To be sick of plop, run and never return threads

Bladderpool · 08/10/2025 20:22

Seems to be so many threads where the OP writes a contentious/controversial post, the thread gets loads of traffic and runs to 20 pages but the OP never comes back. My cynical opinion is that they’re planted for clicks and traction.

OP posts:

The all inclusive holiday from hell one rings a bell!

Bladderpool · 08/10/2025 20:24

There’s the pasta in the lap too.

Yep, all just click rage bait threads!

DashboardConfession · 08/10/2025 20:31

First thing I do now is click to see all of the OP's posts and if they never come back I don't read any further!

SkaneTos · 08/10/2025 20:33

I think that sometimes the original poster doesn't like the answers they are getting, and therefore they don't return to the thread.

But sometimes it seems like the post is just to get clicks, and they never plan to return.

IKnowAristotle · 08/10/2025 20:36

What is worse a plopper or a drip feed?

padronpepper · 08/10/2025 20:38

I reported the pasta in lap thread. MN were taking a look 9 hours ago.
I think the 16 year old pulling her 6 year old brother by the hair thread is another one.

Same here. 'One post plopper' threads I don't bother reading past the first post.

HoskinsChoice · 08/10/2025 20:39

The ones that really piss me off are the ones that ask for specific advice and then dont return or say thank you. I have offered detailed help for a few HR type questions and they dont even acknowledge it. So fucking rude!

A plopper.

Yes, me too. Thank goodness for that option. But then some threads the OP comments once more, early on, then disappears. Maybe as PP said they just don't like the direction their thread is going in.

Ddakji · 08/10/2025 20:44

What with these and then the ones where stupid posters don’t bother to read all the OP’s posts before posting (infinitely more annoying), I think MN are losing control of the site as it’s becoming unusable.

I think on the ones where all the OP’s posts need to be read there should be some kind of mechanism forcing posters to read them before posting. You have to tick a check box in each of the OP’s posts before you can post in the thread or something.

Or the (multiple) threads that ask AIBU about a certain issue, and 100s of people say 'yes YABU' and list several reasons why, and the OP says 'no I'm not, I'm right, I know it all, you're wrong!'

Then after saying this to about 7 posters, they start ignoring most posters, and only respond to the few people agreeing with them, saying 'oh thank you, at least YOU understand, and agree that I'm right!' Ignoring every poster for the next 500-600 posts who disagrees with them.

Definitely a plopper.

I secretly love a drip feed because the outrage in the responses is hilarious, people respond as though they've suffered a great betrayal.

Reverses on the other hand...

I'm puzzled by that though - how does it help to get lots of clicks? Who/what gets their jollies from that?

I find it frustrating too when there is no engagement from the poster at all. I really wanted to know if the mother in the 'pasta in lap' post had offered to pay for the meal and cleaning! But we will never know 😂

I'm really really disappointed you posted this OP. You had the perfect opportunity to do a plop and run about plop and runs, thus pissing everyone off and proving your point, and completely failed.

SpigTheFish · 08/10/2025 21:02

Yep, so many plop and run threads, it's getting ridiculous now.

I simply click 'see all' and if the poster hasn't returned then I don't bother reading on.

havingoneofthosedays · 08/10/2025 21:03

Ever thought who might be starting these threads Hmm

Russia?

padronpepper · 08/10/2025 21:52

It's worth doing a search on ploppers threads. If there is only the plopped thread then they are 100% trolling.

Timeforabitofpeace · 08/10/2025 21:53

More so the first 15 or twenty nasty and often right wing responses. So plainly not genuine

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 08/10/2025 22:12

Yes there’s loads of these, they’re very annoying.

I think in this one the OP got so slammed (rightfully so), she was just defeated from the get go. You can’t really argue with reason. OR that phone call took a bad turn.

But I agree, loads of threads I never get closure on.

that, and when you’re invested in a thread and really engage for you to go to bed then wake up the next morning and see it’s been deleted. So many questions!!
