Shit! Dead tumble dryer 💀 Anyone have Which?

Chaosclassic · 16/09/2025 23:14

Tumble dryer has died this evening. Bad news 😱

Anyone have Which? Membership?

I need to purchase tomorrow and always make botch appliance decisions when rushed.

Ideally a 10kg condenser is what I want with good energy rating. Are there any on the Which guide?

I know it’s a cheeky ask and effort. All I can offer is to forever send you thoughts and prayers and good wash omens 😂 🙏

I've literally just bought a new one at the weekend. Ordered at 2pm Sat was delivered on Sunday.
Went for this one after some research
https://ao.com/product/b3t4911dw-beko-condenser-tumble-dryer-white-88793-18.aspx
Old one was a heat pump and took forever and died after less than 4 years! Although I do use it a lot.
I'm really impressed with this one up to now. Loads quicker than the old one. Might be less efficient but takes half the time so surely cancels out 🤷🏼‍♀️

Miele.

lacksomjam · 16/09/2025 23:33

i got the same beko one as @BagGreen24 a couple of months ago. It’s a which best buy / was top of their table. Works great. I’ve never had one before though so nothing to compare to.

My subscription fee is basically now a charitable donation so you may as well make use of it

I bought a Miele 17 years ago and it’s still going strong.

What!!! Omg lol that is impressive.

Thank you so much @Becauseyouaskednicely . I do trust a which buy so will look at that one.

Also two recommendations for the Beko sounds good.

Although it was quite exciting doing a late night dash to the carpark tumbles. 20kg! I should do that more often I think. Certainly for the post-holiday washes.

I find that Which? test a small range of makes/ models or their last test was years ago so it's no longer relevant. I'd go with a top rated appliance from AO. FWIW I have a Beko TD too.

InspectorDefect · 17/09/2025 07:22

AO and read all reviews before deciding.

supercalifragilistic123 · 17/09/2025 07:34

We had a beko one before which died after 9 years heavy use. We've replaced it with a Samsung and I miss the Beko. It was much better I wish we'd got a Beko again!
We've only used heat pumps recently though because they're more energy efficient, I found condensers can make your clothes crispy although the technology has probably improved.

AnnaQuayInTheUk · 17/09/2025 07:38

Unless you're running a guest house or have a need to change lots of bedding and towels regularly, don't rush to buy a tumble dryer as most families can manage without one for a few weeks. Give yourself time to read reviews and ask about different models.

We buy all our big appliances from AO and the service has always been really good.

IamnotSethRogan · 17/09/2025 07:41

I had someone here mending my washer dryer and they said Beko were the best to go for - don't know if that helps

jeaux90 · 17/09/2025 08:00

I use Which for a lot but honestly I would always buy Miele.

RandomMess · 17/09/2025 08:03

My cheapo A energy one is dying but it is 20 years old, sad times

Nah - tumble dryers are like dishwashers: once you've had one you use regularly you do not wait to replace. Wet washing around the place when the weather is like this is depressing and not healthy.

Heated airers are the gamechangers, well only cat and I, double bedding so ok

Damn right I would rush to replace my tumble dryer, I don't want to use laundrettes for very long as it's inconvenient and expensive. And if you think I'm going to have wet washing strewn around my house - and how would I do that anyway, I've only a couple of racks on rads and they're for towels - for weeks on end you're having a laugh. I don't have washing lines and it's constantly peeing down now. Like @Needtosoundoffandbreathe says, I can't do without it now and only managed without because there was just my own laundry to deal with...

FWIW, I have a Miele TDA, love it. The Beko sounds very good and would be considered if I needed new (I used to have a budget White Knight TD years ago and that was basic but great for the money).

neverstopthelaundry · 17/09/2025 08:12

@Chaosclassic Another vote for the Beko I have basically had 2 of these, replaced the last one I had with a new version I think last year. Great machine for the price.

The main thing about drying times is the spin on your washing machine. Mine is a 1600 so clothes dry (mixed t shirts, joggers load) in about an hour. I love this one as it senses when the clothes are dry.

I think heated airers put all the moisture into the house just like a radiator with wet washing on would. I would only use one in conjunction with a dehumidifier.

QueenOfCastille · 17/09/2025 12:37

I avoid Beko like the plague after buying one of their dryers that ran so hot it ruined all my children’s school uniforms on its first outing. Curry’s refunded the price, but Beko refused to pay for the new uniforms.

waitingforthehallmarkedman · 17/09/2025 12:48

I've had a Logik condenser for a few years now, it's been brilliant and was quite cheap at the time.

To be fair I am awful at this so buy one size up to accommodate shrinkage.

I have an 8yr old Beko condenser dryer, I'm not a fan. It will only dry one sheet at a time, because it knots things so badly, shirts end up with the sleeves all tangled up. The sensor has never been reliable, it never properly dries things without an extra 20mins.
Predecessor was a Bosch, which was faultless, or if I had the cash I'd buy a Miele.

Saxendi · 17/09/2025 22:29

I got a Bosch condenser tumble dryer earlier this year which I have to say is faultless, everything drys perfectly, such an improvement on my old AEG one.

I have a very similar one.

Simple, does the job. We've had it a decade now, no issues at all.

Tcateh · 17/09/2025 23:00

Just a quick recommendation, if you buy through Boots appliances (which I had no idea existed until a few yrs ago when I was on the hunt for a cooker) you get points!
Plus from memory my my item turned up via ao delivery.

I’m fairly sure mine is a Hoover…..about two years old, and I am so looking forward to the day it dies. Never again! When you open the door the condenser pipe leaks onto the floor, the towels are so hot you can’t touch them, and it doesn’t reverse tumble. Clothes have to be untangled frequently. Plus the programmes aren’t simple to understand. Never ever again.
