So I totally believe DH doesn't feel great. He's got a cold, doesn't feel great.

But, if you're sick, go to bed.

If you're well enough to stay up, to watch telly, to game, to eat heartily, you probably don't need to cough performatively every five minutes, and wrap yourself up in a dressing gown and shuffle and limp around the house. Go to bed!

I totally know I'm being unreasonable, but if you're sick, really sick, you go to bed, no?

Why be confined to bed and be bored? What’s the problem if he wants to move about a bit, watch tv and eat? It’s taking his mind off feeling unwell. You don’t sound very nice OP.

kimbear87 · 28/08/2025 22:05

Lying in bed in bed all day because you have a cold is a bit much I’d say.

Purplenotes · 28/08/2025 22:10

You can feel ill and not need to be in bed!

I dont disagree, I'd just crack on with a cold. But if you're so very sick you can't move without sighs, groans, coughing and sad faces, you need to be in bed , surely?

No, because you’re bored, with nothing much to distract you from feeling ill. It can make you feel worse. Just leave him be. If he wanted to be in bed - he’d be there already. You can’t dictate to a grown adult how they manage an illness.

Being unwell isn’t a competition and you have no idea how he actually feels. You’d crack on with a cold, good for you, here’s your medal 🥇 People manage it in their own ways. You do you.

No, there's no rule that you have to recover from an illness in bed, unless it's the kind where you literally have to sleep. You just have to rest, so it doesn't matter whether you're in bed or on the sofa. And you still wake up at the usual times so you still have to occupy yourself when you're not asleep. Watching TV and gaming sound like the perfect ways.

Also, feed a cold, starve a fever! You still have to eat when you're ill.

My ex would go to bed but he would MOAN (not complaining, actual moaning) really loudly for hours. The kids and I had usually had the virus already, or still had it and it was a bit of a headache and coughing etc but nothing terrible. It was hard not to laugh.

swingingbytheseat · 28/08/2025 22:28

oh no, not the dressing gown of doom! Is the poor thing on his deathbed?

WhatMe123 · 28/08/2025 22:28

Oh op it's the shuffling in the dressing gown that does it for me and the little whimpers they do every time they cough 😬😬😂😂I feel for you. Maybe you should go to bed instead 😂😂

Waiting for the NHS to recommend TV and gaming as good recovery methods! Can you imagine the sicknote: not fit for work, fit for TV watching and gaming...

Take no notice of all the people that think you're evil OP - I fully sympathise, I want to scream when mine gets ill, he's a proper drama queen and gets right on my tits. Solidarity 🤜🏻

So I presume when you’re unwell you confine yourself to bed OP, staring at the four walls?

If you find yourself incapable of just cracking on, obviously.

Oh I love a good Dressing Gown of Doom thread.

Watching TV and gaming doesn't require mental or physical exertion. That shouldn't need to be spelled out.

If I'm too sick to be functional, I go to bed, yes. Is that unusual? Its the default in my world...

Rest is helpful sometimes, and other times it is best to work out. It depends on what troubles you.

Dressing gown has been on, but discarded in a~performative~ coughing fit, because hes too warm.

I imagine a man with a "smallpinecone" might not have the best intentions on this site.
