How many times a week do you have meat?

Obviously not talking about vegetarians here.
Im trying to cut down on the amount of meat we eat and as a result I’m having to really learn how to cook! I’m enjoying it - but DH is practically carnivorous so he’s already asking when the next meat meal will be coming.

im thinking of keeping meat to Friday, Saturday and Sunday - veggie rest of the week. Am I being mean to DH?

About 3 days pw. We make a conscious effort to eat only higher welfare meat and to not eat meat every day.

gamerchick · 16/07/2025 20:52

Daily.

It doesn't matter how often we eat meat though OP.

If you do the cooking then you set the menu. There's nothing wrong with your bloke taking his turn.

ConcernedOfClapham · 16/07/2025 20:53

Surely he can eat as much meat as he likes, if he cooks it?

this is another Neanderthal who expects you to be slaving away in the kitchen and his dinner on the table at a certain hour or heaven help him, isn’t it?

IsThisLifeNow · 16/07/2025 20:53

About 12-14?

Summerhillsquare · 16/07/2025 20:55

Probably 4 or 5 instances overall, plus some oily fish.

This 'man must eat manly meat ug' stuff is so tiresome. They actually think vegetables are effeminate in some way, bonkers.

aGirlLikeJesamine · 16/07/2025 20:55

trying to cut down,
we have a vegetarian or should I say pescatarian, in the household so easier to just cook one meal.

notacooldad · 16/07/2025 20:56

Im veggie but the rest of the family aren't.
When i cook they have a veggie meal. If dh or ( adult) kids cook they usually have meat and cook me a veggie version.

ThatsABitExcessive · 16/07/2025 20:59

Disclaimer!! DH works full time, I’m at home all day - hence why I cook.

DH tends to cook on a weekend

Over the 21 meals, I pretty much never have meat at breakfast, probably half of my lunches and half of my dinners then contain meat or fish.

Stormroses · 16/07/2025 21:02

Three times a week. Or two if we have fish.

You could do meat on Wednesday, Friday then a roast on Sunday so he has some leftovers for Monday and Tuesday if he really wants.

maddiemookins16mum · 16/07/2025 21:03

5 out of 7 evening meals and probably 4 lunches. We don’t eat meat on a Friday and Mondays are Meat free Mondays.

quicklywick · 16/07/2025 21:04

About twice a week but iv never been a big meat eater I would easily be able to become a vegetarian if it wasnt for the smell of bacon 😋

Namechanged1001 · 16/07/2025 21:06

Every lunch and every main meal. Our meals centre round what meat we are going to eat that night and lunches always involve protein in meat form. I eat low carbs though so it's with veg/salad/ pulses. I dont understand the whole 'not eating meat' bit tbh. As long as it's fairly leans it is contributing to our health. We dont do fish although if we liked it would be happy to incorporate it more.

nam3c4ang3 · 16/07/2025 21:07

i think we have about 2 days we have a fish day - the rest are meat.

Mrsttcno1 · 16/07/2025 21:08

Every evening meal, for my husband every lunch, for me & my daughter probably 60% of lunches.

BreakingBroken · 16/07/2025 21:08

We’ve significantly cut back on the quantity. Not necessarily times per week. 1/2 a chicken breast per person or a spag bolognaise stretched from serving 4 to serving 6.
theoretically I could say I’ve had 3 meals that contained meat; 1/4 cup baked beans with breakfast, one slice of ham in my lunch grilled cheese, and planning on 1/2 chicken breast in tonight’s salad BUT the amount of ham in the baked beans is minuscule and the lunch ham is “shaved” paper thin.

cinquanta · 16/07/2025 21:08

It probably averages one meal a day.

PervyMuskrat · 16/07/2025 21:08

10-14 times most likely. I really do like meat though and am generally a fussy eater, with a side of IBS, which restricts the amount of pulses/cheese/eggs I can tolerate

Mikart · 16/07/2025 21:11

Maybe once. I never buy red meat..

lazyarse123 · 16/07/2025 21:12

Every day unless it's fish and chip day. We like meat and have no intention of apologising for it.

Nobody is asking you to apologise 😂

Every day, and often 2-3 times a day.

caringcarer · 16/07/2025 21:13

Everyday for dinner and often for lunch too. I do have an occasional cheese omelette. DH is a vegetarian and he cooks his own meals mostly.

FancyCatSlave · 16/07/2025 21:13

Probably about 4 on average, I have a fair
amount of fish. Probably veggie only 1-2 at
most and some of that is accidental.

I am making an effort to eat less meat though than I used to.

Fearfulsaints · 16/07/2025 21:14

6 times. Fish on a Friday.
