Is Sunday a school night?

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/07/2025 18:28

There’s a hotly contested issue on another thread. I think Sunday is a school night because school is the next day, meaning early to bed, ready. But some people are saying that a school night is when you’ve been at school, so Friday but not Sunday. They are wrong. AIBU?

Yes! I would say so. Friday and Saturday are not a school night.

Octonaut4Life · 13/07/2025 18:30

You are correct, school nights are when you have to be up for school the next morning.

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 13/07/2025 18:30

I'm a teacher and Sunday is definitely a school night for me.

Ninja2 · 13/07/2025 18:30

Yes it’s a school night.

Gavel.

AbzMoz · 13/07/2025 18:30

Of course Sunday is a school night. Why else would you get the Sunday scaries?

Iloveacurry · 13/07/2025 18:30

Sunday is definitely a school night!

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/07/2025 18:31

So glad. I thought I was going bonkers.

I was a teacher and Sunday is definitely a school night.

TheEndlessNight · 13/07/2025 18:31

Sundays definitely a school night.

CrustyBread1977 · 13/07/2025 18:31

Absolutely, it’s a night when you have school the next day. So you shouldn’t be out on the randan because it’s a school night and you have to get up and go to school in the morning.

Brokenforsummer · 13/07/2025 18:32

Yes, it’s a night you need to be organised for the next day and make sure you get to bed at decent time.

TheFinePrintess · 13/07/2025 18:33

You are correct

HappyCrochetHooker · 13/07/2025 18:34

100%. Sunday - school night because you have to get up for school, Friday - not school night because you don’t have to get up the next day.

TheHateIsNotGood · 13/07/2025 18:34

Sunday is a school night if there's school the following Monday.

BakewellGin1 · 13/07/2025 18:35

Spot on

I heard, ‘out on the randan’ in my granny’s voice! Love that expression.

Yes agree it's a school night.

Sassybooklover · 13/07/2025 18:37

To me, Sunday is a 'school night', as my son has school tomorrow, and therefore it's earlier to bed.

ExpertArchFormat · 13/07/2025 18:37

Yanbu. School nights are Sunday to Thursday - the days when you don't over-do it as you have to be functional next day. Non-school-nights are Friday and Saturday when it's ok to party on down because it's ok to be exhausted next day.

Anotherhotone · 13/07/2025 18:37

I saw that thread and my first thought was, Sunday is not a school night. I am a teacher!

StressedQueen · 13/07/2025 18:41

Definitely

Dramatic · 13/07/2025 18:42

Sunday is definitely a school night. To me a school night is when you need to be in bed on time and ready for the following day so Friday is a weekend night.

Ah the first (I think) dissenting voice.

Can you give your reasoning please? "Not on a school night" is short hand for "No you can't go out because you've got school tomorrow", surely?

MyCyanReader · 13/07/2025 18:49

Of course it's a school night.

Teacher:
school night = lesson prep to do!!
Not school night = wine!
