Body Odour Soap

BunnyRabbit1 · 06/10/2025 23:15

Whats the best soap for getting rid of body odour under arms.

I feel its not well advertised in supermarkets.

Example Dove bar is not a soap. Its a beauty bar. But does that mean it doesn't work enough to be clean all day?

I normally use bodywash cheaper or more expensive.

Persimmon soap is good for this.

XenoBitch · 06/10/2025 23:17

Persimmon soap. It is sold as helping with the "old person smell", but it is also good for body odour.

How strange. Any age smells. After being active or sitting around or sleeping.

But is a bar of soap good to use before body wash..

Any soap will do the job. As long as it’s soap.
I used Simple bars for a long time. Also the basic own brand value ones.
Now I have some lovely smelling, fancy ones from TK Maxx.
I smell if I don’t wash regularly and find I need soap to cut through any armpit whiff!!

Katflapkit · 06/10/2025 23:22

The Ordinary do a tonic called gycholic acid. It's is a see through plastics bottle. A few drops on a cotton pad and wiping is really good for under arm odours. Then apply deodorant on top. It makes a difference.

Chlorhexidine Gluconate (Hibiclens where I am) kills the bacteria that cause body odor.

I sometimes use hand soap to start off. Lol
Yes its interesting how you either can manage to not smell really at all one day but the next you stink.
Its like a sudden switch.

Also I heard apparently using loads of body wash doesnt matter or a longer shower. You could dry off and get dressed but if you haven't actually got rid of the under arm smell properly you will get it back again soon enough.

I have dry skin. Hands go dry quickly.

Not sure id like the Detol Soap for example.

I swear by Pears soap. Seems to do the job really well. I start off on the shower with that, then a once over with a nice smelling shower gel and it gets rid of any lingering whiffs.

isitmytime · 07/10/2025 00:24

Detol soap. It’s not harsh or drying but does the job. I have pretty sensitive skin and it’s been my go to for years. Any bar soap will do the trick.
don’t follow it up with shower gel though. Just keep the shower gel for else where.

Contemporaneouslyagog · 07/10/2025 00:45

shield soap works really well

CoastalCalm · 07/10/2025 00:47

I used to love Zest soap for this , seemed to get everything extra clean and fresh

TheSandgroper · 07/10/2025 03:57

I used to work outside in the Australian summer. On bad days, I would scrub my armpits (and a lot more of me, too) with bicarbonate of soda. Absolutely nothing smelly survives that sucker.

CurlewKate · 07/10/2025 04:44

If any of you are in contact with Persimmon soap, do tell them that is a horrible and offensive strap line!

intherough · 07/10/2025 05:16

Hibiclenssssssssssss!!!!!

Also a big fan of pears. But with any soap I have to really scrub my pits to ensure all the bacteria is killed. If I have a particularly smelly day then the following wash takes more time.

isthismylifenow · 07/10/2025 06:16

You need an antibacterial soap.

I live in a hot country and normal shower gel doesn't always cut it for pits. I'm not sure what brands you get, but Dettol, Savlon, Protex etc.

These are bar soaps. Way better than the liquid version.

Ohwhatfuckeryitistoride · 07/10/2025 06:48

Don't use body wash as well, especially if you have dry skin. Soap, lathered up and thoroughly rinsed is all you need. Bil, who is a plumber and gets smelly sweaty and grotty, uses zest or another lemony one that's easy to get but I can't remember.

Clickandcollects · 07/10/2025 06:55

Yes Dettol soap and scrub with a flannel or shower puff.
followed up with Mitchum stick deodorant (the creamy one not the roll on)
This combination has sorted my smelly pits

RampantIvy · 07/10/2025 06:55

Any bar of soap is fine. Ditch the shower gel.

begone25 · 07/10/2025 06:55

Hibiscrub occasionally as needed (I’d find it too harsh to use daily), but also Salt of the Earth spray or crystal deodorant works wonders.

No, she’s talking about a specific thing - nonenal odour and persimmon soap is known to help.

I use detol soap under my arms and it's not drying at all. My skin is very dry and always has been.

mamagogo1 · 07/10/2025 07:08

Plain soap works really well, 4 bars for £1 cheap stuff is actually better than fancy ones. Added bonus - you can wash hair and even shave the bar to wash clothes when travelling which I’m at the moment

OldBeyondMyYears · 07/10/2025 07:18

I use Dettol soap. It’s got a lovely fresh scent and gets rid of BO.
