Autumn is the worst season

I hate autumn with a passion and can’t believe others don’t feel the same.

I don’t live in New England but the North West
of (actual) England. Every day for the past week I have been soaked - either at school drop or pick up, if not both. The leaves are soaked so slippy and I fucking hate it.

And no to ‘dressing for the weather’ - the damp air kicks of my asthma. At least winter is usually cold and sunny

You're not unreasonable to feel as you do but I love autumn (sorry). The colours and light are stunning, I love foraging mushrooms and making apple chutney, and lighting the fire and celebrating the change of season. By February it's dreary and dark and Im over being all warm and cozy, but in October I love it!

Livpool · 22/10/2025 22:33

No need to be sorry - I am just sick of getting wet and not being able to breathe!

AmethystDeceiver · 22/10/2025 22:35

It's cold weather and central heating that kicks off my asthma, as well as chest colds/ any random virus, so I do get it!!

Bimblebombles · 22/10/2025 22:35

I get some grim viruses every October - usually gastro bugs of some kind. That’s the only thing I don’t like. Everything else I love. Having the heating on. Making shepherds pies. Sitting under blankets. Having a nice bath. Looking at the beautiful leaves. Making soup

HotTiredDog · 22/10/2025 22:36

Fair enough re your asthma, that’s an acceptable reason to dislike autumn.
But otherwise YAB totally U!

Screenager · 22/10/2025 22:37

I live in the Lake District and the colours are amazing atm!… it does rain a lot though

ThankGodItsAutumn · 22/10/2025 22:38

I love Autumn obviously 😁, but I understand how you feel as summer makes me unwell - raging hayfever, eczema, heat rash...I can't bear the fact you can't do anything without getting uncomfortably hot and sweaty.

So I get it, but beg to differ!

Livpool · 22/10/2025 22:43

If am unreasonable I am thinking I should emigrate to North Africa - the dry heat would suit my asthma and not frizz my hair!

Summer is the worst season for me too. Asthma, constant migraines, my skin flares up and I struggle to eat. I just feel ill and depressed through June, July & August. Autumn is my favourite time simply because summer is over and won't be back for months!
Sorry.

MumChp · 23/10/2025 01:43

Winter much worse.

briq · 23/10/2025 02:03

I'm sorry you're dealing with asthma and that autumn makes it worse, but I feel so much better when summer is over for the year. The heat makes me tired and uncomfortable, so I'm grateful when October rolls around and I can enjoy being outdoors more again.

No5ChalksRoad · 23/10/2025 02:11

I love chilly, rainy weather.

To each her own.

tuvamoodyson · 23/10/2025 05:00

Autumn is my favourite season.

Hernameisdeborah · 23/10/2025 05:28

YANBU to hate Autumn. I think it’s a bit unreasonable to be unable to believe others don’t agree though!

NJLX2021 · 23/10/2025 05:50

Move to a country with basically no Autumn, like where I am, and you will miss it so much.

Here, summer is basically 8 months where you are too hot the whole time and can barely go outside during the day-time.. Then there is a 1-2 week "autumn" (not really autumn, no leaves fall off.. just temperature drops) and bang, 3-4 month winter, where it can be bitterly cold.

Nothing makes you love the UK climate like being away from the UK. it may be wet, grey and boring at times... but that also makes it so livable and practical, compared to a lot of more extreme places.

Hernameisdeborah · 23/10/2025 06:09

Following my earlier post, on reflection, as Autumn kicks off your asthma and makes you feel awful, I can totally see why you wouldn’t get why others love it so!

Cheeseontoastghost · 23/10/2025 06:18

This isnt an autumn thing, autumnn is lovely 🍁🍂🕸
It's a living in a cold, rainy area thing.
It's not suddenly going to be lovely in winter or spring is it?

Fetches anorak ...

WashYourDamnRice · 23/10/2025 06:29

Surely winter trumps autumn in shit weather top trumps? Everything dies and it's depressing as fuck. At least this time of year has some colour. I do sympathise though because I also struggle with the changing of the seasons, and it marks the beginning of the worst half of the year (for me).

SouthernNights59 · 23/10/2025 06:40

I love autumn with a passion - but I don't live in the UK and autumns here are usually lovely. Sorry OP, I can understand why you don't like it, it sounds awful.

HoppityBun · 23/10/2025 06:48

I love autumn. I feel at home in autumn. The heat of the summer oppresses me. January and February and much of March drive me into depression. April, May and the beginning of June are fine, except I’m dreading the heat and drought that’s on it’s way

CoubousAndTourmaIet · 23/10/2025 06:51

I suppose this thread illustrates how different we all are.

@Hernameisdeborah . I hate summer for the same reason; my asthma is triggered by warm air and humidity, so I do feel for the OP in that respect.

@WashYourDamnRice , some of us love winter though, and find summer far more depressing.

@SouthernNights59 Autumn is lovely in the UK also, the OP is in the minority in finding it the hardest season, physically. I live in the north west, as she does, but I love autumn. I agree with her that the rain over the last few days has been tedious, but in this area that can happen at pretty much any time of year and is not restricted to autumn. I guess she's just feeling understandably crappy with her asthma at the moment, like I was in July and it does make you hate everything.

thisishowloween · 23/10/2025 07:05

This is my absolute favourite time of year.

Morecoombe · 23/10/2025 07:18

YABU to say where you DONT live. Pointless

Icebreakhell · 23/10/2025 07:22

I love a dry autumn but I could not live in the NW, the relentless rain must be so hard.

myglowupera · 23/10/2025 07:24

I don’t mind Autumn so much, but I absolutely hate winter. Too cold, too dark, too expensive, too icy.

Summer is by far my favourite season. And I like Spring too.
