Astounded by trip to shopping centre today

Harrietta82 · 04/10/2025 20:52

I usually do my shopping online these days, but went shopping with a friend today to a big centre about 30 minutes away from us (I won’t name it incase outing).

Is it me, or has the minimum size stocked by the majority of shops gradually increased in recent times? I was asking shop assistants whether they had any size 6 stock and received blank stares half the time!

No wonder physical shops seem to be on the way out.

Needless to say, I’ll be sticking to online.

A pleasant experience aside from that though and lovely to see my friend so it wasn’t a wasted day.

#stealthboast
if it’s genetics to “thank” then why are you telling people to fuck off down the gym? It’s more difficult for some than others to obtain and maintain a healthy weight. At least people have seen the post for what it is.

Where have I said that? Forget the gym, I think you need a trip to Specsavers!

Just seen the subsequent posts, honestly why do people do this. @Harrietta82 you must have something better to do & if not & you just want to troll & wind up can't you at least make it entertaining?

Probably lonely, nothing much in their life, unhappy, etc. They are to be pitied really.

Takes half a brain to make it entertaining!

Talk about a humble brag

But why do they have to come here?

HansHolbein · 04/10/2025 22:56

Standard wind them up and watch them go late Saturday night Mumsnet bollocks.

Clothing - with the right brand/style I can sometimes get away with a 4 but there was no change of finding that today! The joys of being a teeny size I guess, I’ve got genetics to thank for that!

You mentioned genetics here

Gosh, how frightfully awful for you. Please take good care of yourself and allow yourself time to heal.. Thoughts and prayers. You got this. Living your best life.

Would you say this to someone like my friend who used to be a size 16 but dropped 5 dress sizes due to cancer treatment? I'll pass on your thoughts and prayers, I'm sure she'll be pleased to think you imagine she is living her best life.

That's not what the diamond shoes quote means. You use it when someone is humble bragging by means of talking about the hardship of having something aspirational but it doesn't mean the person saying it is jealous just that the person they're talking about doesn't seem to appreciate what they have.

And what they have is aspirational… meaning the poster who used that quote feels that being a size 6 is aspirational. And that the OP should appreciate what she has.

You use that quote when you think what they have is aspirational. So, by using it, it was that poster who is hanging onto the old values that women should aspire to be tiny.

KimTheresPeopleThatAreDying · 04/10/2025 23:11

So your thinness is down to genetics, AKA luck, but you tell others they need “discipline”. Sure.

Unsuurisweird · 04/10/2025 23:12

This thread got me thinking. In prior years I’d have been all about being teeny tiny skinny but now it’s not something I’d ever aspire to. I think society has changed. To me I aspire to strength and feeling great now. I’d actually hate to be really thin, although I now many can’t help it

Are your diamond shoes too tight too?!

Weird statement. It is very frustrating to not find clothes to fit. Why is this challenging you?

I’m a size 6. I’m not skinny. I’m strong. They aren’t mutually exclusive

Teathecolourofcreosote · 04/10/2025 23:14

Christ even when I was under seven stone in my late teens and early 20s I couldn't really fit in a size 6. I remember having a pair of size 6 top shop trousers but they were very snug.

How tiny do you have to be to fit a 4?

I'm 5ft 3 and 8.5 stone and couldn't fit an 8. You must be miniscule

Perhaps. That kind of physique isn’t something I’d aspire to though now. I think times have changed

Purplebunnie · 04/10/2025 23:15

You can't get above a size 16 in our local FatFace or a size 18in a lot of shops We call it the fat tax as we have to order everything online

Fiftyandme · 04/10/2025 23:16

It’s order online then

nomas · 04/10/2025 23:18

Harrietta82 · 04/10/2025 20:57

It’s not rocket science is it - if they stocked less of those sizes, they’d have space for smaller ones? Have I missed something, sorry if so.

Shops put out all the stock they have, so if there weren’t any size 6 there, why would you ask for them?

Not many adults have the body that small. You seem to be angry fat shamer! Are you expecting all adult clothes to be made in children's sizes? It wouldn't sell!

plsdontsitthere · 04/10/2025 23:21

Wow you’re so teeny! Shall we throw a party? Should we call Bella hadid?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 04/10/2025 23:22

Some sizes sell fast and often not enough are ordered.

It’s not challenging me at all.
