To not tip the dominoes delivery driver?!

Phonicshaskilledmeoff · 10/07/2025 18:46

They are soooo expensive. I’m assuming they are a big company so delivery drivers must get paid an hourly rate rather than delivery? But maybe I’m wrong?

should I be tipping? If so how much?!

Ill be honest the tip would tip me over the edge in terms of ridiculous prices and I’d just get pizza elsewhere.

I normally have to pay for delivery on top so I don’t give any extra.

youreactinglikeafunmum · 10/07/2025 18:55

I only tip on Xmas eve tbh

LasVegass · 10/07/2025 18:58

I was in Las Vegas recently where you’d be encouraged on the app to tip DoorDash deliveries to get them quicker. Mind you, they’d still forget the sauces (paid for), maybe we didn’t tip enough.

Janeeyrre · 10/07/2025 19:03

Dominoes always seems to be on offer at my local one, half price?

Spypatrol · 10/07/2025 19:10

I do out of habit but no more than around £2. I do wonder if it's more insulting than thankful in this climate though

marshmallowfinder · 10/07/2025 19:14

No I don't. I pay for delivery so that's it.

Troubleclef · 10/07/2025 19:17

I’m pretty sure they don’t expect it.

BrunchBarBandit · 10/07/2025 19:18

I never order dominoes when it’s full price only when there’s an offer (tbf that’s most of the time). I always tip £2-3 to the delivery person.

Ilikewinter · 10/07/2025 19:28

I hardly order now since they massively ramped up the prices, but when I do delivery costs £2.99 (or something like that) so no? I don't tip on top of that.

FlipFlopShopInHawaii · 10/07/2025 19:37

I used to tip delivery drivers when we had to pay cash on delivery, these days everything seems to be pay online when ordering - so no, I don't tip now.

Years ago I worked with a guy, he was in a pretty well-paid finance job, who did deliveries for local chinese takeaway at the weekend - he used to make 200-300 cash every weekend from tips!

PennyAnnLane · 10/07/2025 19:37

No, I don’t tip, they charge for delivery so why do I need to tip someone to do their job that I’m paying them for?

Tekknonan · 10/07/2025 19:39

I pay the delivery guy for any takeaway I buy. The pay is lousy.

The half price is still more than it costs for the same sized pizza at an independent here, and the independents are much better! I still tip the delivery person a couple of quid though.

WhatTheHelll · 10/07/2025 19:41

I no longer tip anyone. The price of everything going up has swallowed up any tips.

Teenagerantruns · 10/07/2025 19:44

If l have change l normally tip a few pounds. But l live in a small town and know most of the kids delivering, we don't have any chain pizza places.

FutureCatMum · 10/07/2025 19:56

Absolutely not! You already pay for delivery and they’re expensive enough. Although I do use codes whenever I order.
This isn’t America.

Janeeyrre · 10/07/2025 20:03

@BedlingtonWillow ahh ok, yes I can definitely imagine independents would be better.

okydokethen · 10/07/2025 20:12

My DH recently did some delivery work for dominos (as we were getting desperate, so it was a top up from his day job).
Its minimum wage and there’s no decent mileage system, so the further you drive it doesn’t help financially.
They regularly send drivers home with minutes notice and expect them to work overtime to clear up, especially weekends without paying the extra hour.
My DH was delighted every time he got a tip, even £1 - it did make a difference if you could earn another fiver.
Seriously, these guys are broke. I would never have thought to tip delivery drivers (actually I never get delivery) but if I did I wouldn’t be embarrassed to hand over £1 as I previously thought it was too little, but they are grateful.
They employ a lot of staff on work visas from abroad and they are not treated well, minimum wage and zero hours contracts are hard going, especially if you have a family.

FlowerPower2525 · 10/07/2025 20:13

I used to when free delivery. But not now I pay £3 delivery. Plus the prices have rocketed. We used to get it regularly every 2 weeks, but not now last time was March.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 10/07/2025 20:31

DS2 works for Papa Johns. He works mostly in store on hourly rate but any deliveries are paid extra at just over a £1 per delivery regardless,of distance.
No one ever ever tips.

DemonsandMosquitoes · 10/07/2025 20:32

Should say he’s a student and would be absolutely made up to get a tip!! Minimum wage.

arcticpandas · 10/07/2025 20:35

Always tip (if there is no extra cost for delivery). 1-2£. They are working hard for minimum wage.

GreenWheat · 10/07/2025 20:38

I never tip delivery drivers. I have already paid for delivery. They should increase the delivery charge if the drivers aren't earning enough. Plus I don't have cash any more.

SunshineDeLaSoul · 10/07/2025 20:48

No we don’t either

marshmallowfinder · 11/07/2025 08:30

So do I, in a supermarket. No one tips me. Many other minimum wage jobs are not tipped. I detest this inequality and rationale. Actually, come to think of it, the delivery drivers at our supermarket are on a higher hourly rate than the shop floor workers. I hope you don't tip them?
