Mumsnet has been deleting any comment at all that criticises Charlie Kirk... just because he has died does not mean he is infallible. He is still an evil person who did and said evil things, contributed to so much suffering of families at the hands of ICE etc., mocked the Palestinians undergoing a genocide? Mumsnet, disturbing much? I had to get MN by email to delete a thread of mine as I was getting bullied and people were making personal attacks against me (the talk guidelines say personal attacks will be deleted, yet I had to BEG for this), but they are censoring anything anyone says about Charlie Kirk? Why are we not allowed to have freedom of speech and freedom to debate, especially when it is someone who did and said SO MUCH EVIL!

The numbers were right when I posted them sigh.

Left America to return to now ex-Communist Eastern Europe just before Trump's second term. Because they can see what's coming. They've seen it before and recognise it. Now there's a whole new set of resources dedicated to parents wondering why their adult kids won't have anything to do with them. And here's the tragedy. Both parents and kids were victims of this toxic mission of resurrecting a "Christian nation" via "rescuing and empowering the American family for Christ". There will have been some abusive unwell people causing carnage to their kids no matter what. But the majority of stories coming out are adults recognizing their parents were / are good decent people who only wanted to be good, godly parents, and this is the way their entire world and culture told them was the only right way to parent. They were promised very good things if they followed the book(s), very bad things for their kids if they didn't. It was very very hard to go against - some did, many didn't. Many tried it and abandoned the attempt, but damage was already done. So many broken families as a direct result of these so-called ministries - which personally I think had more to do with weaponizing the family for larger political aims rather than any true care for parents and kids, some of which we're seeing come to fruition today.

I have no idea what CKs dream for "the family" was, or what his wife means. But I sure don't trust anyone using that type of language and positioning.

Yeah, that's not why they are backtracking at all, CK was an absolute piece of shit and I guarantee he still shares that belief with many many other people. But the reason why they are backtracking is bc they are being forced to, by the dipshits on the right who fall apart when one of their own gets shot by the policies they support. As has been said a thousand times you can have your opinions! Kirk advocated for free speech. What is not ok is the bile and toxicity which has been demonstrated by many excited about his murder.

So no. Folk haven't had to retract their comments because free speech is one sided they've had to retract their statements because slowly but surely the penny is dropping that calling everyone a 'piece of shit' or a 'nazi' who disagrees is not ok.

Is anyone celebrating his death on this thread? It has been very tedious how many times somebody tries to discuss his views, offering legitimate criticism only to be accused of legitimising his assassination.

Exactly. I’m sure there are a few across social media who are celebrating it, which is obviously wrong. But anyone who tries to critique his views is being accused of celebrating it at this point

Charlie Kirk himself would have probably respected your view OP. He hated the concept of empathy and thought gun deaths were an unfortunate inevitability. He was a free speech advocate no matter how offensive others may find it.

Ironic that people are being reported and even fired allegedly for their own free speech regarding his death.

Erm perhaps you missed the part when OP said “karmas a bitch” and gleefully rejoiced in the ‘irony’ that he was shot dead by a gun.

Personally I think that's inappropriate, though I can understand where the sentiment comes from - don't agree with it but I do understand it. And anyone advocating free speech to the point of free platforms for abhorrent views to be aired and debated should be defending OPs right to say it wherever and however s/he wants.

I don't think however it does anything to deescalate tensions. I was reminded of Romeo and Juliet this morning. I wonder how many of our children and kin will pay the price for our not-so-ancient grudges. And who is really benefiting from us literally and metaphorically killing each other?

I will also say every single one of my 12yr old kids' friends has seen the full video of the execution. Whereas all the adults in my world have had to search for it (we need to know exactly what our kids have inadvertently seen, my daughters Chromebook is locked down tight and it still got through without searching or clicking on anything to do with CK).

I also know various adults have seen very different videos of CK previously depending on their algorithms and digital profiles. And key to this - those algorithms don't cross, ie you will have seen very different content from CK than I did, and the odds are very good that we have not mutually seen even 1 video clip.

We can argue who's telling the truth of CK til the cows come home. But be clear - we are all being fed manufactured versions of reality, seemingly with the express aim of chaos, division, violence. If you take up the "left is evil" or "right is evil" blanket belief you have already lost.
