Neighbour being a CF when looking at our loft conversion?

Neighbourproblem25 · 24/10/2025 13:25

Our house has a loft conversion and when I saw one of our neighbours on Tuesday walking back from the school drop off she asked if she could come in and look at it as she is considering the same and has a similar style house to ours.

Anyway, I said yes that’s fine but could she come on Wednesday after 5 as I was about to go to work. So she turns up bang on 5 and I took her up to show her the loft room.

She made a comment about how she’s glad she doesn’t live with a man anymore because you could tell one lived here by the smell (!), commented on the decor negatively and said she’d have gone with a different style in the en-suite! She then didn’t say thank you when she left.

I was being polite by letting her see it as it could have been helpful to her but I feel she was a complete CF?!

I bet she's one of those awful people who boasts that she 'speaks as she finds' and 'calls a spade a spade' but is, in fact, simply a complete cunt.

BaronessBomburst · 24/10/2025 17:05

Men do smell. Even the clean ones. And it's not necessarily unpleasant, but yes, you can always tell if a man has slept in a room. I laughed at that comment.

PuppyMonkey · 24/10/2025 17:09

I’m quite interested in the distinction between a cheeky fucker and a cheeky bastard. Grin

I think she was a cheeky, rude twat if that helps.

Moveoverdarlin · 24/10/2025 17:11

I can tell why she doesn’t live with a man anymore. She sounds a complete pain in the ass.

GelatoForMe · 24/10/2025 17:13

It is just jealousy and bitchiness. What made you let her in?

StewkeyBlue · 24/10/2025 17:17

She just sounds massively lacking in filters or social skills.

Who cares what a neighbour thinks of your decor etc

I would just shrug and move on.

She’s jealous of your loft, your man, your house , anything. Jealous women can be very good at sticking the knife in to other women IME. Did she say anything about your loft?

This, jealous and resentful, no doubt about it. It’s amazing how some people are just so see through

softlyfallsthesnow · 24/10/2025 17:27

As I commented the other day on a similar thread - No good deed goes unpunished.
Yes she was very rude and probably jealous too. You have to learn to say no to people unless there's a good reason to say yes (nearest and dearest excluded, usually). Give her a wide berth and carry on. You were the better person.

BadgernTheGarden · 24/10/2025 17:31

Our neighbours asked to come in and look at our extension, they said it was lovely. God knows what they really think, but I do think people should be polite.

APTPT · 24/10/2025 17:33

Lmao

She was rude or lacks social skills, but is it awful to say I know exactly what she means by a man smell?

ExposedCankles · 24/10/2025 19:50

I mean she sounds like a twat but who cares?

Agree with this 👆 She is jealous of you! Just laugh at her!

You sound a delight - who cares about anything on here?!

Tough week at work?

When I first joined MN I thought that maybe CF meant cunt face, I found out that it actually meant cheeky fucker

In this instance I’m going with cunt face

Christmasinmecar · 04/02/2026 12:08

She said your house smelt do you have a dog ?
If not then it's a case of "Well, my house didn't smell until you walked in love."
I'm a total bitch by MN standards, but only when required as I always stand up for the underdog.

FlowerFairyDaisy · 04/02/2026 12:10

It was fine for her to ask to see it but very rude to criticise the smell and decor. Not a CF but a very rude person.

BillieWiper · 04/02/2026 12:14

How appallingly rude! Frankly she sounds either mentally unwell or really horrible. Who would say such things? I guess I don't know her character.

I'd be tempted to just not speak to her anymore. Unless she really is just hugely tactless and for some reason doesn't realise such things would be insulting?

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 04/02/2026 12:20

She sounds like the neighbour in the other thread - the one who is always angling for personal information so that she can gossip and share it far and wide, and who is now puzzled as to why nobody wants to engage with her.

Even if there is a particular 'man smell', because a man lives there, what does she think she's achieving by mentioning it in a derisory way? I'm sure there are also men's clothes hanging in the wardrobe too - what of it?

Why was she in the en-suite anyway? Is the loft access hatch in there?!

I agree that, if she does want to go ahead with an extension, she'll almost certainly want to come back for photos or to send her builder in to have a look at the kind of thing she's after (or even what you have and she doesn't want). In which case it's more than reasonable to say "No, I found your comments about my private house very rude and deliberately insulting before - when I was doing you a favour - so I'm sure you'll understand why you're not welcome to come back and do the same again."

Mama2many73 · 04/02/2026 12:23

LaurieFairyCake · 24/10/2025 14:11

I’d have laughed at the ‘man smell’ comment as it’s so true - men bloody stink.

the decor comment wouldn’t have bothered me either, none of the women in my book group like my new paint job. They’ve literally all said how much they don’t like it. I just find it funny, it’s not to everyone’s taste (dark green in the study where we have the group)

Whether its true or not you dont bloody say it unless uou are in a really safe, strong friendship.and know it will be taken light hearted, and even then personally I'd say NO!
OP, she was an ahole!

AntiqueBabyLoanSmurf · 04/02/2026 12:24

I agree with PP about the CF terminology not being quite appropriate here. The biggest loft CF ever has to be the one on the thread from way back who decided that she was going to use the OP's loft to extend her home next door!

Her reasoning was that she had more children than OP, so she 'needed the space' - and OP was a mean old great big meanie not to hand over her own loft to a neighbour who had designs on it!
