This appears to have started today. Open a thread; after a minute or so a little advert pops out in the bottom right corner of my screen.

Irritating beyond words 😡

I don't use the app so it may well be a website-only affliction.

I couldn't tell you what it is they're trying to beat me around the head with down there, so it isn't even doing its cynical money-grabbing job.

Just use a pop up blocker and problem solved. I've been using one for years and actually forgot pop ups existed until I read your post.

noctilucentcloud · 23/08/2025 10:20

Yup it's super annoying.

This is why I subscribe to premium!

Exactly. No good complaining, when you refuse to subscribe.

I’m using the mobile website. I keep getting an ad that covers half the pages, each side of the screen, and then comes up from the bottom as well. Beyond irritating.

This is the same ad that I’ve been getting for weeks. I’ve stopped using the site as much as it’s so intrusive.

Nonsense. We shouldn't have to subscribe just to get a tolerable user experience. Making your website do annoying things is idiotic, because if site traffic goes down, so does advertising revenue. It's not as if it isn't well-known by now what kind of things irritate website users and this is near the top of that list.

Your choice. I made mine.

I don't imagine for a second that site traffic is going down though, hence their refusal to do something about it.

HQ know how unpopular and stressful the ads are for the majority of its users.

I decided that after 14 years it was either time to deregister my account or pay £3 per month.

I chose the latter because I want to stay on MN.

O I just experienced this and made a post about it...sorry I didn't see yours! It really distracting isn't it! 😡

£3 a month? I assumed it was a one off charge. I’m not that bothered about Mumsnet. I’ll just find something else to read.

NormasArse · 29/08/2025 21:43

There are other benefits besides the lack of ads.
