So I totally believe DH doesn't feel great. He's got a cold, doesn't feel great.

But, if you're sick, go to bed.

If you're well enough to stay up, to watch telly, to game, to eat heartily, you probably don't need to cough performatively every five minutes, and wrap yourself up in a dressing gown and shuffle and limp around the house. Go to bed!

I totally know I'm being unreasonable, but if you're sick, really sick, you go to bed, no?

Watching TV and gaming doesn't require mental or physical exertion. That shouldn't need to be spelled out.

Really? You should tell the teenagers then because they (and my ex husband) bounce up and down shouting at their games its the most exercise they get outside of slouching

Honestly i hate it when sickness becomes a performance when I was married I was unwell and I have graves disease so they won't let me have sudafed or proper cough medicine the pharmacist doesn't even reccomend strepsils for me i get paracetamol and glycerin honey and lemon that's it anyway my ex and I had a cold it hits me quite hard (usually does I'm used to it) he took to his bed im still up and about and he calls me to ask for something I started coughing so I didn't hear him and I couldn't stop coughing he comes storming downstairs saying ive made my point i can stop now except I actually couldn't i was struggling to catch my breath he is yelling at me to stop it my middle child is trying to pat my back my youngest starts wailing and in walks my teenager who briskly slaps me hard on my back dislodged what was stuck so I could breathe hands over a comforter to the youngest and gives ex such a look of disgust he started in again saying I was making a fuss over nothing and clearly I was fine where was his drink he was ill clearly because he was in bed! The following day he got his mom to take him to the Dr's who told him he had a cold

He went back to bed

@smallpinecone are you perchance a man??

Given I had stage 4 breast cancer last year, I’d say not.

Oh I love a good Dressing Gown of Doom thread.
Grin

Oh god, mine does the tracksuit pants and hoodie with the hoodie over his head, lying in bed with the blankets up to his chin shivering! 🤣

I overheard him on a work call last week saying he doesn’t get any sympathy from his wife. They laughed and told him he wouldn’t get any sympathy from them either. He was clearly talking to the wrong audience (female). I appreciated their solidarity with me. 🤣

I do hate the man flu. Even when I get the exact same cold/flu at the same time, he gets it 10x worse than I do (apparently). It’s become quite the running joke in our house.

That’s a strange way to answer. And men can get breast cancer too.

I imagine a man with a "smallpinecone" might not have the best intentions on this site.

Dying

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So I presume when you’re unwell you confine yourself to bed OP, staring at the four walls?

If you find yourself incapable of just cracking on, obviously.

This.

lazyarse123 · 29/08/2025 14:24

It's not really the watching tv it's the performative carrying on. You're supposed to show sympathy for every moan and groan. Tbh my dh doesn't really do it he's more the competitive illness type. If I've got a headache or stomach ache he usually says "I haven't been feeling too well today" , I have been known to shout that at the moment I'm only bothered about how I feel.

TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne · 29/08/2025 14:32

OMG there are some cheerless buggers on this thread.
😬

@TheBroonOneAndTheWhiteOne
I was thinking that, man flu is usually unanimously funny

gamerchick · 29/08/2025 22:06

My husband won't perform now since I asked him to do the little cough with sticky out tongue, after he did the little weak voice.

go to bed if you're that ill.
