Neighbour being a CF when looking at our loft conversion?

Our house has a loft conversion and when I saw one of our neighbours on Tuesday walking back from the school drop off she asked if she could come in and look at it as she is considering the same and has a similar style house to ours.

Anyway, I said yes that’s fine but could she come on Wednesday after 5 as I was about to go to work. So she turns up bang on 5 and I took her up to show her the loft room.

She made a comment about how she’s glad she doesn’t live with a man anymore because you could tell one lived here by the smell (!), commented on the decor negatively and said she’d have gone with a different style in the en-suite! She then didn’t say thank you when she left.

I was being polite by letting her see it as it could have been helpful to her but I feel she was a complete CF?!

She was rude and tactless but I wouldn't take it to heart. I'm sure a lot of my decorating wouldn't be to someone else's taste but I like it so I don't care.

That is rude. Totally normal to want to have a look and see the space, but really rude to criticise and not say thank you.

If someone I was doing a favour for commented rudely on how my house smelled. I’d have politely showed them the door (and not the loft)

She’s jealous of your loft, your man, your house , anything. Jealous women can be very good at sticking the knife in to other women IME. Did she say anything about your loft?

She's very rude. It says nothing about you and a lot about her.

Just pity her for having to live as that person and resolve to politely be unavailable to help her with anything ever again.

CF stands for cheeky fucker - ie somebody who takes advantage/constantly wants favours/will ask you to watch their kid for an hour then disappear for 5.

So I don’t think she qualifies as a CF - she was just rude.

I’d have laughed at the ‘man smell’ comment as it’s so true - men bloody stink.

the decor comment wouldn’t have bothered me either, none of the women in my book group like my new paint job. They’ve literally all said how much they don’t like it. I just find it funny, it’s not to everyone’s taste (dark green in the study where we have the group)

Rude rather than CF.

This is why I do not bother with neighbours or allow them past my front door. The request would have got the response that I do not allow random people into my home.

She's jealous op, she didn't want to look at your loft particularly, just a snout round, cheeky bitch, steer clear and watch your husband, she's the type to have eyes on, despite her protestations otherwise.

What a rude cow. I would have been tempted to tell her that my house smelt better than her breath.

I've got a funny feeling that she'll get a builder lined up and ask to come and see your loft again/show him and you can take great pleasure in saying NO as you didn't appreciate her rude comments last time.

The good news is if she wants hers converting she will probably be back to ask for things like plans, what builders you used etc.

At which point you have the opportunity to refuse her and/or be derisory in return.

For example :

"yes I would give you the plans, but I don't think you can afford them so no point".

or

"no I think our plans are for a much better quality house than yours so you'll need to do your own".
