloody hell, we've got enough problems with illegal immigrants from France, now they're coming from another galaxy. Maybe Trump can build a "big beautiful wall".

ELO10538 · 27/10/2025 09:01

Of course they would.
Congress would double their budget overnight.

MidlandsGal1 · 27/10/2025 09:05

First I’ve heard of this so I will immediately go down a rabbit hole, I do love a good conspiracy theory!

Personally I think if evidence of aliens was discovered, officials would try to keep it covered up. The general public can’t be trusted with that kind of information.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 27/10/2025 09:14

Following with interest.

Open minded sceptic here.

Personally I think if it was genuinely aliens, we'd be kept in the mushroom club However, if the idea of aliens could be monetised and leveraged as a power play, we'd know all about the potential "threat". Project Bluebeam was one theory along these lines, however, the juries out on how credible the sources are, so who knows.

Nothing much would surprise me these days, so I just lay in extra popcorn and enjoy the show.....

TalulahJP · 27/10/2025 09:30

i think nobody would tell us until they had to. We cant handle the truth!

The aliens have been around for centuries. We are an experiment. They need to keep us under control when we start pissing about with nuclear technology as they cannot allow us to kill ourselves and will intervene. They are always watching.

Over the years there have been big jumps in technology. Im sure that’s been alien help. We were too thick to work it out ourselves.

And back in the day of the moon landings, the astronauts definitely saw something in the dark side of the moon and also when their own expelled urine droplets allegedly went past the window and the astronauts said no they arent as these are moving differently, and the convo was quickly shut down to us and continued on a private channel so we couldn’t hear.

We’ve been being prepared for decades. But they still won’t tell us the full truth.

Weather balloon yada yada. Sure. Whatever you say. Weather balloon uh-huh.

In fairness the huge leaps in tech does blow in mind. The obvious one is mobiles. The fact Im only in my 40s and we've gone from faxes and books and not having even heard of the Internet to smart phones is mad and couldnt have been predicted. As is the uptake of them when you think about it.

NASAs job isn't really to tell us about aliens. They are focussed on spaceflight and aeronautics, not aliens. Although as a organisation it may have the necessary expertise to investigate such things.

Reports of aliens are on the increase. Or at least UFOs, which have been renamed "UAPs" to try to distance them from the whole UFO debate.

I think these reports are on the increase because sensor technology is improving rapidly, and multi spectral imaging is allowing a lot more pictures of usual phenomena to be obtained and this raises questions of what they actually are (currently no one seems to know).

I think the authorities who are responsible for investigating these things are reluctant to reveal details for two reasons. One is that it might reveal the capabilities of the sensor equipment that is tracking them, which is a secret of national importance to protect countries from their enemies. The second is that to say there is a potential threat that they do not know what it is and cannot stop has fairly serious implications for their jobs and whether they are doing them and can actually ever do them to a level that satisfies the public. Easier to just ignore the whole thing and hope it goes away.

Anyway, the elected powers that be in the US appear to be taking an increasing interest in this and over time more and more information is being revealed. I expect sometime in the next 10 years we might see something of real interest released to the public, as opposed to the snippets we get at the moment.

Maybe we're a bunch of illegals in their patch of space and they didnt bother us when we were just a handful of apes that had evolved from some intruding chemicals from outside their sector, but we're now seen as a potential threat due to the assorted satellites, probes and craft buzzing around like wasps around a new nest, meaning we're just a few steps away from getting on our small ships to overpopulate/invade/swarm to their planets and threaten their Rigellian Values?

Good point about not revealing secret technology. I dont think anyone would disagree that the military et al have a lot of secret tech and I guess they cant risk people finding out about .

Like the whole eating carrots to hide radar.

I also think that sometimes the intelligence agencies have to let "bad things" happen so they can protect wider intelligence. There are a few instances where I something was allowed to happen for the sake of the wider good. I wont go into what though because that is disrespectful to the people affected.

I just take it as a given that aliens exist.

Given how inconceivably large the universe is, how many billions of galaxies and solar systems there are, I think it's far more likely that there is life on other planets than not. I think it would be quite arrogant to assume there isn't.

I'm not sure they'd have the technology to reach us any more than we have the technology to reach them though.

When you look at some of the creatures on this planet, including those which live in the deepest parts of the ocean, I would be fascinated to know how life had evolved differently on another planet!
