To think some people are considered prettier in other countries?

In other words, different countries have different beauty standards/preferences, and so some people might be considered more attractive in one country than another.

I was recently on holiday in Jo’burg with some friends (we’re in our 20s), and the amount of interest/attention my naturally blonde friend got was crazy. She said she’d never felt so pretty.

Equally, I went to Stockholm a few years ago and had never felt less attractive… got zero attention!

What kind of “attention” are you talking about?

I've never thought about it, but then I've never had any attention anywhere so it's not really on my radar.

10 years ago when i was in Egypt, as very blonde and blue eyed, i got plenty of 'attention'. But it wasn't good attention.

Went travelling through Mexico with a friend years ago. She was (and still is) prettier than me but it was definitely noticeable.

It wasnt bad/unpleasant attention and neither of us ever felt unsafe - it was more that people would talk to me and everyone wouod be super friendly. Received loads of compliments about my eyes (think max 3 people in the uk have ever mentioned them in my life)

She's more Mediterranean looking, tanned beautifully. I was a permanently semi sunburnt red glowing mess but i still got more attention.

I've been to Mexico since that trip with dh and dc, and even dh (who adores me) was slightly baffled by the random attention i got.

I am the kind of ugly that’s universal.

There are different standards and ideals of beauty in different countries. I notice it straight away when in France or any of the low countries.

But how do you know those people found you more attractive?
More approachable? More interesting? More friendly? More likely to buy their stuff?

I thank the lord I'm now in my 40s and couldn't give a shit about how attractive men from other countries may or may not find me.

Beauty is subjective. I am sure you are not ugly x

It's not about beauty, it's about being different.

I think most of the time it’s an interest because you look unusual rather then different approach to beauty. No offence 🙂

Yes, as a tall blonde I'm used to a few looks, in the Scandi countries I'm distinctly common!

I seem to be astonishingly beautiful everywhere. Any ideas where I could be considered not jaw-droppingly gorgeous?

Tbh I think it exists in the UK, I always felt attractive growing up in London but moved to a smaller city for uni & I didn't feel pretty at all. This was the 00s & there was a very specific fashion look eg dead straight hair, low rise jeans etc which I didn't like nor did I like looking the same as everyone else.
