This appears to have started today. Open a thread; after a minute or so a little advert pops out in the bottom right corner of my screen.

Irritating beyond words 😡

I don't use the app so it may well be a website-only affliction.

I’m using the mobile website. I keep getting an ad that covers half the pages, each side of the screen, and then comes up from the bottom as well. Beyond irritating.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 23/08/2025 00:07

Yes!!!

I’ve had this too. It’s really spoiling my mn experience.

it remind me of those websites you go to that have so many distracting ads it becomes unusable. I just click off those sites so i hope mn is not going the same way.

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 23/08/2025 00:41

And there was no cross that time to get rid of it

GlomOfNit · 23/08/2025 00:42

Yup. I only just noticed them a few minutes ago and already have had to click 4 off. Hmm MN trying to bully us into stumping up for Premium again.

IPM · 23/08/2025 00:47

Premium is only 3 quid so I eventually gave in and got it.

See I hate being forced into this, I’d rather use a different site (which I know is my choice and mumsnet isn’t exactly going to be sad to lose me or anything) I’ve been on here 14 years and it’s the first time I’m genuinely not able to use the site because it’s become too annoying!

Pinepeak2434 · 23/08/2025 01:02

I don’t use the app. I have a large video ad covering the top of the screen and then various scattered between posts. It’s annoying and puts me off viewing the site.

Missingmarbles1 · 23/08/2025 01:06

Someone recommended DuckDuckGo to me. Ad and pop up free. It's great!

MerylSqueak · 23/08/2025 01:06

But when will advertisers realise that making you feel annoyed at them because you can't do the thing you were doing because of them isn't good advertising?

FGSWhatNow · 23/08/2025 01:12

I keep getting the floating ads appearing at the top - some dog floating past on a boat usually. Coupled with the massive in-thread ads that take up most of the screen, it's a great viewing experience at the moment Hmm

Website owners too.
It keeps coming back no matter how often I tell it to fuck the fuck off.

Exactly! I won’t use the site and I won’t buy the product

thus cow n gate ad has popped on every second. Ridiculous.

BaskervilleOldFace · 23/08/2025 03:26

I refuse to use any website with pop-up ads, video ads, ads that obscure the text, flashing ads or pop-up videos. The answer is to install a good adblocker, or even better
an adblocking browser.

araiwa · 23/08/2025 03:29

Enshitificatation in action

clotheslinefiasco · 23/08/2025 05:11

Use the duckduckgo browser, it blocks the ads and trackers.

It also tells you how many trackers it's blocked on each site. On mumsnet over 20,000.

Bloatstoat · 23/08/2025 07:23

YANBU OP.

It's driving me mad.

Londonnight · 23/08/2025 07:48

It drives me mad too!! I have tried using ad blockers, but then I can't access MN or some other sites, so have to disable the ad blocker.

LastKnownSurvivor · 23/08/2025 08:00

Yes! I actually had a dream about it last night, it's so annoying.

RubyFlewToo · 23/08/2025 08:05

I just used the DuckDuckGo browser but, after a happy moment when I thought it was working, then the drop down advert dropped down over the top of my screen again 😢

WaltzingWaters · 23/08/2025 08:59

Yes. I wouldn't mind too much if you clicked off once and that was it. But it’s constant. I think it’ll lose them a lot of members. If this is long term I’ll certainly stop using through frustration!

NormasArse · 23/08/2025 09:00

This is why I subscribe to premium!

Snackpocket · 23/08/2025 09:11

The adverts on this website are ridiculous. The worst by far on any site I use, half the time I get issues with pages freezing while they load.

mum2jakie · 23/08/2025 09:20

Very annoying. In fact, it's encouraged me to turn off and do something less boring instead...

hellswelshy · 23/08/2025 09:34

Yep same here. V annoying!!
