To feel I’m Missing Out By Not Having Netflix?

CurlersShirley · 18/07/2025 18:43

There were discussions recently in social media about certain high profile series recently like Adolescence’ and I couldn’t join in cos I don’t have Netflix.

Another thread’s been started on here this afternoon about a Netflix series which from the OP’s description I must say sounds good. AIBU to feel I’m missing out for not having Netflix?

OP posts:

Why would you be unreasonable? People watch all sorts these days.

Mingenious · 18/07/2025 18:47

So get it then? There’s lots on it to watch.

We cycle through steaming services, I’ve just cancelled Netflix as we’ve watched everything we want and have reinstated Apple TV. Theres loads to choose from and you haven’t got to have them all at once - one at a time is plenty.

CozyCoupe · 18/07/2025 18:47

If you're bothered, then just subscribe to it? The basic subscription is 4.99 pm.

MyUmberSeal · 18/07/2025 18:47

If you feel you’re missing out, then subscribe to Netflix and fill your boots.

Errolwasahero · 18/07/2025 18:47

We have it, just really for drive to survive as we’re motorsport nuts. We don’t watch much else on it, but find just enough to make it feel worthwhile; I don’t tend to bother with a lot of the things that everyone else seems to like, though!

sidechick · 18/07/2025 18:49

Why don’t you do a free trial and find out?

there’s so many streaming platforms these days though! I have Netflix but there have been other series and programmes I’ve seen discussed from other services I don’t have,

steff13 · 18/07/2025 18:52

We have it and we actually get it for free as part of our cell phone plan. But we don't watch it all that often. There's no need to miss out though just subscribe to it.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 18/07/2025 19:09

Just pay the £5 to have Netflix for a month and try it

Itsnottheheatitsthehumidity · 18/07/2025 19:20

I want Starz for Outlander, and Apple TV for Ted Lasso and the Buccaneers, but I can’t afford them right now. If you’ve never had Netflix ever there’s plenty to see, but once you’ve gone through the quality stuff you find there’s a LOT of guff too. The waiting between old and new series can be torturous as well.

KrisAkabusi · 18/07/2025 19:29

If you feel like you're missing out, then get Netflix. If you don't, then carry on. Why does it matter what we think?

SunflowerLife · 18/07/2025 19:32

Get it if you want it. My husband pays ours through his phone contract. It's about £4 a month I think.

ArcticBells · 18/07/2025 19:45

I had Netflix for the whole of two weeks before cancelling. I didn’t even wait for the end of the month.

AtBeaverGoat · 18/07/2025 19:48

a few headline programs and lots of old rubbish on Netflix, being able to watch on a device is handy

Ivy888 · 18/07/2025 19:51

Honestly, there are so many streaming providers nowadays, it’s impossible to really keep up with conversations about movies /series. It’s not like it was in the past, when one would chat about whatever was on tv the night before. Everyone is watching something else these days, and having Netflix does not guarantee you would be able to join in with the chat (you might still be saying “oh I havn’t seen that”, just like you would without Netflix).
but op, is there a financial reason you don’t have Netflix? It’s not very expensive, if you’re feeling left out, you could always just try it for a month?

Cantabulous · 18/07/2025 19:55

i miss it since my DD moved out and took her subscription with her, just because I can’t watch Friends whenever I like anymore. Otherwise I’m indifferent. I hate American voices and I can live without things like Adolescence st home - anything that’s really, really good like that I’ll go to a friend’s to watch

There is no better reason to have friends than to sponge off them, after all

Dangermoo · 18/07/2025 20:41

I only have it because I like to have a choice of different viewing. It's well worth the money.

ThreePointOneFourOneFiveNine · 18/07/2025 21:00

Only one way to find out…

ldgso · 18/07/2025 21:03

Yes, you are missing out. I love Netflix. Definitely sign up.

Nchangeo · 18/07/2025 21:08

Yes you are. Currently enjoying the train wreck series. Poop boat was epic 😱

MariLlwyd · 18/07/2025 21:15

Some dross of course, but stuff like Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul and the Scandi Noir classics are sublime.

SleeplessInsomniac · 18/07/2025 21:30

I've always cycled through the various subscription services. So, Amazon prime Oct to December as I'm buying Christmas presents then anyway. Netflix from just before Christmas to January /February and I catch up on anything I've missed during the year as they tend to be available for ages after release. Never have more than 1 service at a time, and sometimes none at all. At the moment we have none. DD looking forward to the new series of Wednesday and DS and I are both looking forward to Stranger Things so ill probably subscribe when they are released.

Okiedokie123 · 18/07/2025 22:15

So....... subscribe to Netflix. If you want to.
I never have. Sometimes it bothers me cos there is a show I fancy watching (usually cos everyone else wont shut up about it lol) but then a week later the conversation has moved on and so have I. I havent got a tv licence either even further limiting my choices but again Im rarely bothered. I watch other stuff instead.

Weekmindedfool · 18/07/2025 22:17

Gosh, how might you solve this conundrum?

nomas · 18/07/2025 22:22

Adolescence was over hyped. You didn’t miss much.
