Dip kiss at weddings

As far as I'm concerned this "dip kiss" signifies dominance to the wife to be submissive. I hate it and so do a lot of photographers

What’s a dip kiss?

AhWeNoss · 04/10/2025 18:00

DH will sometimes give me a kiss on my head and I do to him. It’s a show of affection, that’s all.

ETA that I thought a dip kiss was when you bow your head for a kiss. We do the dip kiss as well but for fun.

Pleasegetmeacoffeesotired · 04/10/2025 18:01

Don't do it then. I like it though. My dh and I do it quite often when we're being silly together.

GaspingGekko · 04/10/2025 18:01

I mean, I think it looks tacky. Not sure I'd read that much into it though.

TequilaNights · 04/10/2025 18:01

Its just a performative kiss for a photo.

I dont see the point of it, but dont see it signifying dominance

sweeneytoddsrazor · 04/10/2025 18:02

So dont have it at your wedding

BriefEncountersOfTheThirdKind · 04/10/2025 18:02

I think you're overthinking things

And how do you know photographers "hate it"?

Sunshineismyfavourite · 04/10/2025 18:03

Surely it depends on how the bride feels about it at the time. I don't think it's possible to say that every dip kiss has a malicious intent of dominance. As far as I'm concerned it's a romantic if a little performative gesture.

maudelovesharold · 04/10/2025 18:03

I don’t really know what it is, but as long as it doesn’t involve the bride curtseying to the groom or prostrating herself at his feet, it’s probably fine!

Sakura7 · 04/10/2025 18:03

What?

HugelyExpensiveCrystalDuck · 04/10/2025 18:04

Who would care what a wedding photographer should think about any aspect of their wedding?

Not everything is a feminist issue or cause for railing against the patriarchy! It’s just a kiss.

Berlinlover · 04/10/2025 18:05

I think it just looks awkward.

brunettemic · 04/10/2025 18:06

My word 😂🙄

RaininSummer · 04/10/2025 18:07

Never heard of it.

Absentosaur · 04/10/2025 18:08

It’s a bit tacky.. but each to their own 🤷‍♀️

Thats part of a dance isn’t it? Not normally done at the altar. Romantic .

5foot5 · 04/10/2025 18:10

What in the world is a dip kiss? I have never heard of it.

PrincessOfPreschool · 04/10/2025 18:10

The first and only time I saw a dip kiss at a wedding was when my very strong willed (certainly not submissive) friend married an American. At 'you may kiss the bride' they did an incredible dip kiss which took us all by surprise and was quite lovely. The photographer got the vicar looking quite thrilled!

Pleasegetmeacoffeesotired · 04/10/2025 18:10

The OP means this for those who haven't heard of it.

I'd much rather see this that the more recent trend of pushing faces into cakes or smearing it on each other

5foot5 · 04/10/2025 18:13

Oh I have seen the photo now. I don't think I have seen anyone do that in real life, only in films. I personally think it looks a bit silly but I wouldn't read anymore in to it.

Risky too unless you are both in good shape. The potential for a humiliating fall or someone putting their back out is surely quite high.

Petrolitis · 04/10/2025 18:14

Unless I'm marrying John Paul Sigmundson, that would be unlikely to happen

MrsTerryPratchett · 04/10/2025 18:16

Why does everything on Sm have to become a ‘thing’. Do something, don’t do something. But for heaven’s sake don’t do something because you saw it in Insta to put on Insta.
