Does this message mean my iPhone has called emergency services? Stressed!

The siren noise happened when I was clutching my phone after it fell between the seat and door in the car. It had the siren noise for around a second then I panicked and pressed cancel.

Since then I’ve had this notification on my phone …

Does this message mean my iPhone has called emergency services? Stressed!

Treeakle · 07/08/2025 00:12

@FlamingoFloss thanks, did you also get this notification?!

My husbands phone has been doing this on and off over the last couple of weeks. Don't worry about it, it's no doubt a glitch that'll be patched in the next update.

OakAshRowan · 07/08/2025 07:38

The call was initiated but you cancelled it. Nothing to be stressed about.

@RoseAlone It's not a glitch. iPhones are designed to do this. Your husband needs to stop holding down those buttons and it will stop happening.

Treeakle · 07/08/2025 08:39

@OakAshRowan yes but does that mean emergency services were contacted and are aware of the contact and cancellation?

Well it's now 8 hours later, what's your concern?

I doubt it if the call never connected but I'm not sure. My daughter once managed to called emergency services while watching a video on my phone - she was just trying to turn the volume up. I was cooking dinner and she brought the phone to me confused because there was someone asking her questions. I apologised for the mistake and confirmed we were all fine and that was that. It was about 5 years ago now and there was never any follow up. I really wouldn't worry about it.

This happened to us a couple of weeks ago. DH phone sent this announcement at 4.30am when he was sound asleep and did ring 999. He woke to the 999 operator asking which service he required. It also kept sending me texts giving me his position which were all a couple of miles away - he was in bed next to me. All very weird.

SydneyCarton · 07/08/2025 09:47

@OakAshRowan My daughter managed to call 999 on the landline phone when she was a toddler; she just picked it up and started pressing the buttons and was delighted when someone answered! I was in another room and didn’t realise what was happening until she wandered into the kitchen telling the operator that Mummy was asleep in the bath Shock I think I was about two minutes away from having the Met break down the front door.

I’ve also accidentally set off the emergency services alert from my Apple Watch and got a callback asking if I was okay.

ErrolTheDragon · 07/08/2025 09:55

I’m sure it happens a lot and if you momentarily get through and cancel try assume it’s a mistake.

Funnywonder · 07/08/2025 10:25

I have done this a couple of times and cancelled the call quickly, so no emergency services arrived at my door or interacted with me in any way.

Much worse has been my earbuds calling random people while I’m wearing them in bed at night. I have dialled the local Chinese takeaway, my teenage son’s mate and my SIL, to name a few. I usually detect that something unusual is happening and scramble to cancel the call. I do worry though that they might answer and hear me snoring like a tractor🤣

@Idontjetwashthefucker theres not been a call back but I just feel anxious if I haven’t clarified it was a mistake

@annonymousse by announcement do you mean you got the same notification in my screenshot/image?

It alarmed which woke him up and then he noticed it was making a call. But same message about a fall etc

Treeakle · 07/08/2025 20:44

Still worrying about this! I can’t see any answer online as to whether it means it actually connects to emergency services

Yes probably. I accidentally activated this once and cancelled it. Got a call back straight away from 999.

mynameiscalypso · 07/08/2025 20:48

Why are you worried about it? In a nice way! I’ve done this plenty of times and never think anything of it. I imagine it happens thousands of times a day.

@mynameiscalypso i get really anxious speaking to somewhere like that, same with a government body etc. Just how my anxiety comes out, I hate not actually knowing if it’s connected or not!

You seem overly anxious about this OP - you quickly cancelled the call. What are you worried about?

@TreeakleCan you look in your call log and see if it is recorded/lasted for any length of time?
