Stinky breath partner

PeedofNeighbour · 01/09/2025 18:14

so my partners breath has always stunk but he has a great personality and he’s litterally all I’ve ever wanted apart from the breath. I’ve been avoiding kissing him (we’ve only been together 2 months) but eventually I’m gonna have to give in. I told him that if he doesn’t get his breath sorted out by the end of next month I’ll have to leave him and he got ridiculously angry for this!?? AIBU???

I have a similar problem. Unfortunately my partner’s bum smells really bad. Like it leaves a scent when he sits down. I’ve told him about it but he doesn’t seem to want to bath more than around twice a week

Tiggerwoods · 01/09/2025 19:11

I had a BF years ago with really bad breath - turned out he had an abscess under a tooth which gave off the most revolting rotting meat smell - once he'd seen a dentist and got it fixed it disappeared... Suggest he goes to see a dentist!

Arlanymor · 01/09/2025 19:12

Sounds like a trip to the dentist is in order…

bitterexwife · 01/09/2025 19:12

@PeedofNeighbour- He’s probably angry as he’s had this a lot from partners/doesn't know what to do/has tried to fix and cant.
Although his anger at you isn’t acceptable, I doubt it’s aimed at you. Unless he goes to a GP, dentist and hygienist, would be end of the month over for me too. I’d worry it’s an infection and I’d ’catch’ it and start smelling too!

@RealBlueQuail- I just couldn’t get past that at all. I’m honestly shocked. Would he ‘go down’ on you if you didn’t shower for four days? I’d hope not!

I am honestly finding this post hard to believe

buffytheslayer · 01/09/2025 19:29

You don’t have to give in. He has a choice to try and sort it, or you leave

Like dog anal glands? Maybe some moist toilet tissue would help?

Wtf! Like seriously is there anything women won’t put up with just to have a man? I mean I hope this is sarcasm or mocking but if not then please up your standards, you must be mortified by this disgusting specimen

PashaMinaMio · 01/09/2025 19:57

Look up gingivitis. It’s a gum disease. Makes your breath smell foul. Needs treatment.

He's not your partner after 2 months he's a guy you're dating and if he's got disgusting breath and you don't want to kiss him, AND he's defensive and angry when you bring it up how can he possibly be everything you want in a partner?!

Yep. A dentist can fix this really quickly. I feel bad for you OP, surely your DP should just make an appt.

Sharealike · 01/09/2025 20:05

Does he actually clean his teeth?

(I am ignoring the smelly bum post)

It looks like everyone is, OP included!

Icanttakethisanymore · 02/09/2025 13:30

I would imagine that some people get angry when they are embarrassed... have you bought it up before? How did you phrase it when you spoke to him about it? Obviously you are not unreasonable to expect decent oral hygiene but there are ways to deliver a sensitive message (given you ideally want to remain in a relationship with this guy).

isolate34 · 02/09/2025 14:00

He needs to go to a hygienist. A good clean will likely help the issue a lot and keeping up with good oral daily cleaning. You have to tell him if you want this relationship to go anywhere. I'd ask chat gpt for a sample message and text it to him if you don't feel able to talk in person

Ugh, why would you be with a man who goes days without a wash? that's disgusting!

Newname25 · 02/09/2025 14:03

Would it be tonsil stones?

Why are you with this person

MyLimeGuide · 02/09/2025 14:04

He needs to floss!

Lmnop22 · 02/09/2025 14:07

I’m sensitive about teeth and saliva and breath so maybe it’s just me but I just could NOT deal with this. If you’re actually avoiding kissing this man two months in over a hygiene issue, maybe you need to just throw this one back. If it was a new issue in an established partner that’s one thing but this is something else.

i'm cracking up

GoldDuster · 02/09/2025 14:07

He's not your perfect partner, he's a man you've known for eight weeks but won't kiss because his breath is too offensive.

Get it straight.

nomas · 02/09/2025 14:08

Yuk. Please don't kiss him. What is his issue? Does he not brush twice a day? Does he floss? Does he not go to the dentist hygienist twice a year?

If he won't do these things to be a non stinky boyfriend, then he can fuck off back to halitosis land.

And he's not a partner, he's a boyfriend! Boyfriends can be easily chucked.
