To ask if anyone else has received a donation request PM from cheesecakemunc?

Hi all,

I’ve just received a PM from a user called Cheesecakemunc in which they say they are widowed and they ask for money to help buy their daughter’s birthday present.

Has anyone else had a message from this user or similarly worded messages from others?

I’ve emailed MNHQ to report the message and have replied to the user saying there are sources of financial support out there if necessary (Citizens Advice etc).

Also got called a ‘Karen’ for challenging the donation request. Thanks @Cheesecakemunc!

I would not have even replied, just some scammer, just delete and move on

I agree about deleting the message and forgetting about it, but I wanted to make it public to warn anyone who might get taken in and might actually donate money.

I had one too. By the time I saw I had a private message just now, the content had already been deleted by Mumsnet. I was intrigued so searched the user name and came across this. Thanks for flagging 👍🏻

Just a scammer trying it on.

I didn’t even know you could send/receive messages on here?! on the app. ?

TaupeMember · 14/08/2025 14:34

That's hilarious- such a well written begging post, followed swiftly by that thuggish ok karen remark

What a plonker!

Do people really fall for these things

Luckily, I don’t think scams are a common thing on here, but it makes me angry to think of the money that Cheesecakemc could have potentially made from posters donating via that PM.

More fool them tbh.

Cheeky bastard!

ClunkyPigeon · 14/08/2025 15:14

Left it a bit late for poor old Rose if her birthday is tomorrow, Emily. Luckily she’s fictional so she shouldn’t suffer too much.

Well I think they do sometimes, my local Facebook page has a similar thing regularly. Sadly kindness gets taken advantage of.

🤣 Given that it's pure fantasy, Emily should climb the Faraway Tree to the land of Take What You Want and get Rose a present that way.

Also got a dm, was overexcited, I hardly ever get messages on here!

Wow - did you miss the day they handed out empathy?

I got a (now deleted) message from them too

No but if people are foolish enough to give money to random strangers on line I have no sympathy for them.

chunkybear · 14/08/2025 18:16

Bloody CF scammers no doubt - ignore the comments, scumbag springs to mind about such people!

Yeah they will have probably targeted the ones they see as ‘empathetic’.

Posters who give blindly to every strange beggar on the internet actually anger me a bit more.

And they worry me too if they're parents, as if they're that naïve, I fail to see how they can teach their kids about internet safety.

Goody2ShoesAndTheFilthyBeast · 15/08/2025 12:09

If thats their real phone number up there they've left themselves wide open to being signed up to all sorts of unsavory things
