To mix these things on a jacket potato?

Butter, beetroot, blue cheese, creme freche, red onion and coriander?

I'm craving it, but can't decide whether it's flavour overkill and just have lovely melted mature cheddar.

YABU
Beetroot has no place on any plate of food.

Twinstudy · 08/10/2025 15:16

I'd skip the butter but otherwise sounds lovely

CoffeeCantata · 08/10/2025 15:16

A very discerning choice, if I may say so, OP.

But you will never beat:

Fluffy baked potato
Knob of butter
Black pepper (salt if you must, but the cheese is salty)
Grated very mature Cheddar cheese
Nice coleslaw

Never beaten in my opinion. The Food of the Gods.

Arlanymor · 08/10/2025 15:16

Butter is the law, so that's non-negotiable.

But I think cheese and creme fraiche are just doubling up the dairy (not including the obligatory butter) so I would choose one or the other with red onion and coriander. I'm not sure the beetroot should be allowed ON the potato, but it may appear as a garnish with some leaves and other salad things on the side.

Just my humble jacket potato opinion.

There’s only one way to find out…

Zippidydoodah · 08/10/2025 15:17

I love coriander, but I don’t think it belongs here.

This is true and as you have listed in the correct order too because cheese must go under coleslaw so it can get lovely and melty first.

Arregaithel · 08/10/2025 15:18

would have either blue cheese or onion

I think with creme fraiche it does, but I can't see it as a nice accompaniment for blue cheese. I love coriander too and in this scenario I think creme fraiche is the understudy for sour cream, which is absolutely a good bedfellow (potatofellow?) for coriander.

LightDrizzle · 08/10/2025 15:19

Insane but you have to try it now you’ve thought of it. Please let us know!

Hattieholi · 08/10/2025 15:20

I'm swapping the coriander for rocket ... but I'm going for it .... and after googling blue cheese jacket potato I found an ottolenghi recipe and am now also adding walnuts.

Michelin star spuds here I come 😂

Can you do me one with cheese and beans while you're at it?

Skipping butter on a jacket potato (or with anything to be honest) is the worst advice I've ever seen anywhere on the internet.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 08/10/2025 15:23

I’m not sure I’d have butter as well as crème fraiche

I have to agree. With the caveat that unless it's for an allergy (or I suppose dietary) issue. In which case I am deeply sorry for you. Sincerely, deeply sorry.

pizzaHeart · 08/10/2025 15:25

I usually put butter onto potato, beetroot on the side and use olive oil instead of crème fraiche especially if I add walnuts but you do you - enjoy!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 08/10/2025 15:48

Yikes, total overkill and coriander is the devil's dandruff. Give me loads of butter and salad cream together any day...taste sensation

oneoneone · 08/10/2025 15:56

YABU to be having a jacket potato when you could grate it up and fry it into a lovely rosti with the above toppings.

pumpkinscake · 08/10/2025 15:58

Bit too much fat for me. I'd skip the creme fraiche

BallerinaRadio · 08/10/2025 15:59

Mumsnet has got bloody weird

Reporting! You have to be a troll, suggesting skipping butter on a baked potato. 😱

RedNine · 08/10/2025 16:06

I'm another fan of squashing salad cream into your spud. Don't knock it til ya tried it.

SamphiretheTervosaur · 08/10/2025 16:08

I think creme fraiche and butter is overkill amd, with that combination, would drop the butter.

It sounds intriguing... I could definitely be tempted to try it myself 😃

CoffeeCantata · 08/10/2025 16:09

Let’s just take a moment, shall we, to appreciate the humble potato. I cannot fathom what people in this country did before these marvellous tubers were brought to our shores by…er…Sir Walter Raleigh? It was cold pease porridge day in, day out, I think.

They are so versatile and delicious, and nutritious. I’ve always found it odd that in the 5-a-day campaign a potato doesn’t count but a portion of Heinz beans does.

My vegan daughter feels uneasy about eating potatoes because she feels it’s a low trick to steal the plant’s store of starch which it’s been accumulating in its tubers to sustain itself. It is sad, but I just cannot do without my potatoes.

Sounds like something a pregnant woman would come up with at 3am.
